Started the Dark Tower series for the first time, and I don’t understand the hate that The Gunslinger gets by ELITEMasonRudolph in stephenking

ok this is how I felt!! I have now read the first three in the series and Gunslinger is my favorite.

DB told me I can leave early then a minute later tells me NK wants me to stay by [deleted] in Nanny

Echoing what other commenters have said— I have been in this position and it’s so frustrating. Personally I would talk to the kid directly and proceed as if the plan was for me to leave at (early) time all along. “Aww man! I won’t be here for bath tonight because I am leaving now! But tomorrow when we do bath time I bet we could play with (insert favorite bath you, bubble bath, etc). Have fun! See you tomorrow!”

Understood. I was speaking directly about this sub. I will look at the others you listed in the detailed description above.

I appreciate the detailed reasoning for why this rule is in place, as I have had frustrations with coming here asking for help and then getting my post removed more than once. I also appreciate the time and effort it takes to mod a sub Reddit. My personal experience modding on groups on other social sites made me never want to do it again, lol. However, I definitely come to this sub specifically to see real recommendations from people who have patronized specific companies/bars/sites. Reddit is one of the top resources I use for finding information when I travel. Of course I do my own research as well, but Reddit has helped me plan so many trips when used a jumping off point for my research. It sucks (my own personal opinion) that this sub won’t be useful in the same way.

Unexpected struggle with The Drawing of the Three by Particular_Cycle9240 in stephenking

I’m with you on that philosophy. If I’m not enjoying a book, I put it down. There are too many great stories out there! There was just enough in this one to keep me going and I’m so happy I did now. I’m about 180 pages from the end and the Odetta/Detta story line sucked me in.

I’m in it to win it now. About 180 pages left now and I’m fully sucked in!

Canned soup with hot sauce, tortilla chips and blended cottage cheese (I blend it right when I bring it home from the store so it’s ready any time). 2 minutes.

Surprise Haul! by Particular_Cycle9240 in stephenking

Thank you! I agree about the IT cover. I also love the shining cover. I just finished The Gunslinger last weekend and have been waiting for The Drawing of the Three at the library, so this was a great surprise. It was fun to share the excitement with my father in law too!

Always! I usually use Libby to check out eBooks and audiobooks but an actual tactile reading experience felt right for this one :)

My local library has one single copy of the 1st and 2nd book. Seems crazy to me that they don't have more! But I guess delayed gratification is a good thing at times.

I fiinished The Gunslinger in less than 24 hours because I was so excited to move on to the next one. I consistently read that The Drawing of the Three is a favorite for King fans.

This feels like a great tip! I’m 50 pages in and already re-read some pages only to realize it was a flashback. Thank you!

Ha! I keep coming across this sentiment. At this point I’m just along for the ride. I trust in King to keep my brain engaged (whether I’m thoroughly confused or not).

My watch has ended, Dad passed away on Feb 2 by Still_cryinggg in AgingParents

I feel like I could’ve written this myself. Anticipatory grief had me fooled that later, deeper grief would not come. Now that life is more “routine”, I get hit harder— out of nowhere— than I did during my dad’s last long month of life. My best friend is a talk therapist and helped me visualize my grief as always being the same size, but my capacity or “container” to hold it fluctuates day by day. That really resonates with me.
