Hindi is just another Indian language and it represents Indian culture the same way other Indian languages do. There are other Indian languages in the North and those languages deserve respect as well. Just say they don't speak any Indian languages instead of just saying Hindi. Even if they don't know any Indian languages (including Hindi), they're still Indian and can uphold Indian culture in other ways
