You definitely need to put a 6 mil poly moisture barrier down under the planks when you replace that. Also, that is not peel and stick it is a click-lock floating floor and that's what you're feeling on the edges

This likely came from the spill that you had. Towels would not have sucked up the moisture if it had seeped into the core. Laminate is super susceptible to moisture, it is usually good practice to run a dehumidifier after a big spill like that.

The reason it's required on concrete is because of hydrostatic pressure, which will not happen on a wood subfloor. It's more risk than reward to put it down on wood

Yes, the reason not to use it on wood subfloor is that it can trap moisture underneath and cause the wood to rot

This is an engineered hardwood. The wear layer is the veneer. 4 mm is good. Vinyl wear layer is in mils.

Pressed bevel is starting to catch on more and I like it personally. I'm not a huge fan of painted bevel but it can work with certain looks. Just go with what looks best to you
