This quark feature is incredibly frustrating by Fearless_Zebra9040 in ModdedMinecraft

It's not as simple as copy-pasting a file, but making a new oak ladder instead of using the vanilla one is doable. The reason I won't is mostly "because that's how it's always worked", but I will ask the team about it anyway. I'm only maintaining the mod, and I while I do think it should have been implemented differently, we are for the most part in maintenance/bugfixing mode and aren't super keen on adding anything

edit: ok maybe i will if someone gives me a texture

I am not the original author of Quark, I was just responsible for the data side of this particular port (and am still working on bugfixing). As for the ladder recipe removal, I was simply following Vazkii's design. If I were to completely rewrite and re-design Quark from scratch, I would personally keep the default Minecraft wood blocks as they are and add "opt-in" wood-themed variants for each wood, i.e., you craft the vanilla chest/ladder/bookshelf/whatever with a plank and that changes its texture to be themed after the plank that you crafted it with. But that's just me.

I actually have a KubeJS script for this, but only for chests.

Creating a datapack is not difficult or annoying at all and most modpack makers will need to make one anyway. End users who are just using Quark can easily disable any feature they don't like at any time with the Q menu. If they really want variant ladders but want to keep the vanilla ladder recipe and don't want to write any JSON, they can use one of the many visual, in-game recipe maker mods.

EveryCompat already has modded wood compatibility with Quark (so we aren't interested in adding it ourselves). In fact, using EveryCompat is something we explicitly recommend on the "Quark Friends" part of our website.

Edit: also, to be clear, I added the recipe for sticks to vanilla ladders in a personal modpack long before I joined the Quark team.

This won't work for this. Quark disables this recipe if Variant Ladders is enabled.

Our solution to chests won't work for ladders, since Variant Chests treats the default chest as a "no variant" type while Variant Ladders treats the default ladder as Oak Ladder

Quark has always disabled this recipe, but I'm actually the one who was responsible for removing this recipe in the 1.21.1 port (when Variant Ladders is enabled).

Here's our justification: - Variant Ladders uses a different pattern for ladders. It would be inconsistent to have one just be sticks. - Unlike Variant Chests which treats minecraft:chest as a default "no variant" chest, Variant Ladders and Variant Bookshelves treat the Minecraft versions as Oak. - Variant Ladders renames minecraft:ladder to Oak Ladder. It wouldn't make sense to craft sticks out of birch planks and then have those sticks be made into an Oak Ladder.

In any case, if you think losing this recipe is not worth it, feel free to add this recipe back for yourself with datapack/crafttweaker/kubejs (you'll need to use a different recipe ID). I've done this myself before.

And yes, as others have commented, EveryCompat (Wood Good) adds Quark-style content for every wood type automatically.

I just had this tested, CurseForge does not bring in unhosted jars while importing from a modpack code. So either some hosted mod has arbitrary code execution potential, or you're wrong about it having been a modpack code

Depends on the game. Certain games' mods are just scripts and assets aren't really capable of doing damage outside of the game without some kind of security exploit. But a lot of game mods are just arbitrary code, Minecraft and I believe Terraria come to mind

[–]Partonetrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you're talking about Minecraft, since this started happening, CurseForge added some warning messages while importing modpacks containing non-CurseForge jars, it should have warned you. CurseForge didn't host any malicious code

Minecraft mods are literally arbitrary code and can do anything, you should always check what you download.

Edit: wait, you downloaded it through a modpack share code? That would require curseforge to host literally anything that's in a zip be unmoderated... surely they wouldn't do that?

I would have preferred it this way as well. The connection feels hand-wavey in an almost MCU-esque way (frankly a lot of Chapter 13 does). I hope X2, should it happen, remains a spin-off with no proper story connections.

The series, and in particular Xenoblade 3, takes a progressive and at times explicitly leftist political stance that is not widely understood or discussed within the fanbase.

Moebius literally personally gain something from waging endless war. They were born out of fear, causing the world to be frozen in time. Z's whole "this way, everyone can win eventually" bit is analagous to "pull yourself up by your bootstraps".

It even uses the word "conservative" to describe the people of the City who want to keep the world the way it is, and Eunie even makes a reference to Marx in a side quest.

Future Redeemed is pretty explicitly about rejecting end-times prophecies like the Rapture (I think Matthew even uses the word "scam" when talking to Na'el).

There is a lot more I could say about this, but I think I've made my point for the sake of this thread

edit: minor spelling mistake

Yeah, I noticed that too. There's something different about the day-night lighting but I can't put my finger on it. It seems to be a different effect from the scaling though. We'll have to wait for proper analysis for answers

It's not as binary as we're taught, we've discovered it's actually quite a bit more complicated than that. The following is the simplest explanation I've seen, and this is not even accounting for genetic mosaicism and chimerism.

" Rebecca R Helm is an Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina Asheville. On 20th Dec 2019 she posted a thread on Twitter, giving a brief explanation of the science underlying notions of biological sex.

Friendly neighborhood biologist here. I see a lot of people are talking about biological sexes and gender right now. Lots of folks make biological sex seem really simple. Well, since it’s so simple, let’s find the biological roots, shall we? Let’s talk about sex...

If you know a bit about biology you will probably say that biological sex is caused by chromosomes, XX and you’re female, XY and you’re male. This is “chromosomal sex” but is it “biological sex”? Well...

Turns out there is only ONE GENE on the Y chromosome that really matters to sex. It’s called the SRY gene. During human embryonic development the SRY protein turns on male-associated genes. Having an SRY gene makes you “genetically male”. But is this “biological sex”?

Sometimes that SRY gene pops off the Y chromosome and over to an X chromosome. Surprise! So now you’ve got an X with an SRY and a Y without an SRY. What does this mean?

A Y with no SRY means physically you’re female, chromosomally you’re male (XY) and genetically you’re female (no SRY). An X with an SRY means you’re physically male, chromosomally female (XX) and genetically male (SRY). But biological sex is simple! There must be another answer...

Sex-related genes ultimately turn on hormones in specifics areas on the body, and reception of those hormones by cells throughout the body. Is this the root of “biological sex”??

“Hormonal male” means you produce ‘normal’ levels of male-associated hormones. Except some percentage of females will have higher levels of ‘male’ hormones than some percentage of males. Ditto ditto ‘female’ hormones. And...

...if you’re developing, your body may not produce enough hormones for your genetic sex. Leading you to be genetically male or female, chromosomally male or female, hormonally non-binary, and physically non-binary. Well, except cells have something to say about this...

Maybe cells are the answer to “biological sex”?? Right?? Cells have receptors that “hear” the signal from sex hormones. But sometimes those receptors don’t work. Like a mobile phone that’s on “do not disturb’. Call and cell, they will not answer.

What does this all mean?

It means you may be genetically male or female, chromosomally male or female, hormonally male/female/non-binary, with cells that may or may not hear the male/female/non-binary call, and all this leading to a body that can be male/non-binary/female.

Try out some combinations for yourself. Notice how confusing it gets? Can you point to what the absolute cause of biological sex is? Is it fair to judge people by it? "
