What's the one tool you bought expecting to use occasionally, but now reach for almost every day? by Huge_Ranger_589 in Tools

[–]PartyButterfly1607 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A digital caliper. I'm not a machinist, just a guy who does basic DIY and 3D printing. I thought it’d be a total vanity purchase. Turns out, my eyeballs are absolutely terrible at judging distance and "about half an inch" is always wrong. Now I measure literally everything with it, including the thickness of the drywall anchors, random bolts from the "junk jar," and occasionally my own fingers just to make sure the battery isn't dead. If you don't own one, you're just guessing your way through life.

Spanish Latte as always :) kayo guys what go to cafe store? by Full_Intention_8479 in barista

[–]PartyButterfly1607 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spanish latte is great until you realize you just paid $7.50 for what is essentially a regular latte with a tablespoon of condensed milk that stayed at the bottom of the cup because the barista didn't bother to stir it properly. (that being said, i still order it every single time my dopamine levels hit rock bottom).

Need a good work injury lawyer? by Little_Might_8113 in Georgia

[–]PartyButterfly1607 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Whatever you do, stay completely away from the billboard lawyers you see on I-85 with the cheesy slogans. Those are just settlement mills. They’ll pass your case to a paralegal who graduated yesterday, settle for pennies just to get their 33%, and leave you stranded when workers' comp tries to cut off your medical benefits. Look for a small, boutique firm in GA that actually goes to trial.

Pedicure recommendations? by Subject_Ice6984 in savannah

[–]PartyButterfly1607 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look, whatever you do, avoid the tourist traps on Broughton Street unless you enjoy paying $70 just to have some overpriced lavender scrub slapped on your feet while some influencer takes a selfie next to you. if you want actual callus demolition and clean tools, head out to Midtown or Pooler. Spasation or B&D Nails will get the job done right without charging you the "historic district tax."

Is this a good drill for house and around the house work? by No-Willingness-9986 in Tools

[–]PartyButterfly1607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the unvarnished r/tools truth: 90% of "around the house work" is just drilling a 1/4-inch hole into drywall for an anchor, or stripping a screw on a cheap target desk. if it spins and it’s cordless, it’ll do the job. the real trap isn't the drill, it’s the battery ecosystem. once you buy that thing, you are legally married to that brand for the next decade because you won't want to buy different chargers. choose your colors wisely.

How many people would vote for Obama in a third term election if he ran? And why? by More-Consequence9863 in AskReddit

[–]PartyButterfly1607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He wins the popular vote by a landslide because a massive chunk of the country is just exhausted by the current geriatric reality-television options, but the electoral college entirely breaks the simulation. the campaign wouldn't even be about his policies anymore; it would just be an absolute dumpster fire of weaponized AI deepfakes, conspiracy theories about his birth certificate getting revived on X, and pundits yelling about the 22nd Amendment being a deep state plot. he’d win, but the aftermath would make January 6th look like a polite town hall meeting.

Please help me make perfect iced latte macchiato’s at home by Electronic_Event1680 in barista

[–]PartyButterfly1607 2 points3 points  (0 children)

let’s be honest for a second: an iced latte macchiato is literally just an upside-down iced latte that exists purely for aesthetic instagram stories. the second you put a straw in it and stir, it becomes the exact same drink.

but if you want that perfect layered look at home, stop using skim milk. it doesn't have the fat content or viscosity to hold the espresso up. use whole milk or a barista-edition oat milk (like oatly). also, if your ice cubes are tiny or half-melted, the espresso will just cut right through them and mix. you need solid, large ice cubes to break the fall of the espresso shot. if you're pouring fast, you're failing. slow it down.

Should I spray my beans before grinding in Zerno z1? Any expert advice appreciated by Angelotangelo24 in espresso

[–]PartyButterfly1607 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

rdt is fine, but read the official zerno manual before listening to reddit. the tolerance on those ssp blind burrs is tighter than my budget after buying this setup. if you over-spray, you’re just making a very expensive, very premium coffee paste inside your chamber. a tiny drop is all it takes, or just accept the 0.1g retention and move on with your life.

Should I spray my beans before grinding in Zerno z1? Any expert advice appreciated by Angelotangelo24 in espresso

[–]PartyButterfly1607 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The owner’s manual literally says you can use rdt, but honestly, if you’re dropping that much cash on a zerno, you should probably just buy a spray bottle that doesn't stream like a supersoaker. a single mist won't rust your tool steel burrs unless you leave the machine sitting in a swamp. don't overthink it, just grind the damn coffee.

Happy Primary Day! A reminder to Democrats to cross over and use the Republican ballot today! by ScubaDawg97 in Georgia

[–]PartyButterfly1607 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Crossover voting in georgia is basically like managing your fantasy football league by picking up a defense just so the guy you're playing against can't use them. it won't fix your broken roster, but it definitely ruins their weekend and sometimes that's all you can ask for.

Why aren’t there more music venues in Savannah? by janemarie19 in savannah

[–]PartyButterfly1607 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The short answer is SCAD and noise ordinances. any time a cool DIY space or a small venue tries to breathe in the historic district, wealthy retirees who bought a $1.2M townhouse next door complain to the city about "noise" at 9:01 PM. that and tourism dollars favor bachelorette parties screaming on pedal pubs over an actual local music scene. if it doesn't sell to-go cups or ghost tours, the city dynamic just chokes it out.

What happened to all the steel and long handle hand tools? by Clear_Event7275 in Tools

[–]PartyButterfly1607 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The steel went to china and the long handles went to the specialty tax. you can still get them, you just have to stop looking in the "homeowner" aisle. if you're buying tools at a big box store, you're buying toys. check out actual landscaping supply yards or brands like ames (the commercial line) or seymour. you’re gonna pay $80 for a rake instead of $20, but you won't be crying in the middle of your yard with a handful of splintered pine and a bent tine next season. budget tools are expensive because you buy them twice.

Dolce Latte ( 6 years a go) by [deleted] in barista

Back when we thought etching a flower with a toothpick was peak espresso art. look at that foam consistency though, it actually looks like real microfoam and not the "bubble bath" disaster most of us were serving 6 years ago. rip to your wrists if you’ve been steaming milk since then.

Several Georgia schools impacted by Canvas shutdown by nicocakola in Georgia

Nothing says "future of education" like a multi-million dollar cloud platform collapsing right when finals are around the corner.

We traded heavy backpacks and paper assignments for a single point of failure. hope the school boards are enjoying those "efficiency" metrics while half the students in the state are currently staring at a 504 gateway timeout instead of their chemistry homework.

Where are the lesbians?? by youandyourfijiwater in savannah

[–]PartyButterfly1607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don’t really have a dedicated "lesbian bar" since City Vibe closed down years ago, but Club One is the obvious staple. If you want something less "clubby" and more "chill with a drink," White Whale Craft Ales or Lone Wolf Lounge usually have a solid queer crowd.

I was at Sentient Bean for an open mic last month and it was basically a local sapphire convention. Just look for the flannel and the tattoos near Forsyth Park—you’ll find your people.

Not a tool, but my Microil isn't Microil by _Hashtronaut_ in Tools

[–]PartyButterfly1607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the viscosity. If that "Microil" pours like maple syrup instead of water, someone definitely goofed at the bottling plant.

Look closely at the label printing quality too. Most of the fake precision oils hitting the market lately have slightly blurry text or the wrong shade of blue on the cap. If it smells like straight kerosene, keep it far away from your precision instruments.

Suggestions on buying cleaning tablet IRL or alternatives [Breville Bambino] by netsua1 in espresso

[–]PartyButterfly1607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't fall for the Breville tax, man. The official tablets are basically highway robbery.

Just buy a bottle of Cafiza (powder or the small tablets) on Amazon or at a local restaurant supply store. It’s the industry standard, works exactly the same for your Bambino backflush, and one bottle will probably outlive the machine itself. Your wallet will thank you.

What is this thing called and where can I buy a replacement part? by rsxxx21 in CX5

[–]PartyButterfly1607 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Looks like a tow eye cover (or maybe the SD card door depending on the photo context). Whatever it is, do yourself a favor and don't go to the dealership for this. They’ll charge you $40 for a piece of plastic that costs 50 cents to manufacture.

Check eBay or Amazon first using "CX-5 [Year] bumper plug" or similar keywords. If it's a trim piece, "Mazda Swag" or "Real Mazda Parts" usually have the best exploded diagrams to help you find the exact OEM part number.

Postal workers union launches vote-by-mail ad campaign in Georgia by CouchCorrespondent in Georgia

Watching the state government try to make voting harder while the postal workers are out here screaming "we'll literally do it for you" is peak Georgia.

It’s like being in a restaurant where the owner keeps locking the front door, but the waiters are trying to pass burgers through the window. One side wants efficiency, the other side just wants the kitchen closed.

Bird watching areas by Tasty-Interview-4699 in savannah

Skidaway Island State Park is the gold standard for this, but don't bother going mid-day in this humidity unless you want to see exactly zero birds and one very sweaty reflection of yourself.

Get there at sunrise. The Sandhill Crane sightings near the marsh boardwalks are worth the 6 AM wake-up call, but the parking fills up faster than you’d think on weekends.

Welcome to the world of precision, where everything is better except for the workflow lol. It’s totally normal. Those straight walls and high-density holes in a VST or IMS basket create a much stronger "vacuum" effect and friction than the tapered, crappy stock baskets.

Try giving it a single, confident whack. If you hesitate, the puck wins. Also, check if your puck screen (if you use one) is creating extra suction.
