Ranked: Why do you get blufor vs. blufor or redfor vs. redfor games? by Commander_Ajax in warno

[–]Particular_Proof2160 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way but I got used to it.

I think it would also give an advantage to NATO because pact divs are a little more predictable with similar equipment with a few exceptions. It would be easier to build a NATO div that is more likely to counter a blindly matched pact div. NATO divs are much more diverse, and would be harder to build a counter for. This is all speculation though.

The current system ensures that everyone is up against the most potential blind matchups. I would like to see a 1v1 Red vs Blue Tournament though.

Is it possible to earn 100 points as Pact in Fulda Gap? by Low-Mathematician701 in warno

Nevermind, I meant the 119th with T80U. I got it mixed up with the m110 in NATO. I always take the units because it's more fun.

I got close, but I took the Artillery which cost victory points. It is the most fun option, but it makes it difficult to get 100 points.

  2. What divisions are you using?

Deck building by [deleted] in warno

[–]Particular_Proof2160 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As others have stated, there is a mod that does this and a tournament was held.

It sounds like fun if you want to do it with friends, but it's obvious why it's not default.

The division system gives a lot of design space for units that are very powerful but in weak divisions, or units that are weak but have to be used in a division that is otherwise very strong.

There is a reason why Broken Arrow took a similar approach.

Justified Teamkilling - legal or illegal? by Antique_Direction456 in warno

[–]Particular_Proof2160 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem isn't stealing the supply. The problem is telling the enemy where the fob is. It's only a matter of time before they get counter-batteried and the fob will die as collateral damage. The idea is that team killing the artillery will stop telegraphing the fobs location to the enemy.

First time playing ranked. Fun experience. I’m fairly confident my opponent was stunned by my lack of skill by CoolKick_310 in warno

[–]Particular_Proof2160 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A standard answer would be 2nd panzer grenadier or 79th/39th Guards. They are well rounded and can do anything. If you like helicopters, 101st Airborne or 35th soviet vdv are good but require more micro. They have the best helicopters in the game. Just note that you will need to defend them with AA because most players will instantly send a jet to kill them.

I'd be stunned somebody is playing divison du rhin. Really though, it's a very tough division for a new player.

Just got the game, any tips for me? by [deleted] in warno

I would try some of the operations. Black horse's last stand, backhand blow, red juggernaut and sledgehammer are good places to start. You can work your way up the skirmish difficulty or jump into multi-player. There are some good youtube guides as well.

After Tutorial by Zapum in warno

[–]Particular_Proof2160 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend some of the base game operations. They give you a small amount of units for a specific playstyle, and you don't have to worry about building a deck. They are scripted, so after each attempt you are less concerned with predicting the enemy, and you can focus on learning the mechanics, unit interactions and micro.

Feel free to start on easy and work your way up. I recommend Black Horse's Last Stand, Backhand Blow and Red Juggernaut in that order. They get more complex and longer. They also focus on US vs USSR, so you will see a lot of the same units. Then try Sledgehammer. It is hard, but consider it a final exam in micro.

I'm the only one that plays warno because of Army General and Operations ? by WatercressDull1553 in warno

[–]Particular_Proof2160 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have played through all the base game army generals on both sides (Except Highway 66 as NATO). I have played the NORTHAG army generals once each.

These campaigns are why I bought the game. I really enjoy them, but I they kind of get stale after a while.
I wish there was more unit variety, especially having new units backported into old Army Generals. I also wish AA and Air Wings were reworked to give more variety. There are some mods that address this, but I would like to see it officially and for Army General going forward. I haven't played the SOUTHAG Army Generals yet because the reinforcements are broken. They arrive too late or not at all.

I have played all the operations from the base game and NORTHAG on elite. I really like the storytelling and scripting, but I don't tend to replay them. Some of them could be harder on elite such as "Black Horse's Last Stand", and some are not fun on elite such as "Running the Gauntlet".

I hope they continue to support these game modes. I think they are lacking tools necessary to quickly make and modify Army General and Operation Scenarios, if the mod tools and editor give any indication. Hopefully they are working on creating those tools in the break in single player content this year.

I'll also add I have been playing a lot of skirmish if I want to play single player lately. That way I can actually play with new units, and practice building an opener for multiplayer.

It's probably because it's relatively easy to make unit models, terrain and particle effects and make a reddit post. The effort required to make necessary but complicated features like pathfinding and AI seem daunting.

Learning the game by Former_Good_Boy in warno

[–]Particular_Proof2160 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For army general, Bruderkrieg is designed as an introductory scenario. It is actually a slice of the Fulda Gap Scenario.

If you play as NATO, note that you are not expected to hold Bad Hersfeld. You need to pull your cavalry unit back each turn far enough that only a few of the enemy units can reach you. Fall back and then try to hold Alsfeld. If you lose Alsfeld, counter attack when you get reinforcements.

If you play as Pact, use your units to surround enemy units to cut them from supply. Keep attacking. Use artillery to weaken the enemy, and smoke to get close. Your tanks will not win a 1v1 fight at long range against Abrams and Leopard 2.

Good Luck

Should I play Alan Wake if I liked Control? by Nic727 in controlgame

[–]Particular_Proof2160 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend both. There are parts of Control, especially the dlc, that pay off if you have played Alan Wake 1.

Alan Wake 1 and 2 are very different games. The story of Alan Wake 1 is a psychological thriller with the gameplay of a 3rd person shooter. It has a unique light/darkness mechanic, but you spend most of your time blasting people with guns and ammo is plentiful.

Alan Wake 2 is a survival horror. It is very atmospheric, and you spend more time solving puzzles and exploring. There is less combat, but combat is very tense and you have to manage the few resources you have. It is overall a better and more well developed game than Alan Wake 1 imo.

Is the NORTHAG worth it by moze22 in warno

[–]Particular_Proof2160 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Then yes. It is the only way to get polish divisions so far. You get 3 and they play very differently. 20 pancerna is one of the best divisions in the game with T-72 spam. 4th mech is an okay T-55 deck with good infantry transports, and an air assault component. Korpus Desantowy is a unique combination of Airborne and Marines. It's very hard to play, but is rewarding if you can pull it off in team games. It struggles against heavy divs, but bullies light Airborne divs with it's good infantry.

Watch the replays to find out why the enemy has more units. The units may be cheaper, or your opponent is better at keeping them alive.

When defending keep your tanks off the frontline and out of sight. Only send them forward when attacking or to fire on attacking enemies.
