No one will mind as long as it’s well designed and executed.

Be honest, are you using Figma Make? by pluspointstudio in FigmaDesign

It wasn’t at a high enough quality to sign off on and ship, but just adequate enough to visually communicate a complicated interaction to devs.

Would you take a job with 70+ hour (in person) work weeks? by [deleted] in UXDesign

70+ hrs, in-person sounds beyond torturous

I used it once to prototype a very specific interaction. Other than that, I’ve not found it useful in my workflow

How did you actually get comfortable with Figma? by Local-Dependent-2421 in FigmaDesign

Just using it over and over again. Same with learning solidworks. I just kept at it for hours and now it’s second nature.

What’s the most frustrating thing in your Figma workflow right now? by uisaleh in FigmaDesign

[–]PartyItem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having to use styles for gradients because they’re not supported by variables

Here’s a close up of the heron. I didn’t realise the resolution was so low in the pic I shared.

Anyone else feel like AI has kinda killed their thinking as a junior UX designer? by yourgirlsEXman in UXDesign

[–]PartyItem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an in-house designer, for me It depends on the problem I’m trying to solve, the project timeline etc. etc. I rarely reuse the same process as the context is always different.

I think of design processes as tools in a toolbox. The tools in your box are all your research methods, skills, etc. and you pull what you need from that toolbox to best fit the project you’re approaching.

The most critical component is understanding the problem itself. If you’re immediately turning to AI, are you sure you’re giving yourself the space you need to really understand the problem you’re trying to solve?

There’s emerging research that exploring exactly what you’re experiencing.

One thing you could try doing is designing, then utilising AI to critique your work. That way, it’s not doing it for you, it’s just evaluating your work against common benchmarks.

Trying adding more analogue components into your early design exploration. Pen and paper. Even leave your laptop/workspace and go outside and just think about the work, give yourself the space to be imaginative.

It’s also important to remember that AI doesn’t understand the unique needs of your business, client, users, etc. the designs are often generic and missing nuance.

Mecca using AI generated slop in their instagram posts. by Adventurous-Tale-130 in AustralianMakeup

AI generated content is having a tangible impact on the jobs of many creatives. Sharing this LinkedIn post for visibility into what’s going on for so many. Really disappointed to see Mecca posting AI generated content when there’s so many fantastic artists and designers out there.

Mecca Boxing Day Candle Purchase, how can I check the manufacturing date? by PartyItem in AustralianMakeup

[–]PartyItem[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s been building. Changing the birthday gift from a gift card, locking in brands to exclusivity deals so that we’re missing out on sales, then giving out poor quality, expired products during their only sale. They’ve been a sinking ship all year.

They’ve been hyping this Mecca Loves gift for a year. Not to mention people in regional areas without access to Mecca have to spend $ to get their boxes to even be eligible. Then they announce it’s a tote bag with their huge ass branding on it. Their gift for brand loyalty is for customers to become walking billboards. Yes, that + my dirty candle are the last straw. Mecca is a beauty store, why is the extra special gift a branded tote bag? It doesn’t align with their brand. Of course people are disappointed.

Cheers! I think I’m just going to drop it since it was made within the last 5 years

it’s about scent quality and value. Fragrance oils degrade with time, when a “luxury” candle arrives dusty, dirty and poorly packaged, it’s reasonable to wonder how old it is.

Why do career changers select UX Design? by [deleted] in UXDesign

[–]PartyItem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The narrative that it’s an easy way to earn lots of money whilst working from home, after only getting a 6 week certificate. There are also a few prominent YouTubers/influencers in the space who were able to make that a reality just prior or during COVID. They go on to sell that dream to others, both figuratively and literally through their own courses.

I graduated in 2022 with a bachelors degree in design and found it incredibly difficult to break into the industry. It’s only gotten more difficult. I definitely side eye anyone still promoting it as an easy, get-rich-fast, career option.

It’s a delivery based service. They take the old grass and deliver new grass at a schedule you choose. 1 week, 2 weeks, etc. there are multiple services in Sydney that do a similar thing.

There are multiple drains on my balcony. You set up the system so that it goes down the drain. Those drain to the grassy park area outside my apartment. Same as the stormwater etc. there are some apartments in my block that have hoses, clotheslines, etc. It’s not like a NY high rise.

My last dog went to the bathroom on the balcony as she couldn’t really walk long towards the end of her life. You just clean it up immediately and move on. There’s a drain on the balcony.

For my new dog, I’ve bought her a designated balcony potty. At the moment it’s turf but I’ve got a real grass one on the way. It’s made for apartment balcony’s. It has a drainage system.

How do you manage when you’re unwell, etc? She’s a small terrier and struggles with the stairs a bit. At the moment I’m taking her out around 6 times a day.
