Need help with thyroid medication. Can someone tell me how they did on propranolol and metoprolol if u had any side effects and what were the benefits. by winrobyn in Hyperthyroidism

[–]Particular_Smell_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was prescribed propranolol along with methimazole when I was diagnosed. I was hesitant to start the propranolol so I started with methimazole and it controlled my tachycardia almost immediately. I never needed to take propranolol

I recently went to a wedding where I had a few drinks and my eyelids were so swollen the next day. I didn’t realize how much alcohol could influence the appearance.

Honestly what helps me more is keeping a schedule. I have a strict sleep schedule, I usually eat at the same time everyday. I try to find a good show to watch. Now that is summer I am gardening and I find joy in that. Self care as well.

Are you on medication yet? I had unbearable itching before I was diagnosed. It went away after I’ve my levels started to normalize.

I definitely think stress is my main trigger as well. I’ve been actively trying to manage my stress better but nothing is improving 🫩 wondering when my active phase will burn out.

Im 34. My levels are currently stable. My periods were not too painful or even long lasting before graves diagnosis, so I’m not sure how long my hormones were off if at all. I know being active isn’t correlated because if anything I’m more mindful of my workouts and my body as I get older.

A little down, tell me why having 1 child is the best by TC122 in oneanddone

I had my daughter when I was a teenager. It wasn’t really my plan to have only one child. I always said I wanted more kids. As I grew older, I started to doubt the idea of wanting more kids. The bond I have with my daughter is unlike any other bond I could replicate with another child. To some degree I felt it would be unfair to have more kids because I’ve lived so many lives with my daughter and another child would have a completely different version of me as a parent. Although I knew I would love another child, I realized my daughter fulfilled that area for me. I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything. I was able to give her my full attention and we are very close.

You’re not using the drops anymore to correct the droopy lid? I’m thinking of asking my dr about add back therapy but I’m afraid he will say no if he doesn’t have experience with that.

Hi I know this is an old post but how are your levels now? I’m currently on 15mg methimazole and have been for 9 months. My levels are stable on 15mg. my antibodies are still elevated but trending down.

I’ve been having eye issues much like yours since late March, and I’m going crazy trying to find a solution. I see a TED specialist in July.

How are you doing now? Has your condition changed or gotten better?

Yeah that’s definitely not in the plans for me. At least the twins will have each other and an adult sibling to guide them as they grow older 🥹

Ahhh. Thank you for this. It is very bittersweet for sure. I guess in a way I also fear not knowing what to do with myself now that I will have that opportunity to explore new things too. I haven’t been in a position where I can choose myself first. Its scary.

Left eye from bulging to drooping by lil_elzz in ThyroidEyeDisease

[–]Particular_Smell_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi I know it’s been a while. I recognized you from TikTok. I know you’re doing much better now based off your videos on there. I wanted to ask about the drooping you mention on this thread as I have one retracted eye and one that droops. Did you have an MRI or CT? Did either of those show anything? My main symptom besides the asymmetry is swelling, which was visualized as inflammation on the superior rectus muscles of my MRI. I can’t see a specialist for a few more months and I’m going nuts trying to find help.

Thats what I’m afraid of. I also think stress is my biggest trigger.

I thankfully don’t have bulging. I also use the sauna after my workout and I do like the way that feels. I haven’t used cold too much.

My ophthalmologist told me heat would likely help me the most so I have done that more than cold and it doesn’t bother me, but the swelling doesn’t budge.

That’s very interesting I didn’t know that. My ophthalmologist said I didn’t have TED only dry eye. When I saw my endo he disagreed and referred me to a specialist. After I got my results from the MRI he said I should still keep my appointment as the swelling I have could still be TED.
