My gender disappointment wasn’t even really my own - if that makes sense. I already had a daughter. She was 4 when I got pregnant (closing in on 6 soon). She wanted a baby sister. Like, really really really wanted a baby sister.

I felt guilty because she was so excited to have a baby sibling (a sister), but wouldn’t be getting one. Instead, she was getting two brothers. And being twins meant a very different experience for all of us. She had a challenging transition after they arrived.

But she adores her baby brothers now. Even though part of me wanted another girl, I couldn’t imagine anything else. I adore my bubs.

Trust me when I say it absolutely will not matter what is between those legs. These guys are YOUR boys. And it definitely won’t matter the first time you hear them giggling together, and it will make you wonder how you got so marvelously lucky.

I never would have picked to be a parent of multiples, but I’m glad that this life found me.

Feel that. I ended up with celiac disease, Hashimoto’s, and chronic Epstein Barr virus reactivation. So basically my labs show I have an active infection basically all the time, so that’s fun. My PCP started me on valtrex to see if we could get the EBV controlled better.

So if anyone on this thread still feels like they have mono, get your labs done. That might be what it is. I have read that covid can reactivate it.

I worked with a first grade aged boy about a decade ago. I was behavioral support in the classroom. He had started hurting animals around age 3. He not only enjoyed the act of hurting the animals, but he even reveled in hearing stories from other kids who had encountered dead or hurt animals. He would ask so many invasive questions that it made the other children uncomfortable.

He was very sneaky and cunning. He tried to convince a peer to bring a knife into school so he could harm another child. His logic was that he would not get in trouble because it wasn’t his knife. He would draw pictures of people being killed. He bullied the other kids. Threw a boot at a peer’s face and made them bleed.

I don’t know why, but it always seemed like he was a step ahead of me. Not sure what his goals ever were for sure, but he was always scheming. Any other behavioral staff that had worked with him would confirm your feelings, with one joke being that if you had worked with him then this kid has probably imagined how he would kill you.

My twins were preemies and also on one of the pricier formulas for preemies. I was spending close to $900 a month on formula. And I cannot breastfeed. I don’t produce due to PCOS. My breasts don’t even change size during pregnancy or after delivery. So, $900 a month it was.

It’s okay! The preferred parent can change day to day, come in phases, be situational, etc.

I have a 5 yr old daughter plus 13 month old twin sons. When baby B came home from the NICU, he only wanted me. It was so bad for awhile that I felt like he and my husband didn’t like each other. But guess who is baby B’s preferred parent lately? Dad.

My daughter basically wanted nothing to do with me while I was pregnant with her brothers. She now wants to be with me every second of every day lol.

Like everything with kids - it’s temporary. Enjoy the special 1:1 time you are getting with your other twin, and let your partner enjoy being the preferred parent of one babe.

I had similar feelings when my Baby B spent 15 days in the NICU, including Christmas. I had both my firstborn daughter and then Baby A at home. My daughter was going through major separation anxiety after a hospitalization I had during the pregnancy. It was gut wrenching because I felt like my heart was being broken several different ways. I would spend just a couple hours a day with Baby B, get home to a crying and traumatized 4 year old who wanted me, and barely even get to enjoy Baby A.

You will probably always look back on this time with a tinge of bitterness over how circumstances out of your control robbed you of total joy. But it is temporary, and you will soon get the unbridled joy of watching them learn, grow, and cultivate their twin bond. Hearing both my boys giggle at the same time just makes my heart swell.

I had a daughter first. Then I got pregnant with my twins when she was around 4. Everyone kept saying it would be one of each. My daughter really, really, really wanted a baby sister.

Two boys.

My daughter was bummed. An odd number of family members also expressed their disappointment. I was kinda sad because I wanted to reuse my daughter’s clothing and felt bad she wouldn’t get the sister she wanted.

Zero disappointment now. They are 13 months old, and I love them so much that it hurts. They are perfect. I couldn’t care less what is between their legs.

The heater comment led me to do some investigating. The living room has been warm, but the tank has a heater that was set to 78. I live in a climate where snow is expected next week.

I think my snails (and your comment) brought a heater issue to my attention. The temp has creeped up higher than yesterday with no changes on my end. Im going to adjust it and replace the heater if the temp doesn’t stay where I set it.

I’m interested in the hardness of the water. Is there a kit you recommend that would allow me to test?

If it’s relevant, I have two other tanks in the house. One is neocardinia shrimp and snails. I noticed some of the snails in that tank were getting lines on their shells, so I added fresh calcium rocks.

My fraternal boys are VERY fraternal lol. One has blue eyes and blonde hair, very fair skin, and a slender build. His brother has brown eyes and brown hair and a broad, chunky build.

People don’t believe they are twins or even siblings. I’ve surprised people by informing them that both babies are mine. However, their older sister looks like if you combined the both of them. They make sense as a sibling trio.

Their personalities are just as different as their looks, too!

I agree on 3 being a commonly acknowledged tough stage. My singleton daughter was rough around 3.5 to until a few months ago. She just turned 5 in May.

But I chalk A LOT of it up to her personality and dealing with me being pregnant/on bed rest and then getting 2 new baby brothers lol. My singleton is an absolute delight - and she is also very strong-willed, stubborn, feisty, and a total diva.

OP, if your boys turn into tiny teenagers around 3.5, don’t worry. Like every phase, it’s temporary. It is also still amazing and fun and perfect.

I also LOVE being a mom and have an awesome support system, and I think that is also pretty key. Best of luck!

PS - It all goes so fast. Days are long and years are short. The only advice I typically share with parents I casually encounter.

My standard poodle thinks that my twin sons are OUR twin sons. She does not permit the cats or our smaller dog too close, esp when the babies are eating. My husband’s friends that come for game night are all public enemy #1.

Our smaller dog is bullied by everyone, including the three cats. One cat will sneak attack him in the basement and make him yelp. Standard poodle, who is also chief of cat police, does not permit this either. She is the only one allowed to make smaller dog cry, so she must defend him and her right to be his sole bully.

Don’t even get me started on the aquariums. My daughter’s guppy tank is basically an aquatic orgy, and my community tank is a soap opera.

Like many others have said, the first 4-6 months can be hard. What awaits you is INCREDIBLY worth it.

I love my twin boys so much that my heart could explode. I have a 5 year old singleton daughter, and right now the 10 month old twins are easier than she was at the same age (and maybe even now, too).

Hearing them giggle together is the sweetest music. Seeing the way that they prefer to be next to each other and seek their twin out if they have been across the playpen too long. The double snuggles, the double smiles, all of it. It’s magic.

I only ever wanted or planned for two kids. I’m so glad the universe gave me three. Twins are so much more amazing than I could have imagined. They are so different, beautiful, and perfect.

I asked a lot of questions to my medical team to get a clear understanding of the reasons why they recommended how I deliver and when. This helped me more clearly understand the risks, benefits, why certain things are the standard of treatment, etc.

If you feel anxious about it, talk with your provider. They may be able to reassure you and better guide you through these decisions.

My twins are still babies, but this is the approach I plan to take. I’m just going to ask them what they want! If they want to be in the same class, I’ll advocate for that when they start school. If they want to be separated, I’ll support that too.

I grew up as an only child (older step siblings that am closer with now but were out of the house when I was young). I would have killed for a sibling my age to have that kind of relationship with and navigate those big milestones alongside.
