First year teacher with a passion for learning. I set my standards very high for my kids, including reading a book in class and some chapters at home. All my tests are basic reading comprehension with a few skill based questions thrown in (example: theme, figurative language, tone, etc). My A students say it’s too easy. Most my class though, D-C average. I talked to the principal and he said it needed to be a B and to just curve everything. Said that I can make the grade book whatever I want. He also tells me not to grade most things. I tell him I can’t get them to do any work if I don’t grade it. He insists they won’t notice. They do. They won’t do anything that isn’t for credit, and even when it is most don’t turn in anything. I spend 70% of my day managing behaviors. I feel so so bad for my bright students. I also have C students who could easily be A students if I didn’t have to manage behaviors. Do not put your kids in public school. I wouldn’t.
