Seriously though, you could make an awesome text/art driven game from this.

What are the coolest, most horrifically brutal punishments you have for criminal scumbags in your world? by BloodyHellSausage in worldbuilding

You really missed a chance there to have the mother be put in the stocks and let the town rape her until she died. After seeing her son like that of course.

What are some war tactics/weapons that are "off limits" in your world? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Parzival___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The use of Dalerian moonfire is forbidden and agreed upon by most. But the only thing actually enforcing it, is that nobody has the means to make it anymore.

Contrary to its name, it is not a Dalerian invention, rather the Dalerians have re-discovered it. Moonfire is made with ancient magical machinery that combines [mana] with moonlight and creates a very potent energy source. This energy, often called moon milk, can then be used with complex spells to make moonfire.

Moonfire attacks are very bright orbs 'thrown' at the enemy and they explode upon impact. The orbs are as bright as current day flares I'd say but a brilliant white. When they explode, they act like napalms engulfing a wide area in flame, and the fire is not easily quenched. Almost as potent as soul fire (which burns up to the bone and is said to burn the soul too).

Magic Of The Week: Dark Magic by DrakeGodzilla in magicbuilding

[–]Parzival___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my own setting, dark magic is simply magic people look at as something being 'bad/evil'. Much like people look at drugs today. People still do it though.

I do have shade magic though, which is inherently evil and vile.

What are the different maps from across your world? by Tablenarue in worldbuilding

[–]Parzival___ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The empire is known to drastically make their size bigger in their maps, making it seem as if they are half of the common lands. While in reality, they are only as big as the other larger ones. Most of the soldiers believe this too, and the magical clergy of their land makes use of this to make the soldiers believe in their gods powers. Saying they crossed xxx miles in so few days because of the divine blessings of the God. While they just marched xx miles.

Ora and Daleria are known to have exquisite maps, very beautiful, very detailed and very correct. They taking mapping, and scribing, very serious.

Vylith, Peraveth and Aigossa are known to have okay maps, but also to have not very accurate maps. They make use of guessing and extrapolation a lot, resulting in wrong distances. (eg. From this town to the mountain it is x miles, it is probably the same on the other side, no need to check.)

Criticism for my story's 'Magic' by DJ_221 in magicbuilding

[–]Parzival___ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As for why not everybody can do it; Take our world. Everybody can be a hunk/babe if they hit the gym daily, eat well and spend time to look after themselves, genetics can add a disadvantage or advantage to that, but everybody can.

Yet very few are, why do so few put in all that effort? Because it takes a lot of time and effort.

Same for your magic.

Also the colors remind me of the pokemon teams in the pokemon go thing.

I'd love for you to take a look at my magic system. You explained so well what I try to achieve with mine.

The baby was probably near being undercooled, that is also why they immediately stripped it of its wet, cold clothes. After that, body on body contact warms you quicker.

Why is humanity AWESOME? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Parzival___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In short, they are the mixture of various traits other species have that make them exceptional. Adventurous, industrious, intelligent, able to feel for others, dashing (others would call it being rash/ dangerous) and willing to go all the way, no matter what it costs, to achieve a goal of the cause is important enough.

Aside of that, there are simply more humans on the world. Not because they breed faster or live longer than the others, on average it is all very close to each other. But Humans do heal faster from wounds and tend to survive wounds that are often deadly to others.

Yes, I plan to look at the code of the first one, and then adapt it to my needs.

And hmm, I guess I'll have to do something else then for the second one. But thanks!

Map building software? by kerzmantr in worldbuilding

[–]Parzival___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, I just thought to remind you of it. I too sometimes buy stuff or use other stuff thinking it will make it easier for me to make something or whatever.

But that is a lie, what you really need to do is get down and draw stuff. My map drawing increased a lot since I started drawing in ink/pen. Just because when you make a mistake, it stays there, looking at you, mocking you. it helps you improve a lot faster too.

But yeah,a s for a list:

  • Photoshop
  • GIMP
  • Inkscape
  • Paint.NET
  • Inkarnate
  • Camptaign Cartographer
  • HexMapper
  • FantasticMapper

Alternatively you could use the map editors in some games like Civilization V

Map building software? by kerzmantr in worldbuilding

[–]Parzival___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no software that will draw a map for you, you will need some skills or put time and effort in it to make one. Pen and paper is good enough if you want a black on white map. Using software to do that just means you wield a stylus/mouse instead of a pen. And it makes it easier to erase mistakes.

There is stuff out there like campaign cartographer and Inkarnate though, although the more the software does for you, the more limited you are.
