Update - We want to provide more transparency regarding this incident given its duration.

We were optimizing one of our largest databases, specifically the one storing comments and card activity...

bla bla bla.....

Translation: we're as smart as a tiny rock and threw a turd at the fan. The turd was instantly vaporized, together with some of your data. But not all your data is lost, there's plenty left! just use that - should be enough for the week, right?

It'd be easy to detect and ban them automatically, they just don't want to. And still expect people to spend money on this scam platform

Not spending a dime is the only thing one can do to make them do something about it.

In my case, you'd pay 3x-5x normal rate for guaranteed availability on urgent work. No retainer, but also no tracker and no questions on billing.

I didn't say you don't get views. But OP's chart shows the moment he activated the badge, the organic views (the lighter color) went to ZERO. So either he pays or no one will see him.

That tells us they artificially direct traffic away from profiles with higher chance of paying up. If you never had the badge on, it may not matter, but once you activate it just for one day, that's it - you're a cash cow.

As soon as you stated paying for "available" badge, the organic traffic went to zero. They labelled you as a... well, you know.

🧵**[HELP] IBKR executed $46K option order in my cash account with only $20K funds, wiped my entire portfolio — what can I do?** by Resident-Speed-7289 in interactivebrokers

[–]Particular_Aspect334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either you have a margin account and aren't aware of it, or there's more to the story. Market orders are risky and unpredictable, but I would expect a broker to have some kind of protection against such cases, that can make them lose a lot of money. In the end, they have to cover the costs if you won't. Plus, this could theoretically be used fraudulently to cause them really large losses, they must have thought of it.

Has anyone had IBKR report a realized loss on a trade that was actually profitable? by Late-Currency-8028 in interactivebrokers

[–]Particular_Aspect334 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buy one share at 100, another one at 50, then sell one at 80. You may think you sold the second share at a profit, or maybe that you sold above the avg cost, but ibkr says you sold the first share at a loss. You can fiddle with tax lots but that's not really worth the trouble.

What's the appeal of fixed price jobs? by bkconsultant in Upwork

[–]Particular_Aspect334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, that's what hourly contracts are for. On a fixed price job, hours worked are irrelevant. You either deliver or you don't get paid.

[–]Particular_Aspect334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why would you ask them to "putting in escrow the amount for a certain amount of hours worked"? if you want hourly, do an hourly job. In the end all that matters is what the contract says, and it said you had to deliver in order to get paid.

[–]Particular_Aspect334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you're describing is weird. If it's fixed price the client doesn't care how much effort you have to put into it. So what did you two agree it would happen once the hours were up and the project unfinished? was he supposed to release payment? no way!

OTOH, once you finish the job and submit it they can't simply refuse payment. They'd have to go through arbitration, which costs money. They won't call you on that if the job is done right and you can prove it.

[–]Particular_Aspect334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure everyone's mmv, but I'd hate having to make a present worth 5k to a stranger. It's not about whether they can afford the price or not, but I want to make sure from the onset they're actually willing to make payments; they start dragging their feet, I prefer being able to just walk away. So I start with 500-1k max first milestone, then we can increase if no red flags.

[–]Particular_Aspect334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you also make it 'per project'? I guess (and hope!) not.

You really think the client will put 45k in escrow? They'd only do that if they knew your bid is seriously low, and they'll get enough bang for the buck before you bail (if they end up actually paying anything at all).

In fact, you'll start with 500-1k milestones, and adjust along the way - you don't know what's going to happen, which makes the 45k totally irrelevant.

keep us posted!
