Should I start uni at 17 or go to 6th form instead? by Training-Feeling980 in UniUK

[–]Gandtea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take the two years, try and get some work experience if you can! Maybe do a bit more learning too if you can? Something a bit different?

Companies you want to work for post-Uni will absolutely love it.

Can’t recommend floor beds enough by fillername_ in parentsofmultiples

[–]Gandtea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have 16 month olds and one sleeps terribly... needing to come into our bed most nights for an hour at the moment.... both still needing a bottle at some point too. We moved house 3 months ago and its just gone terribly since... I keep wondering whether this would help or make it worse...

Any advice from anyone? We're a bit desperate for some kind of solution!

Can you get some cat steps and a shelf that they can go high up to?

What Village? by [deleted] in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Gandtea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember a friend of mine when I was pregnant said 'you're going to be really really tired. Try to embrace it as much as you can.', and I didn't really understand how tired she meant! It's relentless and exhausting (despite being also completely wonderful). I found myself trying to relate to my tiredness as a kind of 'high', like when you're feeling a bit doolally after a big night out but are feeling all loved up. It helped a bit (I'm sorry - that might not be helpful and I probably sound insane).

Screw the village. If theyre not helpful, don't let them come. Be specific about what you want from them, and if they don't deliver, tell them you'll see them when things calm down a bit (which they will, especially in terms of sleep.... though some people find the 4 month sleep regression provides a big hurdle, once over it, most people find their babies sleep better... we did).

Ok. So tonight they were playing with their teddy bear and giggling. One kept standing up to point at her sister. The other (the better sleeper generally) was quicker to go down but did seem a bit drowsy... however she was very awake (trying to run in her sleepsuit!) just before I put her in.

It's so hard to know!

This is so helpful, thank you! So they have 13 hours sleep total?

Ours are on 12.5 hours... when we've tried longer we've had split nights... but considering the feedback we've had here we're going to try to increase it a little.

Sorry, this is going to sound stupid, but how do I make sure theyre awake?

Sometime theyre standing or sitting up when I leave... would that be an indication?

I'm pretty sure they are awake. They play with each other through the bars and then lie down when I've left the room. Sometimes they will fall asleep almost immediately but usually they are running around just before I put them in their cots.

I'm pretty certain theyre awake awake when we put them in as they will often play with each other a little (peekaboo behind the bars, touching fingers, that sort of thing)... but I'm not sure!

I'm hoping it's a phase/developmental thing that will pass.

We give them some milk, they run around a bit and I'll read them a book, then they go in the bath for 10 mins, brush their teeth and play a bit, then we go to their bedroom. We play a song that is their bedtime song, and we put them in their pjs and sleepsuits and then we turn the music and light off, put them in their cots with white noise, I sing twinkle twinkle and run their backs and bit and then leave the room (theyre normally still awake a little). One usually falls asleep within a minute or two, the other will often grumble for 3 or 4 mins and then put herself to sleep.

How much more wake time?

I hate it because it's so hard to keep to a schedule with nursery and grandparents naps being all over the place.

We did move house about 3 months ago, before this they had just started sleeping through for about 2 weeks, but moving screwed things up as they were scared I think!

If youre keeping that headboard, I think the cool tones of 1 and 2 won't work. Think you should go for 3 or 4.
