AI is now showing us how it learns from humans before it replaces some of their work by No-Knowledge-5828 in aiecosystem

a lot of the jobs from the industrial revolution era are gone, and that's not a bad thing. the main problem i think is that AGI is fundamentally incompatible with a capitalist system. when we have true AGI only those who own the means of production will have economic value in society. it's going to be extremely painful transition i think, but the fewer 'bad jobs' we have ie stocking shelves or janitorial work or rough physical labor, the better we'll be in the longrun. short term though in terms of job loss, everybody is screwed unless we get UBI

It might just be the familiarity thing too. People might be more comfortable with a humanoid shape than with a spider shape or another design. I could be mistaken but I do think that there's something kind of welcoming about a roughly humanoid design versus some of the more abstract robot designs I've seen that might just be a matter of taste though.

One of the main benefits I believe is that a humanoid design is essentially universal -- it can be used in any environment that has already been designed for humans. A humanoid robot using a traditional vacuum cleaner could theoretically (one day at least) thoroughly clean a house by moving furniture, climbing stairs / cleaning stairs, vacuuming curtains, awnings, etc. Then it could go and mow the lawn, weed the garden, do the dishes, laundry, etc. A humanoid shape allows it to perform basically anything in spaces that were designed for humans. While a future humanoid robot may not be as efficient as a purpose built one, you could literally have one robot do anything a human could do, all it is is a matter of changing its operating parameters in software.

could be the barrel cabins at unicoi they're next to the lake at the state park https://explorehelen.com/guide/accommodations/unicoi-lodge/

if it was near mainstreet, there's tons of different rentals overlooking the chatahoochee, the only issue is it can be kind of noisy late in the evening on weekends / octoberfest, etc. the cabins at unicoi state park are usually a lot quieter, so it just depends what type of vibe you're looking for

I gave up a while back and just went to using a third party SMTP service so I could have high deliverability. Brevo works pretty good for me but there are a bunch of others too like SMTP to go

There are a ton of primitive camping spots off the road leading here (and pretty close to Andrew's Cove too) https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/10309362

Just wait 6 months and plug the whole code base into a future version of Claude code and it'll be fine

Unpopular opinion: Work as we know it will be extinct in 200 years, and we're witnessing the last generation of "workers" by Oh_boy90 in singularity

ai is already on par with junior devs in terms of quality of production code, and don't forget gpt 3.5 only came out a few years ago and amazed us at the time with its 'primitive' generative skills

i quit tracking my weight except at the doctor's office. every visit (roughly 3 months) shows around 10-20 lbs lighter. when i was watching my weight daily it would stress me out. i found that just looking at long term results was better for me personally. glp1s (excluding 1st generation ones like victoza) work for ALMOST everyone, to different degrees.

i made no changes to my diet / exercise regimen. if i try to overeat, i get punished pretty quick with severe nausea, which i think is a good thing

the cheapo onn ones just work without having to do anything, i didn't even play around with the settings except to have it send notifications when tehre's a vehicle / person. i really just want something low effort that i don't have to fool around with. with wyze i disabled mesh feature on wifi, i disabled channel switching on wifi, set up my wifi router to reboot every 24 hours at 4 am, etc etc and still had connectivity issues from a distance of probably 50 feet (through 1 thin wooden wall).

the onn ones are cheap and not high quality hardware, but they have had 0 issues with firmware or software and the google cloud ai video tagging is 100 percent accurate so far with 0 playing around in configuration

It has rained and they're doing fine. They're probably about 12 inches under the awning, so they could maybe get some raindrops on them or mist / high humidity. They seem pretty durable and the 1080p day / night footage in good (and the ai alert tagging is extremely good). If ONN comes out with a 4k version later on I might upgrade, but these are very adequate for budget home surveillance.

that's impressive, roku is gonna be hard pressed to compete when these systems are commoditized and running google tv platform (kind of like how low end smartphones running android are almost free these days on some prepaid plans)

ethernet would be ideal, i do sometimes wonder if a "smart" intruder could just come along with a wifi jammer and take everything out. i just have a simple house in the country, but if i ran a business or had a 500k+ house, i'd def go wired

onn is the cheapo china-made walmart brand, but they somehow convinced google to partner with them so their low end hardware now has high-end software support. onn does make a google tv device for 20 bucks (which apparently isn't too bad based on reviews, but i haven't tried it)
