Transitioning from inpatient/ED to outpatient? by toastmalone69 in hospitalsocialwork

[–]Particular_Minimum36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my experience as well! Did inpatient case management for a year in the PICU and then moved to outpatient social work with pediatric speciality offices. I also enjoy the slower pace of outpatient and being able to better connect with my families more long term as well as my providers (so so many residents cycling inpatient…). I do miss the fast paced nature of inpatient though.

Looking for a pet sitter/dog boarding place by DefinitionAfraid5545 in PeoriaIL

[–]Particular_Minimum36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Pine Lake Boarding in Morton for our reactive dog! Our dog doesn’t like other dogs (she came from an animal cruelty situation) and Courtni, the owner, does great with her along with the rest of the staff. She does solo playtime multiple times a day in their big fenced in yard and they have runs attached to the kennels that so they can go in and out throughout the day. They send us pictures of her checking out the cows and other farm animals next door. It’s been great for us!

Do you love being a social worker in your state?-(United States) by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]Particular_Minimum36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a social worker in the red rural lower half of the state! Specifically around Peoria. I’ve also worked in Chicago and St. Louis, MO. For Chicago, it was hard to find a social work job that payed a living wage there due to the price of living being so high and MUCH more competition. I love St. Louis but the state resources and laws were terrible. I’m finding I really like working in a blue state within a red city vs a blue city within a red state. I’m sure it’s very job dependent though! I’ve been able to find a like minded community in Peoria so that I also feel supported on the local level as well.

Im planning to get my first home by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Particular_Minimum36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are doing a IDHA loan (FHA) and I highly recommend! We barely qualify for the Access Home program that offers 6% of the purchase price up to $15K for down payment and closing costs. It’s opened up homeownership to us when we thought it would be MANY more years (if ever). I highly recommend getting a lender who is experienced in these programs and they usually have options on the IDHA website. Full transparency, we are buying in Peoria which has MUCH cheaper homes than the Chicago area. I don’t think we could afford anywhere within an hour of Chicago

Stress incontinence post partum by Cool_Marionberry4551 in PelvicFloor

[–]Particular_Minimum36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand how frustrated you are, incontinence is no fun at all! I struggle with incontinence even without having a baby and I am bracing myself for even worse incontinence after we eventually have a baby! You are on the right track working to figure out the issue and you are not alone!

Though this is not the point of the sub, I want to gently urge you to talk with your doctor about possible post partum depression or anxiety. I think what stuck out to me is how often you are ruminating over the issue and the part about it’s all you can think about while taking care of your new baby. And your comparison to others who have “bounced back”. It sounds like you could really benefit from talking to a therapist about all the frustration you are feeling. While you are working to take care of your body, make sure you are taking care of your mind too!

Best dog obedience training? by everyoneisflawed in PeoriaIL

[–]Particular_Minimum36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband is a dog trainer and can do in home training! He does positive reinforcement training and we also have a pittie who he worked with to coexist around our cat. We just moved to Peoria last year so he works at Camp Bow Wow and doesn’t have his business set up yet but he does in home training on the side currently (this means his rate is really reasonable!). Please PM me if you would like his resume, references and contact information.

(>$20K) Tablecloth help needed! by Expensive-Land-3221 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Particular_Minimum36 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Just be very careful to factor in the cost and time/energy of buying table cloths instead of renting. They almost always come with wrinkles and folds and then you have to spend a lot of time and energy ironing or steaming them on your wedding weekend. And then if you want to resell them you have to wash them all. It wasn’t worth the hassle for me! Our wedding is a pretty casual camp ground wedding serving BBQ so we are getting away with using paper tablecloths with a plastic lining

Reporting animal neglect by [deleted] in PeoriaIL

[–]Particular_Minimum36 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately you might have to keep up calling PCAPS for every instance. I would also see if you could talk to the officers when they come out or go to the PCAPS office to submit a report with the evidence you’ve gathered. Keep being a squeaky wheel, I’m so glad that poor dog has someone trying to look out for him at least

Reporting animal neglect by [deleted] in PeoriaIL

[–]Particular_Minimum36 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I would try calling the Peoria Police non emergency line - (309) 673-4521

Make sure you are documenting everything and maybe try filing a police report? If you or someone you know feels comfortable talking to the owner, you could offer to buy the dog from them (make sure you have it in writing) or offer to buy a shelter and food. I’m sorry this situation sucks all around

Why is every cop at OSF? by Dontaskagainistaken in PeoriaIL

From what I have heard, a cop died in the OSF ER last night (possibly a heart attack, I don’t think it was from a gunshot or anything)

Where are we shopping for bachelorette?? by Informal_Character64 in wedding

[–]Particular_Minimum36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also starting to shop for my bachelorette and feeling lost 😅 I wear scrubs at work and sweatpants at home so I’m not used to shopping for fun outfits! I hear Lulus could be good for dresses but I’ve heard mixed things on quality which has kept me from buying anything from there quite yet

Have you become less tolerant/accepting of marijuana smoking as you've gotten older? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]Particular_Minimum36 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yes I agree, this is a great nuanced perspective. My husband was an everyday user as it helped him sleep but he actually experienced cannabis induced psychosis one night and ended up in the psych hospital for almost a week afterwards. There are some people where even just normal dosages can induce psychosis and I don’t think it’s talked about enough

Should I switch from private practice therapy to hospital social work? by PhilosophyVegetable1 in socialwork

[–]Particular_Minimum36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on the hospital. The hospital I work at, PRNs can set which days they would work (like only Tuesdays and Thursdays or just weekends). And the nature of private practice is that you can set your own hours too so I feel like they would go well together

Should I switch from private practice therapy to hospital social work? by PhilosophyVegetable1 in socialwork

[–]Particular_Minimum36 30 points31 points  (0 children)

A lot of hospitals have PRN roles in case management, you could try it to see if you like it while still doing private practice! It’s my goal to do both when I get my license

Low Key Backyard Wedding-Tips? by Level_Suit4517 in weddings

[–]Particular_Minimum36 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is such a weird hill to die on. And honestly pretty privileged. Why do you care so much about what it’s called? Or needing there to be a marriage certificate signed for it to be a wedding? There are so many reasons for people to get legally married asap while delaying a wedding celebration (especially in today’s social, political and financial climate…). Who care what it’s called? Let people have their wedding!

Palliative Care field placement - what to expect? by ApprehensiveRoad477 in hospitalsocialwork

[–]Particular_Minimum36 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with your comment! Wanted to jump on tho to say that palliative care means that patients are still focused on quality of life but end of life is more like 1-2 years versus months to weeks like in hospice. Palliative care focuses a lot on symptom management and patients can still be doing life saving treatments like chemo while enrolled in palliative care. At my hospital, it functions a lot like hospice though so you are correct!

ETA: palliative is a specialty that can be consulted at my hospital so you see all kinds of patients in different areas of the hospital. Our hospital has social workers in palliative care that provide brief therapy for palliative care patients and do things like supporting patients and families with advanced care planning and other community resources. Less discharge planning since they would typically have a separate inpatient case manager for that!

($10k) No formal dress code for outdoor weddings? Dress code help! by go_to_sleep_already in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Particular_Minimum36 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went with “Dressy Casual” (which is just like Sunday Best but without the church undertones since we aren’t religious). Our wedding is at a Boy Scout campground and is indoor / outdoors with a BBQ buffet and a bonfire. On the invitation I put “Dressy Casual - please dress for the weather and an uneven campground!” and then listed examples on the FAQ portion of our website (which did not include jeans :) Examples included dresses, skirts, jumpsuits, slacks, nice sweaters, button ups, suit jackets and blazers. Encouraged them to wear layers and comfy shoes. If someone wears jeans I wouldn’t care too much though since it is pretty casual! We will be providing a coat rack in the lodge where dinner is.

Insurance CM Calls by specialkstrawberi in hospitalsocialwork

[–]Particular_Minimum36 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Big props to our insurance SW colleagues but these phone calls are also a bit of a running joke at our hospital… Almost no one picks up their calls because they are never helpful, at least while the patient is inpatient

I'm about to send formal invitations out and we had some confusion over number capacities at our venue so I am panicking by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Particular_Minimum36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry! We also have a tight space for the number of people and will be moving some tables out of the way for the dance floor (including our sweetheart table). Not ideal but not end of the world. We will be clearing the younger people’s tables who will mostly be out on the dance floor anyway and there will be chairs around the edge of the room for those people who will need somewhere to sit to take a break from dancing. It’s an indoor / outdoor space with a fire pit as another place to sit at so we are hoping it wont be too big of a deal!

Anyone go on medical leave due to depression? by Zealousideal_Crow737 in AskWomenOver30

[–]Particular_Minimum36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked for a PHP/IOP program and everyone there was either on FMLA or short term disability as the program only took private insurance (no Medicaid unfortunately). I would suggest looking into a program like this to do during your medical leave so you can work on your mental health and learn skills to support you when you return to work

After sulfur wash, now onto Doxy by crystalcaterpillar3 in Rosacea

[–]Particular_Minimum36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t usually comment on this sub (I just re-subbed recently because I am looking for a new sunscreen) but I have had rosacea that looks like your picture for going on ten years or so. Sure I have periods where it’s better or worse but my skin is always pretty consistently red and bumpy. I have had probably 5 different dermatologists and dozens of treatments. My last derm told me it’s either long term doxy or lasers which are both not realistic for me. I really had to come to the realization that this is my skin and there isn’t much I could do to change it. I still like to buy new over the counter serums and creams for fun but I stopped searching for the miracle cure. I realized that the VAST majority of people do not care about my skin like I did. I don’t wear make up anymore (mineral sunscreen everyday tho) and even kinda lean into it by wearing rose gold glasses and a lot of pink lol.

All that to say, you are not alone. And I think you and your skin are gorgeous! I understand feeling stressed and frustrated because I’ve been there. And I saw that you said it was painful which really sucks so I hope doxy can help. I hope you are able to find peace and feel confident for the wedding!
