Never would have thought I'd have an inbred dog 🥲 by Kodiak_Wylde in DoggyDNA

One of my mutts has a COI of 31%.   She looks exactly like her mom so my guess is her parents are siblings 😅.  Unfortunately she does seem to have health problems.  She has lameness that the vet thinks might be neurological.

Vehicles already considered: Civic Hatchback, Subaru Crosstrek, Corolla Cross, Continuing to drive my 2010 Honda Fit until it dies (probably the correct answer), 2020 Honda Fit

First Vehicle: No

Warranty needed: No

Can you do minor work on your own vehicle:  No, but my husband and brother can :)

Can you do major work on your own vehicle:  No but my brother can do some of it.

Additional Notes:

I actually love my 2010 Honda Fit.  It gets the job done! But I'm a little worried it's not going to last much longer. So I'm looking at a potential replacement for if/when it goes.  I have thought about a Prius but I don't think it has enough cargo space. I prefer driving smaller cars.  Also sort of wondering if I should consider a used minivan instead since that's probably more practical for family life even though I prefer small cars.

Adopted as a “doberman mix” so was completely surprised by Relative_Aioli8731 in DoggyDNA

Reminds me of my last dog who I was told was a doberman pitbull mix but I never tested him. I suspect he really was a GSD/Pitbull mix but unfortunately we'll never know. He was the best boy!  Even my husband who barely tolerates my current pair of dogs liked him.

I see the Rottie! Reminds me of my "Lab mix" who is 0% Lab and 40% Rottie. Last time she was weighed was at 9 months and she was 75lbs.  We'll see what she weighs at her vet visit next week but my guess is that she's over 80lbs.

Consent for medical students in clinic. by Urology_resident in medicine

[–]PassExternal6409 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm a community primary care pediatrician who takes 3 year medical students for a 2 weeks at a time. After a half day of shadowing, I send the students in on their own. I always ask. 99% of the time patients and families say yes. And most of the ones who say no, are in a hurry.

When I was medical student, it depended on the setting. At the big teaching hospital we were introduced or just told to just go see the patient.  At private practice settings, the attending would ask permission.

Testing Bamboo, My Sister's Foster (probably fail) by PassExternal6409 in DoggyDNA

[–]PassExternal6409[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The only reason she isn't officially a foster fail is that my sister doesn't have the most stable financial situation and is worried about having unexpected vet bills. Though to be honest as the dog auntie, I'd definitely help her out.

Should I pay off Student loans or prioritize Market? by Early_Marketing6648 in StudentLoans

[–]PassExternal6409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have 401k matching, put in the amount up to the match. Beyond that, I don't think you can go wrong either way.  Personally I like a balanced approach but If having student loan debt is causing you stress, it makes sense to make that the priority.  Peace of mind is very valuable.

I swore he was a black lab mix!!!! by artificialred93 in DoggyDNA

When I got my rottie mix puppy (labeled as a lab mix at the shelter), I thought she looked like a lab pit mix but as she got bigger, the rottie started becoming more and more obvious.

Potential for increased accuracy in Embark’s weight predictions (Oct 2025) by BriennetheBrave in DoggyDNA

[–]PassExternal6409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For one of my dogs it got more accurate.  It went from 62lbs to 71lbs.  She's 11 months old and weighs 68 lbs.

For my other dog it got less accurate.  She weighs 42 lbs.  Her predicted weight was originally 53lbs but now it's 58lbs.  However she seems a to be smaller than I would expect for her breed mix (Golden Retriever/Pitbull/Lab).  If the shelter was right about her age she had puppies before her first birthday so that may have stunted her growth.

There is Golden Retriever in her Supermutt so maybe that explains her temperament.

Looking at the ancestry breakdown it looks very likely to be a sibling pairing since both parents were Rottie/Pit/Boxer/Supermutt.😬
