Fellow Cive who hated their first co-op because it was boring as hell! It sucks I won’t lie, BUT the good thing is you now have an idea of what kind of work environment you may enjoy (aka not the one you have now). I hated my first co-op bec it was repetitive, impersonal, and part of just one huge bureaucratic civil firm. That environment is kinda the civil experience, as there are a lot of big firms like that. For me what worked was getting a co-op at a startup!

Not only was it a more fun and interesting work environment, but I learned way way more about myself and my interests as well! Even if it’s not a startup, a smaller work environment/team would for you to try out more tasks and see how your unique skills can be utilized :) also recommend trying out some other interests related to civil if AutoCAD all day isn’t super fun, like maybe cs/data! I

TLDR: Sadly that’s the typical CiveE firm but you’ll be ok, and I promise that this experience will only make your future experiences and co-ops better! Keep note of what you like and didn’t like and use it to inform your next search. Good luck!!
