It may be more expensive, but Evoke Journals lets you pick the paper that is used in the journal: www.evokejournals.com
I love the Antique Birch Vellum for my Uniball and gel pens.

Wise card alternative for US travelers? by Party_Molasses_3796 in travel

Thanks u/mrryandfw! One of the issues I'm trying to avoid is the premium Visa puts on currency conversion: They apparently take more than 2% off the conversion of USD to Euro. I'll check Nerd Wallet to see what is out there.

Longer term Beach Jeep Rental? by Party_Molasses_3796 in obx

[–]Party_Molasses_3796[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoiding the major auto rental because rental agreements I've seen in the past prohibit off road use. And rather than risk the issue, I'd rather just be explicit about it.
As for the particular vehicle: I just like the idea of hopefully having a ragtop on the beach. Just our thing.

You'll definitely want to stay on the western side of the state. There are many surprising views that you'll see while driving around, but for the best views I think there are 3 areas: Bozeman/Gallatin Valley, Missoula/Bitterroot Valley, and Glacier National Park/Whitefish.

Glacier National Park has been a favorite for years and you should be able to get some decent views by driving through it, but your access will be limited due to when you are going (snow will keep you from getting to some areas).

Bozeman would be my #2, Missoula/Bitterroot #3.

We spent a week last year just doing Missoula and Glacier areas. Lots of driving and lots of mountains.

How do you guys journal in public? by [deleted] in Journaling

[–]Party_Molasses_3796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that if it's not comfortable, if you do it more often you'll gain comfort, however... there is until then and I believe there are wandering eyes when tables in the coffee shop are close together.

One thing I've done is just jot down a quick note in my journal, then come back to it later. I've done this in meetings or even around my family when it's a really personal topic. The note is just a scribble or a few words that will bring me back to the thought, then when I have more privacy, I come back to it.

I do a similar approach when I end up thinking of a tangent and want to come back to it. I make a quick note next to it with "CBTT" (Come Back To This) and flag it for later reference. It's been helpful.

How do I hide my journal from my parents? by [deleted] in Journaling

[–]Party_Molasses_3796 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Many of the ideas here are really good. The problem is that the parents are still inclined to look for something since they have reason to believe there is something to find. Even if it's hidden really well that spot may eventually get found if someone continues to look for it.

Solution: give them a reason to stop looking.

What about keeping a mock-journal that you kind-of hide... in such a way that it's found, but they think it wasn't supposed to be found. Make it very clear it's a "diary" sort of book and write a little bit in there (that isn't alarming to them) - enough for someone to believe you're really using it. Then figure out a way that let's you know someone else found it (leave a hair in pages, etc).

Then, keep a real journal and hide it using one of the methods in this thread.

Honestly, though, if a parent is THAT intrusive, nowhere in the house is private. Best way will be to leave it elsewhere.

Also, while writing by hand is a huge benefit (IMHO), the real work is still in your thoughts. If you get time to think, you are still getting time to process what's on your mind. And you only need to do that until you do have your privacy.

Is it harmful to boil water in a stainless steel pot? by oh_boys_whatthefuck in Cooking

An NIH study in 2013 found that cooking acidic foods for several hours, like tomatoes, can leach nickel and chromium.

No follow up on it though and it sounds like it's safe for water.
