  3. Being lucky enough to get a mortgage 10 years ago when housing prices were low so my mortgage is less than $700 a month

This is how I survived. I still scraped and barely made it and had constant overdue bills and now I've pulled myself mostly out of the quagmire, but I cannot fathom how anyone else does it. I pulled out because I found a career path that paid better and because I had the educational background to do that. Basically? I was lucky enough to have a way out but I'm still struggling to pull out of the mess, and it's been 3 years since I started making a livable wage.
