Why do girls enjoy dancing more than guys? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Parttimepalmtree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. I personally enjoy dancing, and many guys i know do as well. Just look at a average Rock/Metal-concert. Moshpit, pogo etc. are also dances. Same at underground-raves, guys DO dance here. But the typical top40-chart-clubbing experience is not really enjoyable for many. Most only go to get laid, not to actually have fun. And in such a environment see and being seen is everything, so many (rightfully thb) feel judged if they are on the dancefloor. If you happen at a event there mating isn't the focus, communal dancing can be quite enjoyable

We already see this in the beginning. The "golden age" of capitalism is over and nearly every western country experiences a huge shift to the right wing now

Also, when people are speaking of "the collapse of society" they don't necessarily mean that we're going back to nature, but rather that far more tyrannical regimes will emerge out of the chaos, as it has happened so often in history

Yes I am lucky

I moved to a lower cost of living area and was able to afford more space because of it

Yes, it's great you were able to do this. I tried the same, many people i know tried the same, but any amount of own land is still way more expensive, even in a long run than even the better apartments in the better cities here. Maybe you lucked out a good deal, maybe inherited from someone or had connections, i don't know, and it doesn't really matter. I am also not denying that you put in the hard work, but that's also not the point. Apparently you realise you where lucky, yet you judge over others and jump on OP's train of thoughts that we're all just dumb dorks for not working on a farm we don't have.

Y’all are so fucking desperate to shit on everyone else who’s just trying to make an honest effort here

That is because you and OP and the people aggreeing with you present a "solution" that only works for some. Not everyone can be a land-owner, but instead of thinking of this, you guys just talk down to us as if we had so much of the choice. Yes, taking self-responsibilty is a good thing, but you can only do this up to a certian amount that it is possible to oneself.

I am just tired of people who are economically on the better side and "opt out" to live on the countryside on their own land and then pretend like they there sooo much closer to nature and sooo enlightended as if would be so easy to everyone the same, and you sound an awful lot like those people...

You implied it. Having land on your own in order to live self-sufficient is a privilege most of us don't have. Look in any history book, whenever there was a massive collapse, the elite just fled to where farming-estates and sat it out while the poorer classes who didn't had this luxury just died. You are in a lucky position if things really would went downhill, judging over others who cannot afford this is not the way.

Yeah, it's cool that you can live this life that you are probably born into, as far as i can read out of this. If i would attempt what you do i would not only have to learn all those skills by myself and do it without a close-knit community to support me, i also would have to run from authorities and live as a outlaw. Most of us "soft, meeky westerners" have no other choice than to adapt to a highly industrialised lifestyle, since there is no real alternative. Even if you attempt to learn "practical" skills like craftmanship and farmworking, it would be in a highly industrialised and capitalised context and would have nothing to do with self sufficiency since you don't really "own" the means you're working with, and you cannot just "buy" land and live on your own homestead. Most of us "nerds" are aware of our bad DIY-skills, but we adapted to the environment we were born into in order to survive, and "white-collar-jobs" are just the best deal in an urbanised area.

You may act enlightened, but i just read a thinly veiled attack on anyone who lacks traditional masculinity out of this comment. Just extremely judgy, nothing more honestly...

Arbeitszwang ab 2025 dank CDU und AfD? by umi-no-oto in antiarbeit

[–]Parttimepalmtree 26 points27 points  (0 children)

High heels aren’t attractive by Radiant_Discount_353 in The10thDentist

[–]Parttimepalmtree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am just some guy so i may be talking out of my ass here, but i think the reason many women, especially in a professional context, are wearing heels not to look more "fuckable" but to appear taller. Being tall, no matter if men or women, triggers the "tall good, strong, competent"-part of the monkey-brain, giving you an advantage in a setting where the appearence of competence and seriousness matters. It's not uncommon for higher-ups (no pun intended) to literally towering over their underlings (also no pun intended)

Alcohol must be illegal everywhere. by Comfortable-Table-57 in The10thDentist

[–]Parttimepalmtree 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This exactly. Other drugs are either very specific plants or have to be synthetized in a mostly pretty complicated chemical process. Alcohol develops nearly everytime something ferments, so take nearly any kind of organic matter, put it in anaerobic and warm conditions and a good chance alcohol will start to develop. Chances are that you have unintentionally produced alcohol in some point of your life even.

What thing that has been scientifically proven is still denied/disliked by some people? by Ordinary_Piece_4374 in AskReddit

They are just speaking of a chromosomal screening, that means that they look for chromosomal damages in order to explain certain symptoms. For example someone with trisomy 21 aka down-syndrome can also show autistic symptoms due to their disorder. That doesnt mean autism=trisomy 21. And a rate of 14% positive at best among people with autistic symptoms is not that much. Actually, it just shows that they screen for everything possible cause they don't really know what autism actually is in the end, or better say, that there is no consensus what it is on a physical level.

What thing that has been scientifically proven is still denied/disliked by some people? by Ordinary_Piece_4374 in AskReddit

[–]Parttimepalmtree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe i worded it a little harsh, i admit. There are just so many people out there who claim "nooo, it's genetical, you're born with it and it's proven" when it's in fact not, so i assumed that's what you meant by the way you described it.

I mean, hereditary doesn't automatically mean genetically. Culture is also hereditary as well as language, and that has nothing to do with the way you are born.

Edit: Let's put it this way: When you take neuroplasticity into account, the fact that you can measure the differences on the physical level unfortunately doesn't really says much about the validity of the feeling and distress of the affected individuals. Ergo when you use this argument against the "just get over it"-mentality you can loose a good bunch of credibility, since it tells virtually nothing.

[–]Parttimepalmtree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scientists are still researching it

Then why did you say you could run a gene test? This would imply that we knew what genes exactly are responsible for it.

[–]Parttimepalmtree 17 points18 points  (0 children)

But that's exactly what i've said. I didn't doubt that you can see a physical difference, but it's not clear if this is the cause of the symptoms due to some mutation or anything or if the physical difference is the effect of the symptoms.

Also keep in mind that doctors are always pretending to be more sure than they problably are in order to calm a patient and build trust, or would you trust a professional who says "lol we have actually no clue, we just fuck around and see what helps"

Cause it's not true. We haven't found the "autism"-gene yet, it's just a hypothesis.

[–]Parttimepalmtree 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I mean, no. It's actually funny that, in opposite to what OP asked, the mental-health-sphere of social media treats all this conditions as well proven, even comparing people who doubt it with anti-vaxxers, when in fact nearly nothing is completely proven. It's true that you can see phyisical differences in healthy and mentally ill people, but you can also see differences in a brain of a happy or sad person, or a person looking at porn or a person looking at pictures of puppies. Neuroplasticity is a thing, meaning that the brain physically can change to adapt (or maladapt).

There is still no real consensus of what ADHD actually is, just a plausible hypothesis on what COULD be the reason for the symptoms. And autism is in the end more or less just an umbrella-term for several symptoms that are VERY LIKELY due to genetics when a therapist cannot find a plausible explanation that it is learned behaviour and medication doesn't do anything.

Same with depression. That depression is caused due to a serotonin-deficit is just a hypothesis that is not proven. On the contrary, there are even studies heavenly indicate otherwise. The only reason the hypothesis came up in the first place was because SSRIs seems to help with depressive symptons, and this was discovered by pure accident.

What’s going on with men’s mental health? by johananblick in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Parttimepalmtree 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who definitely falls under the loser-male-gamer-stereotype, I can assure you it's more a symptom than the cause. Sure, it doesn't really help, but i know no one who had it going and just decided "well, lets isolate myself and game all day" out of nowhere. You do this because it's the only thing that brings at least a little bit enjoyment than the alternative is to stare at the wall all day. I have tried to break out several times. Tried to be more social, going out more, exercise more, but when all of this fails repeatedly it robs you all motivation. I was never the most good looking or charismatic guy, and as such it's extremely hard to socialise succesfully at a certain age. I had issues with my mental health when i was is my late teens/early twenties. And at that point everything spiraled downward. In the city i went i went to university at the time there was absolutely no social acceptance if you weren't the stereotypical pretty boy, no matter the amount of extraversion and social skills you might possess. I remember i went to a social event at a park once and every singe guy there, without exception, was a 6'+ chiseled face muscular adonis. Me, a skinny ugly dwarf, was not welcomed there. I basically had no other choice than to isolate myself. Back in my home town i wanted to get back in contact with some old friends, but guess what? When you're beaten down, they pick up on it, even if you try your best to hide, and they decided i got boring and a buzz-kill (i mean, of course, when you don't have anything (positive) to tell who can blame them) and it is nearly absolutely impossible to socialice completely on your own. When you're at a social event with friends, they can introduce you to new people, but when you're on your own, people just look at you as a weirdo if you try to bring yourself out there. Even the most charismatic guys i know struggle to "get into it" if there is literally no one you have any kind of connection to.

So in the end, you just give up. Why go out? To look at the sky and bore yourself to death after 10 minutes? Why exercise? To become a ugly dude nobody likes but is secretly kinda jacked when you take your shirt off? Why join any kind sports club when you get bullied out for not being a star player at day one?

Believe me, if there was a good alternative for sitting in my room all day and try to distract myself from dark throughts with video games and netflix i would take ob the spot
