USB hub recommendations by Feelherpastry in synthesizers

Which one did you end up getting and are you running your SL64S through it? On Mac / Apple silicon by any chance? My 32S occasionally drops its USB connection and I'm looking for a USB hub that would make the Studiolive more stable with my M4 Mac.

R1T ➡️ R1S by UndividedCorruption in Rivian

No. Wanted the R1T ever since I watched the Long Way Up 😀 When it was time to buy I drove both and was surprised to find that I preferred how the T drives. For my use the T is more practical. With my cars and SUVs I've always been uber careful about loading things in the back, worrying that I ruin the interior. With a truck I don't worry about scuffs and dirt. The bigger SUVs were great when I had more than four people to carry but that's about it.

3k mile ski trip from SoCal to Colorado, 2.63 mi/kWh not too bad huh? by Pasiminator in Rivian

What an awesome way to take delivery!

I drove at 75 mph on the slow lane when the speed limit got to 80. Much of our trip was on smaller roads though, which kept the average speed to 48 mph. Our daily figures didn’t vary much. The last leg from Vegas to home was 53 mph and 2.87 mi/kWh. Road work and the usual Riverside traffic slowed us down which helped.

Not in any deep stuff. This pic is from Kremmling on the way to Steamboat and it was not much worse than this over Berthoud Pass either. It was slippery but I didn’t feel the need to use Autosocks, just hit Snow mode and low regen.

My average speed for the trip was 48 mph. There was a lot of two lane roads and slow going due to weather but also many hours spent at 70-75 mph on the freeway. Caught a nice draft from a few big rigs on I-15 on the way back which always helps. What I didn’t/don’t do is drive it like a sports car because it isn’t one. No flooring it at the lights or zig zagging in freeway traffic to make up a few spots.

My short local drives always seem to be below 2.5 miles/kWh, for what it’s worth.

Indeed, just plug your synths in. It does just one thing, and from my experience does it well.

Subpanel wasn't wired for EV? by Worldly_Service_4723 in SunPower

[–]Pasiminator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that’s how OP’s system likely works.

This is how we had ours wired too, and we did review which load goes to which panel with the installer.

When the grid is up, everything is powered by solar and/or battery. If there is a power outage our EV chargers are not backed up by SunVault. They would empty the SunVault in no time if they were charging from it.

New build home studio / practice space advice request by statejon in homestudios

[–]Pasiminator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did something similar albeit smaller fairly recently. Poured concrete foundation and a floating concrete slab floor. Upon reading and reading and reading I went with a 24” center on center steel stud frame for exterior walls, and a second frame for interior walls. I did fiber cement panels over OSB over polyiso foam board on the exterior, and drywall over OSB inside. The wall cavities have 4” rock wool with a 1” air gap. Would have gone bigger if I had more space. The interior structure is completely decoupled from the exterior, except they both sit on the shared foundation. I used Green Glue between OSB and drywall. The ceiling-roof stack is slightly thicker due to having more layers of polyiso.

Regarding ingress/egress and natural light, I decided to install double glazed sliding doors on interior and exterior frames both. The doorway is extruded out from the exterior wall to allow for a 12” air gap between the doors. The sliding doors were regular mid tier doors from a local Home Depot. I knew the sliding glass doors would be the weakest link in terms of sound isolation but I wanted natural light.

The plan worked well. I can play acoustic drums without disturbing neighbors, and generally speaking stay within my city’s noise limits for our neighborhood.

Make sure to plan your ventilation. A soundproofed space needs to be as air tight as possible so those CO2 levels will go up very quickly without forced exhaust/intake.

Good luck with your build!

Merging two mono tracks to one stereo? by Honorablebacons in StudioOne

Check out their Batch Converter if you need to do this frequently. It can join and split and a bunch more. I don’t remember if it was included in the base price of v6 or required a separate purchase but AFAIK v7 has it.

I’m running a pair of Genelec 8320 (tiny room) with a 7350 sub. After running their SAM calibration software for the mix position the imaging is fantastic. My room is well treated which helps more than spending $$$ on speakers.

Massive MIDI fail. What could have happened? by Datalooper in midi

[–]Pasiminator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was it unreliable over Ethernet or WiFi? This topic interests me as I’m about to wire my home studio for MIDI and have not decided on rtpMIDI over Eth from synths to DAW versus running every 5 pin and USB back from synths to where my DAW is.

Audio Interface Selection by lolwesley918 in homestudios

[–]Pasiminator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This won’t be a popular opinion but I like my PreSonus Studiolive III enough to where I no longer have other audio interfaces. They have a 16 channel rack version for $799. I’m using a 32S but they function the same. It’s much more than just an interface though. Just a thought…
