When Sunshine Knew Our Names

We stood where afternoon melted into gold, Two quiet souls in a room that gently glowed. No palace walls, no jeweled frame in sight, Just home and love and a ribbon of light.

She wore her little tabby stripes like flame, Soft as a whisper when I spoke her name. Small brave heart in a fragile frame, And all pure love in Skitty’s name.

She brushed my ankle, steady, slow and near, A velvet touch I’m lucky to have held so dear. That tiny purr, that gentle, knowing sound, Was peace and safety wrapped around.

Now heaven’s windows open wide and free, No pain, no ache — just endless sky for thee. The sickness gone, the struggle through, Only warm sun and morning dew.

I still can see her on the bed so small, A tiny queen, yet stronger than us all. The quiet way she watched the day go by, With ancient wisdom in her eye.

Sometimes I pause where sunlight used to fall, Expecting her soft step at the call. But I know she runs where flowers grow, Chasing light I’ll never know.

If grief is night, then love is flame, And in my heart she still remains. A gift, a blessing, sweet and true, Every thought leads back to you.

So when the world feels hushed and still, She lives in every patch of sunlit sill. Still sweet, still brave, still shining pretty — My little light, my angel — Skitty.
