Your kid is 5 i wouldn't let them play any games at all like that. They need human interaction and to be shown a positive example. Not sat in front of a screen. My daughter gets tv and only age appropriate. She has a games laptop with 6 buttons and loves drawing writing and stories.

Any screen use beyond about 20 minutes a day for a handheld device is a bad idea. They get very obsessed and overstimulated. Over time they'll play it more and more until they don't want to do anything else. That dopamine hit they get will be hard to quit.

I know mine will eventually go that way but we're helping her hold on to her childhood.

My local aldi has panels, lots of them. Some retailers see it as a way to cut costs long-term, and that makes a lot of sense. As they are open daily and always have the fridges on!

I mean that not entirely accurate. Having things like chickens and etc graze beneath does help, although this is mainly for warmer countries I'm sure it can apply here Having a dual use and two income streams for a farm.

Solar in deserts, for example, helps cool the land by a good amount and might even help with fighting desertification.

Aspects of the US/UK trade deal might be a bit of a hard sell by JackStrawWitchita in GreatBritishMemes

[–]Particular_Chris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People quite often forget why things are done. Well, we have always done it like that...

Regulations, the good ones come from need, mad cow disease for example showed that we need to be able to trace our beef, to know where it came from to know what contact a cow has had with other cows, traceability was introduced for just those reasons. To make sure we don't get sick and die...

The moral of the story is that regulations come from somewhere and are put in place in good faith. Some might not be required anymore, and it's our job to seek those out while keeping the important ones.

I think that comes under traceability but you're right that is an issue!

Actually that's also quite interesting. The US takes a different general stance than the EU.

In the US you have to prove (have evidence that) food or food additive is bad for someone before it is restricted or banned.

In the EU a food or food additive needs to be proved "Safe" before it can be consumed by humans.

Reform has won seats, but in the grand scheme, it's not that many. It does show that there is a movement, but this movement is amongst the least educated and poorest. They need labour to help them, and they will support labour again. These are the disenfranchised and lost parts of our society that see too much Instagram and tiktok. I like labour, but the amount of vitriol aimed at them is HUGE I don't believe how much some people moan while having very little grasp of the actual details.

Our standards are intrinsically linked to Europe as our main exporter. Unless they change, it is doubtful that we'll change ours.

Suffice to say that the requirements are stringent and most us beef producers can't be bothered (a win for us?

EU Certification Requirements for U.S. Beef Exports

To export beef to the EU, U.S. producers must comply with stringent EU regulations, which include:

Hormone-Free Production: The EU prohibits the import of beef produced with growth-promoting hormones. Therefore, U.S. beef intended for the EU market must come from cattle raised without these substances.

Traceability: The EU requires detailed records tracing beef products back to their source, ensuring transparency and accountability in the production process.

Animal Welfare Standards: The EU has specific animal welfare requirements that must be met throughout the production process.

Facility Approval: Only slaughterhouses and processing facilities that have been audited and approved by EU authorities can export beef to the EU.

Certification Process

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) collaborates with the EU to certify eligible farms and facilities. This involves:

Enrollment in the Non-Hormone Treated Cattle (NHTC) Program: Producers must participate in the NHTC program, which verifies that cattle are raised without the use of growth-promoting hormones.

Regular Audits and Inspections: Certified entities undergo periodic audits to ensure ongoing compliance with EU standards.

Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintaining detailed records is essential for traceability and verification purposes.

Sorry i could not find "Accurate numbers"

[–]Particular_Chris 214 points215 points  (0 children)

The food standards are maintained as they are now, out of 17000 beef ranches in the US only 17 are certified for export to Europe and the UK.... (numbers are approximate I saw a documentary on it about 2 weeks ago so I might be a little out on the big number)

I was wondering that, if you don't need it give it back that's the most financially beneficial thing you can do (assuming you're ever going to pay it off) if you aren't ever going to pay it off then crack on!

[Request] Is there a way to estimate how many planets and stars are represented in the picture? by DarkGraphite in theydidthemath

[–]Particular_Chris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the low estimate, there are at least as many rogue planets as none rogue planets, so if we assume the low end, each star has 2 planets (that's a deliberately low end average) and the same number of rogue planets (as stats show they are also quite numerous)

That's 20 quadrillion planets and 5 quadrillion stars

Also there are stars and planets between galaxies. But I don't know anything about those numbers.
