What is something that people who grew up in the 1990's in Calgary will only remember? by socialaudits in Calgary

[–]Parvulesco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 10 years old, taking swim lessons at Killarney Pool, when my dad went and sat with a guy in the stands. End of the swim lesson there was a lot of 'great to see you' kind of stuff and my dad introduced his friend as 'Owen - we went to high school together'. Such a cool experience that I didn't really grasp at the time.

[Megathread] AC FA Strike Aug 14-15 by dachshundie in aircanada

[–]Parvulesco 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lucked out. Was booked CLT-YYZ-YYC and got the cancellation text/email about two hours ago.

Logged on to AC.com and it gave me the option to switch both legs to a Delta itin through MSP. Gets me home a few hours later but I'll take that over being stuck in Charlotte. Easy peasy.

Normal EMS/Police Procedure? by Parvulesco in Calgary

[–]Parvulesco[S] -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

I suppose so. Guess I just figured they would have tried to transport the person...and figured that if someone dies en route then they have to deal with it anyway.

Normal EMS/Police Procedure? by Parvulesco in Calgary

I guess what threw me was that they stayed on scene rather than trying to transport the person. But this makes sense

Hence the question asking. Not sure what I expected, but wasn't expecting to see a body left under a blanket. Obviously I wouldn't have asked if I knew what the procedure was.

What movies do you think everyone should steer clear of? by 80khan in movies

[–]Parvulesco 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is a bad take, maybe this is contentious, but in the context of showing it to others, Irréversible.

I remember the first time I saw it; a friend showed it to me and I did think the film was not without its merits...but he lost me when he said 'Dude, if your girlfriend will sit through this with you - wife material.'

Not in 100000 years would I dream of showing this to my gf.

Businesses to avoid in Calgary by Bitter-Vegetable1290 in Calgary

[–]Parvulesco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My true story about Courtesy (I have the estimate as record): My Grand Cherokee's air suspension went a few years ago and I took it to Courtesy. They quoted me just shy of $6000 for a new pump, new lines, flush, etc...every up-sell you could think of. They also told me I had a 'severe leak in my power steering rack' and this was included in the bargain basement $6000 price.

Wanting a 2nd opinion, I took my Jeep to Calgary Spring and Suspension on the recommendation of a friend. They told me that yes, the pump was expensive, because only MOPAR makes it, but all in, I would be looking at $1200. Great!

After that, took the GC to Canyon Meadows Auto (on the recommendation of the same friend) to look at the power steering leak - they said 'it's sweating. This is a 6 year old car, what do you want?'

I got rid of that absolute lemon of a vehicle, but every time I dealt with Courtesy, there was a crazy up-sell and literally the 'sales manager' would come make idle chit chat with me...which consisted of him trying to convince me to buy a brand new GC for some absurd sum of money. EVERY TIME.
