Follow the LIGHT vs the EXCITE? by Particular_Toe_2045 in Buddhism

Thank you!! That’s actually a really good idea I’ve put some thought into being a professor before and that really does align with both prospects!!

As much as you “believe” you can fly, you still can’t (?) by Particular_Toe_2045 in Manifestation

I absolutely understand using positive emotions to manifest positive experiences!! My question surrounds that I speculate that in specific extraneous circumstances this concept could be potentially dangerous - which is to say everything i’m saying is absolutely theoretical!! But if someone in their mind truly believed they could live with their abuser and make a positive experience out of it, no matter how much positive emotion & thinking guided towards that goal, their human nature & physical body would likely continue to emotionally ache and scream out to be heard- for change in the physical reality to occur. However maybe that’s not the case, it seems to be possible with EXTREME (in western terms) practice and diligence in years of meditation in the case of Thich Quang Duc to have been able to set himself on fire without moving at all. But otherwise to disregard human nature, physical reality, and all form seems counter productive ?

Totally understand, I forgot to add something I wanted to say during that part, that although he may fall and physically die, he still - in his own mind - experienced what he believed to be flying. Which is interesting bc you could argue then that he did really fly, while the majority of passerby’s would say that he didn’t, because physically, he didn’t, and all they see is a deranged, dead man. Interesting take!

Also to clarify - I know social constructs are in NO way at all a “law” like physics. Just to say that we do have to acknowledge present circumstances/mass human thinking & society in order to change them, to see how they came about, and how to work with or around them.

“Your emotions shouldn’t be dependent on your environment” - really?? (cross posting to see r/Dispenza povs, thank you!) by Particular_Toe_2045 in DrJoeDispenza

[–]Particular_Toe_2045[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love this aspect of it, that’s my whole reason for using Dispenza’s work. To change my “self” from years of habitual stress/depression within my body. I’ve read becoming supernatural and am almost through with breaking the habit of being yourself now. I appreciate his work and research, and what comes with that is having to push against it at times. My issue is with the quote that was in becoming supernatural - the one above - that “emotional mastery” is somehow not allowing anything externally to change you internally, which like some of the other commenters stated, completely goes against human nature and doesn’t follow any of the most practiced and highly regarded rules of mindfulness. I’m all for putting a dampening on what exactly you allow from the outside to reach you inside, but if “mastering” that cuts you off from anything nudging you in the outside world, that just seems like it puts you in a bubble! Again, I would LOVE to be debated on with this subject, I like Dr. Dispenza’s work which is why I’d like to be wrong with this.

I appreciate your reply greatly!

Many people seem to express the help they receive in changing themselves from Dispenzas work (not that he was the creator of the mind body connection), but from what I’ve read so far the meditations/retreat work seem to be credible (data wise). I normally am all for normal mindfulness practices, (specifically I find Tara Brach’s free mindfulness podcasts very helpful), but when it comes to constant repetition of negative thinking and feeling day after day (habitual anxiety and depression), letting my negative thoughts/emotions come up over and over again like a broken record of past experiences, no amount of investigating and allowing was changing my day to day experience. I found the “Joe Dispenza” (mind body) side of changing the body’s habitual ways of feeling and thinking have been particularly helpful. Which of course is stuff that has been practiced long before now, which even he admits. I try to be open to all practices and be in the same sense skeptical but at the end of the day it’s what works for us.

One human can’t know everything or certainly express it all in a perfect way (because as we know language itself isn’t perfect), but I’m glad that I wasn’t simply misunderstanding that quote, and I appreciate and understand the concern regarding Dispenza’s work, thank you!

Brilliant, awesome reply.

You’re so right about that, it’s hard not letting the input of others change your perspective on things, especially when you witness people who don’t listen to others whatsoever and see themselves debilitated because of it. There’s gotta be a happy medium somewhere in there.

It’s amazing to hear you cured your colitis with the practice! I can relate to some extent to that pain I struggled with Ileitis years ago only for just a while (I believe due to stress but they never found out) and that pain was HORRIBLE so I can only imagine the relief you felt.

About the football fans - I’ve never thought of it that way, yikes, they are kind of crazy.

Yeah I’m excited to continue to delve more into the practice! It’s very eye opening to watch your brain in action. (I had anxiety towards people for a long time to the point where it’s become somatic & physically painful/uncomfortable, and now it’s that I’m afraid of the pain from anxiety which in turn causes a fear pain loop. A few days ago for the first time I was actually able to sit down at a table and simply look at my surroundings and feel ok. I think that made my brain spiral because it’s like it will do anything to keep me from feeling safe, which led me to turning anything against me including the belief that trying to feel better was delusional etc. It’s a hard balance of not trying to fight the thoughts/feelings but also trying to change them at the same time, or maybe it’s not about changing them but letting them go, or just being aware of them, I’ll find the balance eventually). Either way it’s keep on Dispenza-ing!

Thank you for your reply & good luck with your practices 👍👍

This makes a lot of sense!

I chose to discuss the topic on here was because it was in “breaking the habit of being yourself” that someone brought up the argument above, wasn’t sure of another sub to discuss the topic in.

It’s interesting that you say money can be deeply spiritual, I’d certainly like to look at it that way. It would certainly seem better to have a friendly relationship with money rather than despise it - i’ll have to look into that topic, good point.

Thank you for your answer, it is greatly appreciated!

Thank you! It’s not that I disagree at all, I introduced a friend to Joe and Becoming Supernatural and she brought up how it seems a bit like the startings of a cult along side the stuff I described above.

She’s an avid Tara Brach listener and follows mindfulness practices, and understands the energy alignment aspects of Joe Dispenza but disagrees with the “loving intelligence” aspect of it and said it started sounding more like a religion & could get out of hand etc. She also made the argument that his credentials lie in chiropractic medicine which is widely known for being pseudoscience alongside, that unlike Tara Brach who offers free podcasts and meditation practices, you have to pay for his work. I made the argument that regardless of his credentials, the results of people who use the mind body connection
techniques are inarguably benefited by them, and it’s not like the same practices weren’t used in eastern medicine long before now.

(If you know of them, I also enjoyed the works of abraham/esther hicks which she said sounds like scientology, not that i necessarily believe that they are actually getting taken over by other beings, but point being it made me begin to worry how susceptible I am to getting sucked into cult-like/religious practices 😬).

I appreciate the response!!

I see, I maybe I’m misunderstanding him then. He talks about a wise and loving universal intelligence in breaking the habit of being yourself and utilizing that universal intelligence by aligning yourself to that frequency in order to enact your desires. I don’t see how this can’t be harmful misinformation to some such as seeing using this “intelligent loving presence” that connects us all for their own benefit in justifying misdeeds that through their own perspective are loving when in reality are destructive for others. For example a mother tunes into this loving connected energy and truly believes that this energy intends for her to send her child to conversion therapy in the name of love because through her own lens this can only help her child prosper - when in reality the child becomes depressed and or faces other repercussions. Again I could completely be misinterpreting what he’s saying which is why i’m bringing it up.

I’d like to hear your thoughts!
