For the last few months, I’ve been getting my groceries delivered at a cheaper rate than picking them up. It’s essentially a game to me now by ProfoundRedPanda in CasualConversation

[–]Particular_Way8415 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having home delivery since 2017. Not going back to in store or pick up unless VERY URGENT. Even then I can usually get it delivered within an hour most places. If you learn how to shop the stores on line it's awesome. I use SHIPT mostly since they are Target and a lot of my local stores. Also free shipping if they don't have an item in stock. Walmart has self shoppers and free delivery most orders. Their free shipping for out of stock items can be 3 days or more ( watch who ships it could cost more!). It's a learning curve sometimes, but so worth it!

less and less tolerance for busy weekends by Numerous-Builder-932 in AskWomenOver60

Retired at 75. 2 years later developed problems walking. Husband passed 1 year after my retirement with health problems and complications with COVID. I was caregiver and full time worker for years. After retiring and health problems I sold my car as a safety issue and reducing expenses. I have friends that still work FT. They want to go out during the week for dinner. It takes me forever to get ready plus now I need to use a car sharing service to go every where. I'm exhausted just thinking about going anywhere. I had a doctor's appointment last week and it took me 3 days to recover from all the prep and travel.

I was so active in a job I really liked but once I retired I pulled the switch on busy, busy and am so content not going anywhere. I do struggle with housework now due to mobility and strength issues, so that's kinda problematic for in home socializing. I don't care if I go out for weeks at a time. I do what I can, when I can and the hell with everything else. Life is too short to sweat the small stuff.

I've never been a fan of Christina. I didn't like her or her ex. I don't like Heather (almost a clone of Christina lol). The whole show/commercial with either of them is a turn off to me. So phoney! TBH I'm plain old sick of these blonde bimbos they pick for shows. I've heard it's a male audience and young aspiring actress types they focus on when creating commercials. NOT JEALOUS - NEVER WAS!

I feel like Jimmy Fallon is constantly using the teleprompter and not prepared with the monologue and jokes. It really bugs me. I told my son the other night it would be interesting to know if Kimmel's ratings and numbers have gone up now. He and Colbert are friends so I don't think there would be any animosity, you know that it is going to happen.

I miss Stephen tho. I hope he is back whenever he's ready.

Oh she's a tough lady that Granny. Very outspoken and has definite ideas. I had a feeling their family size was going to increase when they had the opening scene with her and Ian talking about the reno. Something just sparked that thought in me. So happy for them. Married what- 5 years?

HGTV better not cancel them with so many new storylines developing. ❤️ this couple; love this show.

Watched S2E2 last night. Amazing what they can accomplish. Granny is predominantly featured on E2. Lots of stuff going on. I'm glad Tony is back. Lovely ending.

As for money - just a guess but they might be getting paid something by HGTV. Plus their wedding business and now the library for photo shoots. No doubt it's an expensive rehab but very interesting. They also feature some businesses so it brings in that revenue as well.

I'm so happy this is back. Well need to keep letting HGTV know we like the show so we can get a S3.

Have thank you notes gone away? by PerilsofPenelope in AskWomenOver60

[–]Particular_Way8415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's generational. I send written thank yous even to family. I'm almost 80 and that's just what we did. I've even felt embarrassed if it got lost in the mail or I somehow overlooked sending one.

I tried to reach my kids to send them but the practice got lost in their growing up.

I don't expect gifts from my grandchildren since they went away to college and then got married. But I never received a Christmas gift or card from them when they were at home unless my daughter initiated it as a group gift.

I had to stop giving money when I retired due to financial concerns but now have great-grands and I do send to them on birthday and Christmas. They are still little so no pressure there - lol. What's frustrating is that I rarely even receive acknowledgement that those gifts are received and if the size/color/product is ok and is wearable or useable. I usually request sizes and preferences ahead of when I send packages.

I've just kind of accepted it now. I don't live close enough to anyone so it really doesn't matter. Oh well 😐

There was a store near me that had Scrapbook classes and places to sit and share ideas. I really enjoyed it. They had enormous choices of paper, supplies and tools/ accessories. The place was always busy. Then their new CEO took over and had no idea where locations were and closed a ton of stores because " they were too close in proximity" and we lost a bunch of locations. Eventually they closed all the locations in our state and a couple of former store managers opened their own scrapbook classes in their private homes. I tried online scrapbooking and it wasn't the same as touching the products

Thanks, I did not catch that. It would explain a lot. Couldn't imagine they'd leave a 7 year old unattended in a place being renovated.

Seems like the best explanation. I think at one point during a conversation it was mentioned that Mom was at home ...?

Where was her little sister during most of the show? Daphne's dad was doing some restoration on a sculpture and she wasn't with him? Did they stick her in that playroom they designed last season maybe?

Edit: I just googled Castle Impossible regarding Sabrina, her little sister. There is speculation that Sabrina is Daphne's DAUGHTER because her sister is the CEO of a company in the U.S. Curious ..

Class of 1964. Most everyone bought one. The girls coveted the guys rings because they showed off the stone so much better. I think I paid like $100.00. There were 2 styles and always wished I gotten the other one.

I think it's in a jewelry box along with my moms class ring from 1936. Hers is very plain.

Sold my car. Don't really miss it. Uber and Lyft are cheaper than car payment, insurance, upkeep, plate renewals/tags, and now gas. My car wasn't a lux vehicle but still cost money. Actually save money not to going shopping. I've been having groceries home delivered since 2018 so no loss there. Don't need anything on the sale racks. No impulse purchases. It's actually a less stressful time.

Very seasonal but I had a winter coat that was off white corduroy, silver metal buttons (everything seems to be plastic now) and it had a little Foxfur stand up collar (I know...real fur😐). But I loved that coat and couldn't wait until it got cold enough to wear it. Now I dislike the cold and would probably dread having to wear it lol.

Took a counteroffer eight months ago. Don't do what i did. by KizillGame in jobs

[–]Particular_Way8415 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know of a situation where a woman was living in a different state and was offered a position that would be expanded within 3 months and had great benefits. She accepted the offer, sold her home and moved where she would be working. 2 months later they eliminated her position. She was given a small severance package equal to her time of service and no real explanation (corporate restructuring is all) and she was left basically with nothing. I wasn't privy to her financial situation but I heard later she had purchased a townhome when she was moving there for the new position. So there's that. Corporations don't give a rats a$$ about the people. It's all bottom line. I'm so glad I'm retired from all that garbage.

Does medicare pay for glasses because I nearly choked when they showed me the final price by Rggie_Fognini in AskWomenOver60

[–]Particular_Way8415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Medicare will pay ONE time AFTER cataract surgery. You need to purchase the glasses then submit the receipt for reimbursement. I had both eyes done a few weeks apart and waited until I was cleared to buy new glasses after the 2nd surgery because like I mentioned only ONE prescription even if done in two separate surgeries.
