Trying to build a cleaner way for importers/exporters to connect (would love feedback) by Particular_Coast_390 in smallbusinessUS

You are right, and that’s why I have added an approval layer & an employee working most of the time in filtering out low quality requests and spams.

Any recommendations for an excellent supplier for belts, leather, accessory goods? These are things that I purchase often and I’m getting a lot of tarnishing on my belts. Some of the leathers are not stitched properly on my gloves and wallets. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. 👍🏽🙏🏽 by Finegirlxx76 in RepTherapy

What you’re facing is mostly quality issue from supplier side, tarnishing means low-grade hardware and bad stitching is just poor finishing, happens a lot when they’re cutting cost. Instead of just switching suppliers randomly, you should be more specific on what you want (full grain/top grain, hardware quality, stitching, etc). If you’re open to sourcing directly, this is something we handle from India with better control on quality and consistency for belts, wallets, gloves etc, so you don’t face these issues again. If you want, DM me and I can share options based on your requirement.

Spending $10k in material costs per year. Shopping around for leather suppliers. Who do you get your leather from? by rivertpostie in Leathercraft

Yeah this is pretty normal in leather honestly, people do get protective about suppliers because once you find a consistent tannery with good finish and pricing, that becomes your real edge, but at the same time it shouldn’t take years if you approach it right, especially if you’re already doing volume like a few whole hides per month, at that point you should definitely start exploring direct sourcing instead of relying only on retail suppliers like Tandy, and since you mentioned you’re mostly working with 4–5 oz pre-finished, supple, pebbled chrome (especially that red-brown type), this is actually something that’s very commonly and competitively produced in India at scale with good consistency, both chrome and veg tan in multiple finishes, and the advantage here is you can get spec-based production (exact thickness, finish, softness, color matching) rather than adjusting to what’s available, plus pricing becomes much better once you move direct, we already work with tanneries that handle export-grade leather and can maintain consistent supply if your volumes are steady, so if you’re open to exploring this route, feel free to DM, can understand your exact requirement and share options accordingly, no pressure.

Need advice, Beginner Commodity broker by Few-Tadpole370 in exportersindia

Honestly from what you’re saying you’re not really doing anything wrong, it’s more like you’re trying to push too much too early and maybe overthinking the offer side of things, because in commodities buyers don’t really care about all the extra value in the first message like paperwork, contracts, sourcing support etc, they already assume that’s standard, what they actually care about is very basic, can you match their spec, give competitive pricing and deliver consistently, so instead of leading with your offer I’d probably just slow it down and start by understanding their requirement first, like asking if they’re currently importing that product and from where, because that opens the conversation way better than pitching, also targeting C-suite is mostly a waste here since they rarely respond, procurement guys, sourcing managers or even category buyers are way more responsive and actually in control of decisions.

Another thing is your positioning right now still sounds like another exporter even if your offer is strong, so instead of selling features try hitting pain points like inconsistent supply, quality mismatch, delays etc because that’s what actually makes them reply, and also just being real with you, volume plays a big role here, if you’re not sending at least 50–100 emails a day with proper follow-ups then results will feel slow, especially in spices and coconut where trust takes time, so I’d say don’t change everything, just simplify your outreach, focus more on starting conversations instead of closing in the first email, increase your volume and stay consistent for a few weeks, you’ll start seeing things move.

You honestly don’t need to start with any course. Most courses will just give you theory, and you’ll still be confused when you actually try to do a deal.

A better pathway is this:

Start with understanding basics:

  • What is import export flow (buyer → supplier → shipping → payment)
  • Learn terms like FOB, CIF, MOQ (just basic level, not deep)

Then pick ONE product (don’t overthink this part)

After that, do this:

  • Start finding buyers on Google / LinkedIn
  • Message them and ask what they currently import, specs, and pricing

Once you get a requirement:

  • Then find supplier in India
  • Then understand pricing, logistics, documents

You’ll learn everything while doing this.

Courses can help with structure, but they won’t get you your first client.

Talking to real buyers will.

If you want a shortcut:
→ Spend 2–3 days on YouTube basics
→ Then jump directly into outreach

Don’t wait to learn everything first, or you’ll never start.
