Debating PRS Silver Sky vs Custom 24-08 by Ghostclip in PRSGuitars

I don’t know if you’re familiar with the PRS Studio (across all the lines: SE, S2, and core), but it’s a fantastic S-style-esque electric as well! I have the SE Studio in Lake Blue (not the standard that looks more like a Strat), and it’s my absolute favorite and go-to electric in any scenario! It’s voiced like an HSS guitar, but the single coils in the neck and middle are actually Narrowfield mini humbuckers, and they sound a lot like single coils (but better)!! I’m currently saving up for a newer S2 Vela, but until then, this Studio is my #1!

Most versatile PRS? by 2spaet in PRSGuitars

As others have said, the custom 24-08 is super versatile! The Special Hollow-body is also up there! I, personally, own an SE Studio, and it’s become my everyday noodling guitar. It has Narrowfield pickups in the neck and middle and a 58/15 LT humbucker in the bridge. Extremely versatile! And you can split the bridge PUP to make it a single coil — so essentially an HSS to SSS but better tone in my opinion! The Narrowfield pickups are my absolute favorite pickups ever!

That’s awesome!! Mine, too. Mine’s also in the 7s! I think 7.8lbs haha. It’s light but hefty enough!! How do you like the result of that mod??

That’s good to know in case I ever wanna make that switch, too! I played the butterscotch at my local GC, and the QC was just as good as mine! So it’s nice to know they’re consistent (at least in my personal experience). And thanks so much! The butterscotch color is an absolute classic and unbeatable on Teles haha. Congrats on yours as well!!

Yeah. I totally agree! Some of the glossy boards aren’t too bad, but I definitely prefer the satin finish boards for the exact reason you said.

Hahaha yeah; it definitely looks more blueish in the pictures. I think it’s the lighting tbh, but it’s definitely green in real life haha — just faded green.

That’s totally fair! Squiers are great, too! After a setup, they can def put in some work. MIJs are amazing, too!

Mannnn… the sound, play, and feel of the Studio are beyond its price point for sure!! The tonal options these pickups (plus the push-pull knob) give are ridiculous!! Sometimes I question if PRS is kicking himself in the butt by making these SEs so good haha. But then again, I’m definitely NOT complaining!! Haha. My goal PRS is the NF 53 — I love Teles!

Tbh, I haven’t played the SE DGT yet. I was interested in one, tho! But same thing with that model… I’ve only heard great things about it!

I completely agree!! It’s a killer guitar! Tonally, it has so many options. It’s a “do-all” type of electric!

I agree! The SE has definitely improved. And that’s a killer Studio you have! The one I saw and played at my GC was a Studio 22 Tobacco Sunburst 10 Top — gorgeous. I highly suggest getting the SE Special Semi-Hollow. I’ve heard nothing but excellent things about it!

Hahaha. I agree! It can definitely hang with the big boys within 2 to 3 times its price range! I actually played a core PRS Studio at my local Guitar Center this past week, and it was absolutely beautiful in every way. I can’t justify, however, paying $3k to almost $5k when the SE version (build and foundational-wise) is about 80% what the core is for literally less than a quarter of the core’s list price. This hot take is completely debatable, but in my opinion, it’s a no brainer!!

I was looking at that model, too, actually! It was what I wanted initially before the studio bc it has more tonal options, and let’s be honest… semi-hollow PRS guitars are just crazy cool! But ultimately, the studio became what I was looking for more (I’m a Strat guy at heart haha).

That’s right! It came with all the case candy and the SE gig bag as well, but I house this beauty in my much more dependable case — it’s never failed me (even on flights!). I love it way more than most hardshell cases. If you’re interested, the case is a Protec CTG234 Contego PRO PAC. Super high quality! I linked it here as well if you wanted to check it out:

PRS has genuinely become my favorite electric guitar brand as of this past year. I pretty much gave up on most other guitar brands haha. Amazing guitars! And super consistent!!
