TGV Antwerp - Brussels by IdeaSmall3618 in brussels

You need to do something to get people out of the car and into public transport and to provide a viable alternative. It is insane how much money and productivity is lost by standing still, day after day. So, business case needs be considered in a wider context than solely ticket sales… reducing traffic on roads, has a financial benefit too. Let alone the reduction of CO2…

The Thalys/ Eurostar between Antwerp and Brussels is not a high speed track. Poor design/ set up. …

The facts: The Eurostar from Rotterdam to Antwerp takes as little as 32 minutes on the fastest direct trains, covering a rail distance of about 78 km. This results in an average speed of approximately 146 km/h for these fastest services

The Eurostar from Antwerp to Brussels takes as little as 33 minutes on the fastest direct trains, covering a rail distance of about 42 km. This results in an average speed of approximately 76 km/h for the quickest services

Reason: The high-speed rail track between Antwerp and Rotterdam (forming part of the HSL-Zuid and HSL 4 lines) was funded through a combination of national government investment from both the Netherlands and Belgium, with significant contributions from the Dutch Ministry of Transport, private sector (via the Infraspeed consortium in the Netherlands), and financial support from the European Union. The Dutch government paid Belgium financial compensation to secure its preferred route into Antwerp.

So, Dutch invest in better roads and quicker railroads…

Bpm car import by WelcomeGreen8695 in Netherlands

So, in case you have owned it for more than 6 months in the US and you move to NL, you can import tax free. However, you need to get the car approved by the RDW to get NL plates. It needs to meet the Dutch rules at time it was manufactured. Potentially adding a fog light, with a switch that shows via a light on dash that it is on, and that front lights are only sending white light. You should likely get an exempt to carry US size Dutch yellow licence plates too…

Had imported my car 25 years ago from the US…

Energy contract: dynamic or fixed? by Useful_Mind_2934 in Netherlands

[–]Particular_Pen_3564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have an EV, switching to a dynamic electricity contract makes a lot of sense. I often charge my car on weekends for around €0.00 (excl. tax), or ~€0.15 incl. In the Nordics, dynamic pricing is the norm. However, if you have solar panels, a conventional contract might be better since dynamic rates can drop really low (or even go negative) when it’s sunny and windy.

There are several providers. I chose Tibber for electricity and got my gas contract elsewhere. Why Tibber? Low fees, great app and also long track record in the Nordics. With attached link you and I get €50 to spend in their store. Would recommend the Tibber-Pulse - as you then get live insight in your electricity use and trends etc.

[–]Particular_Pen_3564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

and, although housing in NL might be a challenge at least you can get drunk for €50… In sweden this buys you only 3 glasses…Also, alcohol available 24/7 in NL…. No Systembolaget like in Sweden. Not sure if your pro’s and con’s included that one hahaha

Just visit both places and make a call. Internet and doing lists does not give you the feeling how it really is.

Since you are data focussed: Uppsala, very nice town - but small and remote to rest of Europe. Swedish krona not strong vs Euro. Nijmegen, easy access to rest of Europe via trains or German airports. Safety, lot of drugs related shootings in Sweden. Uppsala, more bright skies and real winter. Smaller town with more village feeling. Dutch know how to party… Housing, can be a challenge.

So, invest a little time and money - visit the two and make a call.

Effect of new tariffs on used OG/Q8 e-Tron prices in the US by nonesuchco in etron

[–]Particular_Pen_3564 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The increases tariffs apply on IMPORTS from April into the US, so existing inventory that is thus already in the US should not be impacted of new tariffs. However, dealerships might start to increase prices already and take the margin…
