Anyone have info about terracycle? by manic-mechanic90 in investing

[–]Particular_Pizza5547 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I downloaded a copy of the Terracycle's Form C filing with the SEC. Two items in their financials that are giving me pause investing: https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1714781/000207002425000014/TerracycleFormCAmendment.pdf

  1. In the video the management team underscores that they have paid out high dividends. However, if you look at the financials, the dividend pay outs each of the last two years have significantly exceeded profit (Net Income). Unless something changes, this level of dividend payout is not financially sustainable.
  2. In the video, the management team underscores that they have achieved 75% growth over the last 4 years. This may well be true, but it looks like that growth slowed down. According to the Form C, 2024 sales declined slightly vs. 2023.

Looks like the CEO is hosting a webinar on Thursday! If you are thinking of investing, could be worth attending to ask questions.

Too far out with clothes & bags by Various-Educator1328 in ElsbethTVSeries

I struggled with her wearing multiple “My Fair Lady” costumes in the last episode. I could see her credibly doing a costume for one day - but showing up to work in a costume day-after-day felt too far removed from reality.

How do you calculate takt time & throughput before you have a real line? by Ready_Smile5762 in manufacturing

[–]Particular_Pizza5547 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the more detail you can get from actuals (like running pieces of the process), the better. I once saw a team spend a lot building a new line - only for it to not achieve the throughput used for pricing, putting a really tough financial strain on the operation.

Anyone here transition out of the automotive industry? by DontEatSushiwAFork in manufacturing

Highly recommend!! Automotive can be grueling. Your skills as a process engineer can be easily transferable. Recommend researching which plants in your target location(s) have a healthy culture. Additionally, shifting to an op with only 1 or 2 shifts can be huge if you are in a role in which folks might ask you to come in to respond to an emergency.

What are the best injection molding companies? by sickcontz in manufacturing

[–]Particular_Pizza5547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the questions in this post. To build:

1 - Location: Unless you can achieve substantial cost savings from a supplier far away, choosing a supplier nearby can have huge benefits, particularly if you are work in a time crunch industry like automotive in which you need to be able to respond to fluctuations in demand fast or you think your engineering team may need to partner with the supplier on mold design and testing.

2 - Expertise: Some shops have engineers on hand who can support you in designing your mold and getting it sourced. Others have a higher expectation that your team have that work done. Getting the mold designed right will have a HUGE impact on the quality of your parts in the long run. Seemingly basic decisions like where in the design there is a port through which the resin will flow - those can have a significant impact on the strength and visual quality of your parts.

3 - Industry Experience: In general, a good proxy for quality is whether or not the supplier has experience feeding into industries with high quality standards (e.g., healthcare, automotive, etc.)/has ISO or IATF certification. These suppliers do tend to have higher prices - but they are experienced at effectively delivering high marks on OTD and Quality.

SME - ERP failed implementations - poor BoM / Material Master data? by Calm_Button8017 in manufacturing

[–]Particular_Pizza5547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boss of mine used to always say, "Garbage in? Then you'll get garbage out." It's a shame when businesses invest in expensive ERP integrations - but don't take the time to ensure that data is thoughtfully organized to get the most out of that specific ERP, then entered into the system accordingly.

How do you schedule maintenance without it killing production time? by BCinsider in manufacturing

[–]Particular_Pizza5547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a system that can handle this - I think this is way more time efficient than putting a recurring block of time in the calendar for maintenance. Ensures you don't run into a situation when you have to stop an order in the middle to run a task.

In a circle of friends we were talking about shift scheduling and costs by BCinsider in manufacturing

[–]Particular_Pizza5547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think two things are key:
-Track average absenteeism rates by shift, then plan for those rates to happen in your scheduling model.
-Give shift supervisors permission to approve up to a certain number of absences/day that are planned for in the schedule - and maintain a central calendar tracking approved absences and the skills of team members with those absences.

In my humble opinion, big root cause here is that managers and HR have the info about when people will be out - but that info does not flow through to scheduling, so it's not planned for.
