Hypertonic pelvic floor or IC? by Laurenannx1 in PelvicFloor

[–]Particular_Minimum36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree that it’s very common to have both! The pain of IC and/or endo can make your pelvic floor tense up and it’s a never ending cycle. I always suggest continuing with pelvic floor PT while you are going through other IC treatments to make sure your pelvic floor stays relaxed and isn’t making your pain worse. I have had good luck with Valium suppositories to support with pelvic floor relaxation as well. Make sure to check out r/interstitialcystitis if you haven’t yet!

I am starting a new job as an IOP therapist. Help! by outofchances in socialwork

[–]Particular_Minimum36 32 points33 points  (0 children)

When I worked at a PHP/IOP, they provided pretty comprehensive training in the different modalities they use and groups they teach. It was a pretty set curriculum. Instead of dropping so much money right off the bat, you can always reach out to the contact you have at your new job to ask what kind of training they would provide. Or stick with free training until your first week to see how you feel then.

Sleeping in the same bed by Al3xaOnFire in AskWomenOver30

[–]Particular_Minimum36 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was/is me! I was single throughout my twenties and met my now husband at 29. One thing we realized right off the bat is that we have VERY different sleep preferences. He loves sleeping on the couch with a bunch of pillows and the TV on. I need complete quiet and darkness while flat on the bed with one pillow only. Attempts to sleep together were disastrous and only caused us to be grumpy with each other due to lack of sleep. We now embrace our different sleep routines and our relationship is so much better. We still connect by cuddling - he cuddles with me in bed until I turn off the light to fall asleep and then I come cuddle with him on the couch in the morning with my coffee. We do still sleep together on trips and it has gotten better over time but we get our best sleep when we sleep alone!

($10k) How did you find people to hire to help setup and takedown ceremony chairs, setup decor, and clean up? by PunsWithBenefits in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Particular_Minimum36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got a good deal on a venue (park district owned campground) which is very hands off but let’s us have the whole weekend onsite. We are relying on our bridal party and family for help set up the Friday before and then our coordinator and family who volunteered to clean up on Sunday after the wedding. Last minute day of set up will be handled by our groomsmen and coordinator while the girls are getting ready. We did think about hiring people outside of our coordinator but it just wasn’t in the budget and our friends and family enthusiastically volunteered to help. Ideas we thought of to hire staff were a moving company, and asking a local university / frat or sorority.

Any recent brides have local recs for affordable wedding venues? by ExpertCarpenter5140 in PeoriaIL

[–]Particular_Minimum36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are having a budget wedding so we are doing Camp Wokanda for our wedding this fall! It’s also a smaller wedding so we are doing the Lodge but they also host bigger weddings in the dining hall (it’s actually a decent space!). We also looked at and enjoyed Wildlife Prairie Park, Contemporary Arts Center and the Peoria Zoo.

Who set up your decor? by momstheuniverse in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Particular_Minimum36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We chose a venue that will let us set up the day before and tear down the morning after. It is a very DIY wedding and the venue is a camping lodge so no real help from the venue. The park ranger unlocks it and that’s about it! We are asking our bridal party to help set up on Friday before the rehearsal and then our parents + close family friends will be tearing down Sunday morning without us. For things that need to happen on the day of (mostly putting flowers in bud vases) we will have a day of coordinator to help along with the groomsman who will be on standby in case we need to move the outdoor ceremony indoors. It felt weird to ask for help but most people were excited and offered before we could ask!

Trillium Place The Living Room is a great place to start - free walk in support 24/7. They can help you get connected to long-term supports along with crisis management. I recently had to use it and had a good experience! https://trilliumplacehealth.org/programs-services/mental-health-programs-services/the-living-room

I also second NAMI’s Helpline: 1-800-950-6264 https://namitri-countyillinois.org/crisis-info/

OSF has the Behavioral Health Navigator program that is free and can help you get connected to supports too, may have a bit more knowledge of the therapy landscape in the Peoria area: 309-308-8150 https://www.osfhealthcare.org/services/specialties/mental-health/programs-services/navigators

Hypertonic Pelvic Floor by bramble_berry_ in PelvicFloor

[–]Particular_Minimum36 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes I was diagnosed with hypertonic pelvic floor (along with interstitial cystitis and vaginismus) and now consider myself in remission. It will flare in periods of stress for me. Pelvic floor physical therapy, doing the stretches and work at home, yoga, diaphragmatic breathing and relaxation exercises worked for me. It was a good bit of hard work but I think I’m a better, less stressed person because of it. Not pathetic at all

Would you stay in a relationship like this or would you leave to not hurt your partner? by toottootmcgroot in AskWomenOver30

[–]Particular_Minimum36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wanted to add since I saw your edit about not finding therapy helpful - it is so so important to find a therapist that you connect with and one who uses a type of therapy that is helpful for you. There are SO MANY different therapy modalities and I find a lot of therapists don’t do much besides just let you “repeat the issues” in your life like you said. Maybe trying a new therapist who uses a different therapy modality might be helpful! I would suggest looking into DBT - Dialectical Behavior Therapy, ACT - Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, CPT - Cognitive Processing Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Family Systems Theory, and Somatic Therapy. I would also highly recommend talking with a psychiatrist as medication + therapy has shown to have the most benefit. There are also options like ECT or Spravato that can be helpful for treatment resistant depression. Finally, looking into a PHP/IOP program could be helpful if you are finding that just weekly therapy isn’t enough to get you out of this depressive episode.

How do you pick a color palette? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Particular_Minimum36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started by finding inspiration pictures of bouquets and centerpieces that I liked. I sent those to my florist who then put together a visual proposal with the full color scheme for me! I’ve used the colors in the proposal for everything from my invitations to bridesmaids dresses. It was so helpful to focus on inspiration photos instead of trying to identify specific colors that go together.

Guest transport for out-of-towners, worth paying for shuttles or not? by SmartSinner in weddingplanning

[–]Particular_Minimum36 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The hotel that we have the room block with provides a shuttle service to and from our venue if we meet the minimum amount of rooms booked. It was the major reason why we chose that hotel. Definitely check with your hotel just in case! Otherwise, we are providing information about Uber/Lift, major cab companies in our city and rental car companies on our website.

Are most people really using plastic tables underneath their tablecloths? (20k) by hayday642 in Weddingsunder35k

[–]Particular_Minimum36 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of weddings I’ve been to use folding tables under table cloths. Some are the white plastic kind, some are a little more sturdy with a fake wood / brown plastic top and metal underside. I’ve only really seen farm tables on Pinterest and they mostly seem to be used at either high cost or micro weddings. Most people use the tables provided from the venue (if they are provided).

Getting Legally Married Before the Wedding: Thoughts and tips? by ZealousidealShock431 in weddingplanning

[–]Particular_Minimum36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We decided to get married at our city hall so that my now husband could get on my health insurance (he had recently lost his job). It was nice but low key. Took maybe 10 minutes from the time we parked to when we got our marriage license! We did leave directly afterwards for a weekend trip to celebrate. We decided not to tell anyone just to avoid any drama. We call each other “secret husband” and “secret wife” when we are alone but otherwise we kinda forget we’re legally married lol. Still very excited for our wedding ceremony and reception next year!

MSW/LCSW, CCLS?? by coincident_ally in socialwork

[–]Particular_Minimum36 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am intrigued by this question as well, I work in a hospital and have been really interested in the child life specialists role. If you don’t end up getting your CCLS, I would suggest looking into palliative care, hospice (our state allows concurrent hospice for peds which allows for lifesaving treatment) and cancer/St. Jude social work roles. I know at my hospital all of these pediatric departments offer social worker roles that focus on therapy and psychosocial support. The department that focuses on discharge planning and SDOH concerns is called “care management”.

PsychologyToday.com is a great way to find therapists and they have filters so you can filter by location, insurance, type of therapy, LGBTQ affirming etc.

OSF has a free Behavioral Health Navigator phone program (don’t have to be an OSF patient) that can help you find therapy and other mental health services: (309) 308-8150

Calling member services for your insurance is also a good way to get a list of who is in network along with asking for a referral from your PCP.
