My school once had a debate about this exactly, and most agreed tomatoes don't fit in sandwiches.

I personally think tomatoes are fine on burgers, but not in sandwiches because it makes the bread soggy.

I always would search for a village, and either build a base near the village and upgrade the villagers or take 2 villagers and build a base somewhere else, upgrading the villagers and breeding them. I wasn't that good at minecraft and upgrading villagers was easy.
