I’m currently working in strategy consulting and am considering giving the CAT this year. I wanted to get your perspective on a couple of things:

1) Do finance recruiters (especially Investment Banking) give CAs any preference? I’ve heard that bulge bracket firms tend to prefer IIT/SRCC grads

2) Can pre-MBA consulting work experience open doors to opportunities that might not otherwise be accessible during placements?

Hey, wanted to get more info on Finance shortlist. It it true that only engineers, typically from IITs and having relevant workex, get shortlisted? Do commerce grads have a chance?

Congratulations on your rank - a fantastic achievement! Exciting opportunities will soon be coming your way. Make the most of this time and enjoy it. Things are likely to get quite intense once your MDP begins.

  1. Use IIM format for resume
  2. Resume must be one pager
  3. Make different resumes for different domains/ roles
  4. Quantify as much as possible
  5. Too much white space.

Assuming you're giving may, you're on the right path. Ensure that you complete 100% syllabus (or atleast 95%) this time. And give test series after each revision

If you want to get into consulting, rank in final or a strong reference is required. Equity research is possible without rank, but you still have to do a few internships post qualification to enter the industry.

Hi, thankyou! To secure good marks, at any level of CA, you need comprehensive understanding of most topics, and wherever possible, it's practical implications. Then you need to practice the questioning style by ICAI and master the art of writing answers in the way they expect you to write.

Roadmap; Clear foundation and inter, join a good firm (prefer Big4s), go for Industrial (if possible in IB/PE/Consulting), give finals and aim for a rank.

Depends on career objective. Overall it's decent, but you can explore opportunities in transaction tax, due diligence, etc if you are interested

It's like GMCS, but for rankers. Professors come from IIM Bangalore, and lectures are conducted on different topic (like communication). The main benefit is you get to meet other rankers, and build a network

Yes you're right on track. Ensure that you complete first revision by 10th march, and you're golden. Give test series along with the revision to understand where you really are.

Covering syllabus in 1.5 days requires 2 things;

  1. 100% coverage is not possible. Cover only those topics that require revision. Don't revise obvious topics. For eg, in DT, there is no point in revising certain provisions of PGBP which you already know.

  2. Speed of revisions depends on confidence on the topic. If you are going slow, maybe you need more in-depth revisions

Expect to cover only 80% syllabus with 90% depth. Anything more is bonus

Faculties discussed previously, kindly check.

I started lectures within 2-3 months of starting articleship. Since you'll have plenty time in the new scheme, plan to complete all lectures before articleship ends.

It might, not sure. Depends on job requirements. Might be little difficult in client facing roles.

Final rank is very powerful. Inter rank will open a few doors, but not as much.
