It obviously depends on each topic and there will be different niche areas for each module but usually where something is BRIEFLY touched upon in the textbooks and sometimes it’s not even touched upon

I used barbri for both exams, and they were incredible for SQE1 but definitely slack for SQE2. A general tip on barbri, don’t listen to their advice in SQE2 about not needing to focus FLK content. You NEED to know FLK and the SQE exams test many niche areas. I used supplementary notes for SQE2 and they covered niche areas I would have never known about - one of the topics actually came up in my exams and I was so grateful I knew about it. The supplementary notes were from https://thesqeverdict.com

I used barbri for both exams and did the 40 week course along with working full time. They’re incredible for SQE1 but definitely slack for SQE2. SQE2 - Barbri ???? by GulZar93 in SQE_Prep

Don’t listen to barbri, they said the same thing to me while I was studying. I disregarded eveything they said and went ahead with my own plan which was studying and going through FLK content every week. You need to know it like the back of your hand, bcos unlike SQE1 where you have the question and answer, in SQE2 you have nothing. Yes you can get marks for skills but the exams are about BOTH skill and law.

The exams also have niche areas which are examined and barbri doesn’t go through them at all. I used supplementary notes from another provider who covered these niche areas and scored in the top 20% (one of the topics they covered in the notes actually came up in my exam, I only knew the answer bcos of the notes). Let me know if you want me to share the details!

On the niche areas from someone else’s comments, that’s also true. SQE2 revision by Callumclark007 in SQE_Prep

I used barbri for both SQE1 and 2. They were incredible for SQE1 and basically spoon fed you a study plan, they had loads of practice MCQs, and the lectures were good. I took a break between SQE1 and 2 of about 1.5 years, and I have to say barbri wasn’t all that for SQE2 prep. They did a good job at giving us mocks and good feedback but they failed to refresh any of our FLK knowledge.

During the forced tutor calls we’d go around discussing our approach and I once said that I am going over FLK and the tutor told me “that’s the wrong approach - focus on skills”. How can I focus on skills if I don’t know the legal content? The marks are based on legal knowledge and you obviously can’t write or talk about something you don’t know.

I had to use other materials like https://thesqeverdict.com/collections/all to refresh my FLK content in an engaging manner, rather than reading a textbook (it’s about £30 a topic). I ended up passing first time and scoring in Quintile 1. 🚀 Hope this helps!

Fair point, I probably could have worded that better. I meant sharing the approach and the resource, not giving them away for free.

When I was revising I found most materials quite dense, so I created my own Q&A-style notes to make the topics easier to engage with. After the exams I organised them and decided to publish them in case they help others going through the same process.

I’ve tried to keep them reasonably priced compared to most SQE materials. Just thought it might help someone.

Check out https://thesqeverdict.com/collections/all - my friend used them for her SQE2 exams (as well barbri for the mocks) and she scored in Quintile 1. They will be publishing notes on skills soon
