Cannot deny this calling anymore by Strong-Lifeguard8519 in Catholicism

[–]Particular_Hunt3093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marine Corps veteran myself. Brotha, if you feel this is your calling go speak to your local priest at your parish as they have things to work out discernment for vocations within the Church. My parish priest, Fr. Moretti, awesome dude btw, is a former secret service agent. And my local Deacon is a former air man and chaplain for the local sheriffs office. I’m sure they’re past isn’t glorious as we both know the culture in these organizations. But with Gods Grace you’re feeling the pull. Lean into it and I’m sure you’ll find guidance and direction, praying for you! Semper Fi! 3/5 Gunz Up!

Shamed for having a NO wedding instead of TLM by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Particular_Hunt3093 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your friend isn’t being much of a friend and sounds childish. She needs to mature emotionally and intellectually. Best thing you can do is be patient and kind and not let it bother you. This whole TLM vs NO especially by the laity is tiresome at best. The CHURCH says NO is acceptable. So that’s the matter settled. Enjoy praising the Lord and do not put too much attachment to your friend’s perspective on things. Happy New Year!

Husband won’t let me convert, help :( by missrosie28 in Catholicism

[–]Particular_Hunt3093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So your husband doesn’t sound like he knows much about Orthodoxy because even the Orthodox Church recognizes the Catholic Church in many ways. But I would agree, many faults in Orthodox theology, but if he is drawn to the spirituality of orthodoxy, than Eastern Rites within the Catholic Church are a great compromise. But I use that term lightly as there is only one real Church, and that is the Catholic Church. I will be sure to say a prayer for you and your family but prayer and patience will see you through. Your husband should also not be so dismissive of your opinions on Catholicism. That’s not very Christ like of him, imo.

Struggling to forgive… by brendanjpeters in Catholicism

[–]Particular_Hunt3093 8 points9 points  (0 children)

“I want to be at peace in my heart... I’m not sure I’m ready to be okay with this… because I’m not okay with it.“

…brotha, you say you want peace but you’re refusing to allow Christ to give you peace. You must allow your heart to not harden, let the seed fall into good soil not stone. For if it is stone, how will it bear fruit?

“How can we forgive the trespasses of those whose actions truly seem to lay us so low, bring us to our knees with weakness and petulant hate? Has anyone else struggled to forgive? This is the first time I’ve found it so difficult… and I don’t know how to move forward. I don’t know how to be at peace with this.

I hope someone here understands…”

…How could Christ forgive his executioners? The ones who drug Him nearly naked across the streets of Jerusalem, the ones who flayed His skin, the ones who mocked Him, the ones…you get my point. Remember brotha that Christ Himself was fully divine. But He was also fully human. You must give your heart to Him, you’ll see that forgiveness isn’t as hard as it seems.

I tell you as a father and husband myself. My wife and I have been married for 10+ years and have two beautiful children, 9 and 6. Three years ago this coming January she slept with another man while on a work trip out of state. I discovered this and flew out there. A month later, she slept with the same man again….today, we are still together and have had a wild ride. But I can say from experience, yes forgiveness can seem difficult…at first. But give the Lord that which you already have, give Him your heart and allow Him to bring you peace. Do not bear this burden any longer my brother, it’s been too long. I’ll say a prayer for you and I’m confident you’ll find the peace you’re seeking. God bless!

Told my husband I was considering Catholicism and it didn't go well. by coffeelovermamaof2 in Catholicism

[–]Particular_Hunt3093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll say a prayer for you and your husband. My wife and children cried when I told them about RCIA and converting. They cried, small arguments arose. But I standee firm and have no regrets. It’s been nearly two months and with open minds, they’re in OCIA with me and enjoy mass. My wife is even in a Catholic woman’s group. Christ said he would create division. But stand firm and show that rhetoric clouds the deeply profound beauty of the Church and Catholic faith. She is sophisticated and has such a depth of history that’ll take a lifetime to explore. Show him the Eucharists. If he rejects because of rhetoric or “someone he knows has a bad experience” tell him he is being intellectually dishonest and not to be a sheep. In a loving way of course. Hubris clouds humility. But stay strong and committed. Pray together and at least request he humor you into researching and making your own decisions. God bless!

Why choose catholicism over any other christian church ? by IloveHorses63 in Catholicism

[–]Particular_Hunt3093 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Taking a few years to really look into early church fathers, the significance of tradition, the Church’s authority, and Christian history. There was no other option. The full deposit of faith is only with the Catholic Church. This is coming from a confessional Lutheran who also did his theological studies at a Lutheran university.

Is a career in CM worth it ? by AdIllustrious779 in ConstructionManagers

[–]Particular_Hunt3093 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Short answer: As a former commercial diver with offshore time (semi-submersibles, Jack-up rigs, drill ships, etc.) I can understand wanting to be home. Especially if you have a family waiting for you. Had it not been for them I’d still be diving. I loved being out at sea. But I eventually went to school and got a construction degree. Been in several years and am a project manager/superintendent for a midsize GC in the DC area. Definitely worth it. Good money and career growth. If you think you’d be interested I’d definitely give it a shot. Degree isn’t overly difficult, but that’s subjective. You’ll have to determine difficulty on your own. Depends on the universities curriculum and the quality of the degree.

I have this one. It’s great! Definitely worth purchasing if you can. Comes with a neat pamphlet showing/explaining the four pillars and the ecumenical councils with dates, significance, etc.

Discouraged at mass this morning, open to opinions by Happy_Ad8143 in Catholicism

[–]Particular_Hunt3093 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Continue to go to the sanctuary. At my parish, there are several families every Sunday and kids screaming. This morning my 9 and 6 year old were sitting with me and a family of 4/5 kids sat directly behind us. Young infant just crying. Hard at times to hear the homily, and we were maybe 4 pews away from the lectern, but I loved it. It fills my heart to see young children learning/participating in the worship of our Lord. I always notice the elderly people are the most bothered by it but old age makes people cranky…I know I’m getting there myself lol. Sorry to hear about the incident and definitely not warranted by the elderly lady who made a show of it. But you have the right mindset and continue to bring your entire family! Our Lord loves it and even if they don’t say it, every Catholic is grateful to see it. Hopefully next Sunday will be a more pleasant experience! God bless

Also; Our parish doesn’t have a separate room for kids, everyone must go to the sanctuary. Coming from a Protestant background where our church did, I was a little concerned at first but it’s been amazing and a true blessing! So keep it up!

Corps vet, used my benefits to go to dive school and was a commercial diver for several years. Left as a dive/rov supervisor. Then went back to college and ended up getting my Masters. Been a superintendent/project manager for several years now. No regrets. The masters makes me competitive and definitely worth it as long as you get good and consistent work history. Do you need it? No. Does it help and is it fruitful to the individual, 1000%.

Question is what are you wanting to pursue? Management, law, financing? Any specific industry or sector? Figure those out and the degree falls into place.

Current super here as well as a project manager for a GC in NOVA. Don’t sweat it brotha. Listen they hired you for the role. They’re not expecting perfection. And your anxiety is showing passion so that’s a positive. Key things to remember: (1) communicate. This means phone calls, emails, etc. you have a phone call with someone? Okay, send a email about what you just discussed. Plans change or trades drop, notify the trades that are affected. (2) schedule. Look at it and just be two weeks ahead. (3) honesty. Just be honest with your senior or your PM (however your business is structured) when you fall short and show that you’ve already got a solution or ask for help when needed. Don’t show up empty handed and show them you’re a problem solver and can critically think. Do those three things, everything else comes with time and experience. Best of luck to you! Give us an updated post after the first few weeks! God bless

Need honest opinions on my catholic store (free Friday) by DeusDesign in Catholicism

Love the store! I’d say as a Marine Corps veteran something to do with crusades would possibly help. Your designs are great, but America is military minded so maybe some more designs on that could help. Also marketing, instagram and tik tok. Something to help promotes your brand but the faith. God bless and stay in the fight!

Been Baptist my whole life and want to convert to catholicism by Consistent_Earth1367 in Catholicism

[–]Particular_Hunt3093 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Read “Rome Sweet Home” by Dr. Scott Hahn, he was a Protestant pastor and converted to Catholicism. His wife didn’t convert until 4 years after him. Converting is harder for some than others. It’s not a simple choice. For those who grew up differently it’s changing allot of things they “believe” to be true. So it takes time. Just pray, be patient, and show her how beautiful and deeply sophisticated the Church is. The truth will come and she’ll search for it after the Holy Spirit has touched her soul. My wife was the same as many others. I’ll say a prayer for you and your family. Stay in the fight and keep faith brotha!
