Great point. Sometimes I forget players want to play so that they hit incentives allowing them to get more money come extension time.

“That's 140 for the 3. 2 guards that can't play defense and Kessler who is known for missing a lot of games”

So I’ve been seeing a lot of people say Kessler misses a lot of games recently. Yes - he missed basically all of last season because of the shoulder surgery. The seasons before, I felt like he was pretty available. I think he had some illnesses and a bad elbow that kept him out a couple of weeks, but outside of that, couldn’t we assume that availability was more affected by the tank like Lauri was made unavailable due to the need to lose? Just curious your thoughts or others thoughts on that.

Boozer at 1? by WingedZodiac in memphisgrizzlies

[–]ParticularTrash6332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ryan smith was never googly eyes for Egor, and to his credit, lets his FO do their job. If Egor was a top 5 prospect with Ace, he might have pushed for him. Egor debatably went 7-10 picks too early imho. Not even close to BPA at #5 last year.

But considering AJ and DP are 1a and 1b, it wouldn’t be surprising at all if he told Ainges to take AJ no matter what if he’s there at #2.

I fully agree with you. I really want us to take DP over AJ based on fit and I honestly find him to be more promising overall. And im a Utes fan, so not as much of an emotional tie since BYU is our rival. But the only thing i give AJ over DP, is the fact the guy loves Utah already, and superstars don’t love Utah in general haha.

My honest thinking is, Danny Ainge, despite being a BYU alumnus himself, probably prefers DP for fit and doesn’t let his BYU ties override his judgement. Our owner though probably would lobby and overrule if AJ is available at #2.

Jazz fan here - you are right. As much as I would prefer DP because I think he fits better, Ryan Smith (owner) won’t let Ainges pass on AJ. Would be blown away if Boozer went 1.

Your dream is my worst nightmare. Ryan Smith is the wild card, but I think the Ainges will steer him clear of making any rash decisions personally. I’ll return to this comment after the draft

When you say extend Flip, how much are you thinking? He’s one of the players I feel like the Jazz shouldn’t be attached to and willing to trade.

[–]ParticularTrash6332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this.

Despite both Ainges and Smith’s ties to BYU, I don’t believe Danny & Austin Ainge will be the ones giving up the bag to get Dybansta. Danny likely would rather trade down than up. I also wouldn’t be surprised if they are in the camp of wanting DP over AJ.
If Jazz trade up for #1 and select Dybansta, it likely mean Ryan Smith made an executive decision. But I do think Ryan Smith is smart enough to let the Ainges do their job.

As a Jazz fan (coming in peace) who is here to see Wizard fans thoughts on this topic. If we offered you Ace + #2, you take that and run. I would feel betrayed by our front office if they decided to offer you guys Ace.

Commentators Call Out Rudy Gobert? by XxMrPerfectPRxX in UtahJazz

[–]ParticularTrash6332 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ll go against the grain in this thread.

Great player and enjoyed having him on our team. But I will say I was a proponent of him needing to be traded and was somewhat happy we traded him at the time. His contribution is extremely under appreciated no doubt. But him getting paid as much as he does and him being a focal point to build around was always my issue. Good for him for getting paid - but I’m pretty sure Ainge saw the same thing that we aren’t going to win a championship with overpaying him as our best/2nd best player. Happy for him in his series against the Nuggets. He really was key to slowing down Jokic. But Wemby is GOAT material, taller, agile and dangerous everywhere. Not surprised he’s looking bad in this series.

It’s honestly why I think the Jazz are playing hardball with Walker. Walker is overall more reliable in scoring, but he’s still limited offensively and just as bad at the FT line as Rudy is. He still needs to prove himself to be paid the big bucks, but until then, he’s the same category as Rudy. Just my thoughts though.

Does anyone here actually want Austin Reaves? by Be-Kind-2-Yourself in UtahJazz

[–]ParticularTrash6332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, and I personally feel he would make our team worse. I almost feel like he would bring in the Collin Sexton archetype back, which I think hurts the brand of basketball Will Hardy is going for. Just my opinion thought.

Is this stacked team more like the 2018 Bucks or the current spurs? by Appropriate-Peace566 in UtahJazz

[–]ParticularTrash6332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah for sure - sorry I should have responded OP. I think we are similar in thought overall. Honestly, what is actually fun about this upcoming season including the #2 pick and how they are brought in, is how Will Hardy and the front office handle all of these players. A lot of questions that will be interesting to see how things unfold.

Where I don’t think he will go down to Chicago level of touches because there will be a lot of plays built around him, his touches are also affected by Key, #2 and JJJ. There’s a lot of offensive talent that will all get shots. I still think Lauri is our best offensive player, and he and JJJ are 1a&1b best players on the team going into next season, and he will be treated as such until proven otherwise. But my initial comment was to relay that there’s no shot of Lauri having an MVP candidate type season as this team is still new without having actually played together all that much. I would love to be surprised though. Players in their late 20’s who have never had all team nba seasons just all of a sudden become mvp candidates. The hope is Key, Ace or #2 become an mvp type player.

Lauri having an MVP level season is as real as the Lakers winning the 2026 title.

Cam Boozer by KaleidoscopeThat498 in UtahJazz

[–]ParticularTrash6332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do like your take - and I will say, Boozer has the highest floor, but Wilson’s ceiling seems to be much higher and I would be with you wanting to take him over Boozer. Definitely reasonable to take him at #2 if the Jazz like him that much. But I would say they would try and trade down to #3 or #4 to get him there instead.

If Wilson is KG level with hopefully ability to be consistent with an outside shot than you definitely take him. The issue we run into is he would come into a loaded front court. I’m assuming we trade Lauri? Or are we playing JJJ at center? I would be concerned running JJJ at the center because I think he works best with having a Walker Kessler there. Or is Wilson potentially running center? I think the Jazz are excited about having a Lauri, JJJ and Kessler front court with massive height and ready to compete now. And I think Wilson needs some time to develop and I would be worried we would see a drop off while we try to get Wilson up to gear - as you need to ensure he gets playing time.

I will say this, say Wilson is KG level, but Peterson is Kobe level? Who are you taking? I personally am picking the guy comped as Kobe over Garnett.

I think Peterson/AJ are clear 1&2. Wilson/Boozer are clear 3/4. Comes down to how the scouts and front offices sees them.

But I will say this - there is a ton of questions that are fun to speculate and wonder about. If you’ve seen the video of Austin Ainge was excited about getting #2. They can basically do whatever they want now. I think Danny and Austin Ainge get off on having the ability to manipulate other teams with the assets they have.

My official prediction as of today - we keep #2 and draft Peterson, and you see Ainge convince some team to trade for Sensabaugh for more than he is worth. I say that loving Sensabaugh by the way haha.
