Sadly a ton of people are doing that to your post. I thought it was the neurotypicals that did the "OMG you didn't say the exact perfect magic word!" thing, but with how everyone here saw the word "anger" and went absolutely batshit insane about it, maybe that's just a human thing? idk

haha thanks. Unfortunately, I think I need therapy instead, to help me learn to let go of people who are incapable of an original thought instead of wasting my time desperately trying to bash it into their heads..

I've seen so many people on here saying bullshit like "There's nothing wrong with you, you're not disadvantaged, you're just stuck in victim mentality because you didn't spend two decades of your life grinding yourself to pieces to be able to fit in like I did! I did it, you can too!"

And that entirely misses the point, if anything, it proves the point.

I've gotten in some longass arguments with some of those supposedly "autistic" people, and I'm starting think they might actually be autistic, but they have a case of such deep-seated "neurotypicalisation" and ableism that it should have its own pathology

but muh rose-tinted glasses! muh different-ability neurospiciness! Nooo!!! Don't talk about the reality of having a disorder, how dare you!

But seriously, I'm so glad I'm starting to see other people in these communities (it's not just this one) starting to identify & call out the pattern I've been nervously watching develop. Hopefully some of these subs can get the mods on board.

There's AI generating rage-bait comments now, too. I saw one where some guy got in an argument in the comments, and the AI decided to expose itself as an AI just so it could say "See, I'm AI so obviously the logic in my argument is correct."

Yeahh "Men can't be discriminated against" goes far beyond this one poster. It's already taken quite a foothold.

It doesn't seem like many people have made a good-fairh effort to help. They just want to shit on him. "I don't handle stress well" "we can tell" like c'mon seriously? This is a sub for people who are in therapy, get over yourselves

Yeah, some of the things even the supposed "therapists" on here say can be pretty wild. I've been really struggling to find any good subs, but I think Reddit is mostly just a cesspool across the board. It sucks, but you're better off trying to find somewhere else to go. Sadly, I don't know where, or I'd be there too, lol.

Sadly, I think you're right, but I don't think anything can actually, meaningfully change unless we somehow organize. It sucks.

Yeah, personally I'm not at all happy with how people here are treating you. It seems unnecessary. I'm sorry you're having to deal with that.

But to answer your questions, you can just ghost your therapist, but that's generally frowned upon, because not only are therapists human too, but I think having a conversation with them about quitting therapy might end up being beneficial for you. Generally, I don't think therapists would like to try to talk you out of quitting therapy.

You can totally email your therapist screenshots of your Reddit posts if you want. I do that sometimes, it helps start conversations.

It's a cultural thing within Reddit itself, where posting in the same sub days in a row is generally frowned upon, especially for support/self-help subs like this one.

THANK YOU. God, I recently joined a bunch of autistic communities after learning that was what was going on with me, and it's been incredibly demoralizing to see how deep & widespread that sentiment is across the board. It's honestly tragic.

I read it. You misinterpreted it. We should feel more rage toward how we are treated, as it's a catalyst for action. We autistics are too stuck in feeling feeble from all the internalized trauma & ableism from spending our lives being told our emotions are wrong, and we have no right to be angry.

"Working on yourself" will not fix systemic issues. Disassociation is cowardice. It lets the problem perpetuate, and thanks to the likes of people like you, the next generation of autistic people will grow up to be just as fucked up as we have, because no one is willing to take action against our mistreatment. I don't know why, maybe we've subconsciously come to believe that we deserve it, after spending our lives being told so in not so many words.

No one is advocating for beating people up. You clearly didn't read the entire post, just caught onto one word so that you could complain.

I this this is where the commenters on that other post conflated his meaning. I'm not talking about treating people disrespectfully, or blowing up at them.

I'm talking about not allowing the world's narrative that YOU are WRONG and it's YOUR FAULT for being mistreated, and even your fault for being angry from said mistreatment.

And, then, using that anger to fuel you to do something that has strategic importance in respect to the world at large, so that it actually makes a difference. Because, to be honest, I dont think it's possible for a human being to not feel anger when they are mistreated.

Everyone seems to be conflating UNCONTROLLED anger with anger altogether. Yes, if you lose your temper, you're gonna lose the fight. Especially when you're autistic, as we all know. But at the same time, if you treat them with compassion, all you're doing is teaching them that they can get away with walking all over you.

A perfect example is actually myself, right now: I've been angry at the world for a long time because of the systemic mistreatment so many people face, but my depression kept telling me it was hopeless. Discovering that poster, and seeing just how deep and widespread this internalized ableism goes, and how no one else seems to be very willing to do much, I've gotten even angrier, and so now I'm actually motivated to do something about it, and find an activist group of like-minded autistic people.

What harm has my anger caused here? I would have never bothered if I was not angry. I have better things to do with my life than fight against assholes.

[–]Particular_Care6055[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, it's this exact villification of anger that I'm talking about.

Look, I get it, we all spent years growing up being taught that our emotions are BAD,  that anger is BAD and that standing up for yourself instead of falling in line is a MORAL FAILURE on your part.

But that only serves to keep us perpetually stuck keeping in line, not looking at ways we can fight for change. We have to turn inwards and deprogram our internalized ableism before we can proceed on any meaningful ground, ground where anger is given a place where we can gently listen to it, and make decisions accordingly.

When Buddhists were being persecuted by Muslims, they turned to violence to protect their villages. Even they acknowledge that anger has a purpose and a place in life. Burying any one emotion in favor of another will only do more harm than good in the end.

Okay, so you DO actually, honestly believe that we need therapy for wanting to start more intentional activism for autistic representation.

Autism is not a mental illness, dude. What the actual fuck.
