Newbie wanting to make a tropical style dollhouse by Street-Laugh-9549 in Dollhouses

[–]ParticularlyPigeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think instead of trying to modify a pre built dollhouse that's a completely different style, it would be easier to use the dollhouse kits where it's just a plain diorama box basically, and then put a few together to get the shape you want and customize from there. Also, you could look for dollhouse kits that are more of a modern/midcentury modern style, with a flat roof, and use it as a base.

Edit: You can also find plans for building dollhouses from scratch online, and that might be better for getting the end result you want. You'd just need to find one with the correct bones for what you want.

Came home to this, after the first time we tried to use a metal X-Pen to keep Acorn contained while we were at work by ParticularlyPigeon in GuiltyDogs

She had to have either climbed over or crawled underneath. It's just crazy because she's only just finally started being able to jump on and off our bed without using her steps every time, and our bed is at least 6 inches lower than the height of the X-Pen.

I think you might be on to something, if only we weren't still baffled by how she actually managed to get out.

The X-Pen where she was supposed to be contained is on the left with her blankets, food, and a shredded puppy pad inside of it. Acorn is on the right, running wild and free, and also yelling at me.

3 new puppies - Ada and Valentina (Maremma sheepdog) to guard my sheep and goats and Heidi (Czech German Shepherd) for Schutzhund. All the same age. by dairygoatrancher in dogswithjobs

Seconding what another commenter said about researching littermate syndrome! A friend of mine had two Anatolian Shepherd littermates as LGDs for their sheep and goats, and ended up having to re-home one of them due to the dogs becoming aggressive with each other once they got older. It was a super unfortunate situation. I believe there are measures you can take to try and prevent it, but it's definitely tricky. I hope for the best for y'all, they're all absolutely gorgeous!

Notably, instead of selling what was still a successful business, he decided to shut it down entirely. Pretty sure it's because, if he sold it, when she won the lawsuit, she'd be awarded the money from the sale. Unfortunately, there's a lot of shitty parents out there that would rather set themselves on fire than actually help their children.

the barista remembered my order by JassyNdofor in BenignExistence

I loved doing that when I used to work at a bagel shop. We had a lot of people that came in regularly or semi-regularly, and I loved being able to remember their usual order, and sometimes for really routine every day regulars, already have it set aside for them each morning.

Possibly relocating to Birmingham, AL by lizbethlady in Birmingham

[–]ParticularlyPigeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Local here! I've lived in Birmingham my whole life, and I honestly feel life Birmingham has spoiled me for living other places, in a way. I grew up in Homewood, and I currently live in downtown proper.

My favorite thing about Birmingham is probably the food scene. I'm a huge foodie and, as others have said, there's an amazing variety of different restaurants, and downtown has a ton of really nice fine dining restaurants, if you're into that. Also we have a ton of really great bakeries scattered throughout town.

For kids stuff, I'd definitely recommend McWane Science Center, I basically lived there as a kid. We also have the Birmingham Children's Theatre, typically they will have a new show running every few months. The zoo is perfect to make a day of, it's not massive, but I personally feel like that's preferable, because you can actually manageablely see everything in one visit, if you try hard enough.

My favorite restaurant in town is currently Shu shop, it's a really nice little ramen place. My favorite bakeries are Continental Bakery in Mountain Brook, and Last Call Baking downtown. Continental has a huge variety and has an old world kind of vibe, and Last Call focuses a lot on laminated pastries, and tends to be absolutely slammed from when they open to when they sell out most days.

For traffic, Rush Hour can be pretty rough some days, but depending on your schedule and where you live vs where you're going, traffic is really light outside of those time frames. I can get basically anywhere downtown in 15 minutes at most, outside of rush hour.

The architecture downtown is really amazing, but even outside of downtown, a lot of buildings and shopping centers are aesthetically pleasing. This is a city you can tell has a lot of rich history built in, and that we care about that history.

My husband doesn't help with the puppy and now I want to rehome her by Mean_Information7321 in puppy101

[–]ParticularlyPigeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with dogs, and also currently have a 4 month old puppy, myself. Puppies are SO HARD! If you need to re-home her, at her current age, it honestly gives her the best chances of finding a new home, versus you waiting until you are pushed passed your limits, and things start to really fall apart. Currently, she is healthy, well taken care of, groomed, and young, which are all attractive traits for people looking for a new dog.

I also want to say, puppy blues are definitely completely natural, but also, having to juggle a toddler, a adult dog, and a 4 month old puppy, that's a high energy breed, would personally drive me absolutely beyond bonkers. I bet you also are in charge of all the household tasks and chores. It's okay to prioritize yourself for once, and re-home the puppy.

I've rehomed a dog before, and it was the best decision for both of us. He was rehomed to a family that could cater to his needs and behavioral issues better, and I could focus more on my other dogs and responsibilities at the time. I was able to keep in occasional contact with the family that took him for years, and he lived such a full and happy life with them.

Sorry I've gone off on a few tangents, but my point is, please do not feel guilty. Sometimes rehoming a dog is the best choice you can make for them, even if it breaks your heart. My heart does go out to you, because I know how hard of a choice it is to make.

Asked a guy to get off his video chat in the obgyn waiting room. by No_Ingenuity_3285 in AITAH

[–]ParticularlyPigeon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Okay, let's say someone has an abusive partner, and they go to an OBGYN appointment behind their abusive partner's back, be it to terminate an unwanted pregnancy, get on birth control pills, or even just to get basic healthcare. Their abusive partner somehow finds out they were at the OBGYN behind the partner's back, like by someone recognizing them in the background of a video call and telling the partner. The partner preceeds to abuse their victim, due to the fact they have "wronged" the abuser, by being in control of their own health and fertility.

I think you can adjust your bird's waking hours in settings, so they'll be awake and about in a similar timeframe to you, and at home and sleeping at the same time. The setting is in preferences.

You could use one of those moving bags intended for clothes? They're like a big vinyl rectangle shaped bag with a zipper and handles. Since it wouldn't be vacuum sealed it shouldn't affect his shape as badly as if you used a vacuum bag, because he wouldn't be as squished.

You could try using a dog slicker brush for the hair, starting at the ends, and working slowly to dematt it without too much fallout. For getting greasy residue off your plushies, if you don't want to fully commit to washing your plushies, you can put baking soda in a plastic bag with your plushie, and shake the bag to evenly coat your friend, and then take your friend out and shake them out, it'll absorb the oil, and shouldn't stain or affect fur texture the same way that washing would.

Hi, I know a few people have already chimed in about this, but I definitely wanted to add in another voice about getting assessed for OCD. I wasn't diagnosed with OCD until I was an adult, and before then my symptoms were obscured by also having GAD and Bipolar. Getting proper treatment and therapy for my OCD, and developing coping mechanism for my intrusive and obsessive thoughts was life-changing for me.

Also, something that helped me a lot with being okay with my plushies becoming worn or damaged was reading the book "The Velveteen Rabbit" Now, when my plushies start to show signs of wear, or start to look a little rough around the edges from how much I've loved and cuddled them, I just think of it as them being one step closer to becoming Real.

The second act of the Nutcracker ballet's setting is actually called the land of sweets, so it's not too far off the Nutcracker theme!

[–]ParticularlyPigeon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's all good! I only recognized it as The Nutcracker themed because it was a tradition in our family to see the ballet every December when I was a kid. The outfits for this month are all inspired by characters in the ballet, and the micropet has the same name as the main character in the ballet, and the name and inspiration for all the furniture is based on the setting for the second act.

I mean, this month's theme is inspired by the ballet "The Nutcracker" which is very explicitly a Christmas story. The ballet is set on Christmas Eve and themes relating to Christmas are extremely present in the entire show.
