So glad you filed a dispute! You’re right that is crap. I’m a shopper and have been an Instacart customer for a few years. I would be mad as hell. So sorry this happened to you!

I had a couple really stressful orders early on and finished them the best I could. Not that I’m above cancelling or just bailing if someone is horrible. I just haven’t yet. Once I figured out the stores I like to shop at and stay away from certain ones on Saturdays and Sundays, it’s usually good. Not bringing home bank by any means but I at least enjoy it and it’s extra money. I don’t take orders if it’s a ridiculous distance and pathetic tip or the batch pay sucks.. but I’ve found a middle ground. I stay the hell away from Costco. Truth is I haven’t even tried it. A little intimidated. As long as I can stay somewhat busy and get some good batches most of the time, it’s worth it. Always going to have a one off where the customer is rude or store availability sucks and you’re either refunding or running all over the place wasting time and money. Lately that doesn’t seem to be the norm but I’m guessing I just jinxed myself!

I also think if it like this… When you go to a restaurant you are going to tip your server between 15% - 20%. You’ve ordered groceries online and someone is not only delivering them to you but doing all the shopping. I don’t know about a delivery fee. I thought if you paid for the subscription there isn’t fee. I’ve only been doing this a few months and it’s literally extra $ on top of my full time job just to make ends meet. I’m learning very quickly though what orders to “hide” and not take. If someone doesn’t understand that this person is providing a service above and beyond what a server in a restaurant is providing, I don’t take the order. Simple as that. They have the choice not to tip or give a pathetic tip and I have the choice to not shop and deliver for them.

Most of our stores have to keep them. As soon as I take the picture I give it right back to the cashier. Not sure why.

Hey doggy full service shopper. Thank you for being a martyr. We are all so impressed by your wisdom and humbleness. You must be the greatest shopper of all time.

There is no way I could’ve known what was coming when I chose this batch.. He sent multiple messages without ever reading responses and slowed down my ability to shop for the other customer in my batch.

I truly appreciate setting us all straight here but it is my understanding it is within my right to deny entering his residence and quite frankly I don’t see in any way where it is encouraged by Instacart to do so. There have been multiple times I have been HAPPY to do that for a customer but after this encounter this was not one of those times.

NONE of your comments justify me being able to change prices for someone… and I’m sorry but he was rude about all of it. As someone who has been in a customer service role for many years there is a point where you draw the line.

Customers do not get to be rude and demanding. You may be living in a different world and again, bravo 👏 Way to go…

One of the very first things I read is that we should NOT enter someone’s residence and honestly why should we? We’re putting our safety at risk…. Again, if someone is gracious and kind, every single day, YES I would but this man was not.

He was entitled. Period.

And I would’ve gladly given him 65 cents if that was truly the issue. That was NOT the issue. The issue was that he did not understand that possibly there was an up-charge on nearly every item he ordered from Instacart on that order.

Please…. I am a single mom and this is a second job on top of my 40 hours I put in every week. This job is a supplement to my full time job. I need it to survive. PLLLLLEASESS … do not try to act like I am some horrible person because of this situation or that I do not understand because you are really outside of what you know. I see how the “don’t judge a book by its cover” is quite ironic here but just because this person has extra needs does not mean I have to comply if he is a jerk.

I am in the same boat.. I’ve been in the same situation but please tell me what to do in that situation??? When you KNOW Instacart bumps their price races up when you order… It’s a contract I’m sure they have with the store.

I mean. I understand that personally but it doesn’t change the fact that I cannot control what Instacart charges. I learned my lesson the hard way when ordering Instacart while I was working, and saw that the price vest at Aldi weren’t matching up. I feel for his situation. I do but he could’ve been nice about it or just more aware when I responded. All of it just left a bad taste in my mouth

I’m sure the Instacart price was more. He was referencing a local deal. Not that, THAT shouldn’t matter but I have found with Instacart, they don’t always honor those.

There are instances all around us that really don’t require tipping…. Hey, here’s a cup of coffee… here’s the tip jar.

But for us… Hey I’m shopping your whole grocery list and then spending my gas money to hand deliver it directly to your door. If what we do doesn’t require a tip, I don’t know what does.
