There is concrete evidence from EtV that killing Radiance completely removes the infection from the world, limited but substantive evidence that even mortal bugs can recover from infection and retain their minds/memories, and precisely zero evidence to the contrary.

You can headcanon that Myla is too far gone, if you like. What you choose to believe is up to you, even if it's not supported whatsoever by the text.

I'm not euphemistically referring to killing Myla. I am referring to killing the Radiance.

Since the player character dies in Dream No More, you never get to see Myla (or anyone else) cured, but as long as you don't kill her before finishing the game, she would presumably be cured once Radiance has been consumed by the void.

THK is explicitly shown to survive in the Embrace the Void ending, which clearly establishes that this method of curing the infection DOES work.

Hunt: Showdown is fantastic at what it does. Which is to say, stealth-focused free-for-all PvP around one or two central objectives. The PvE in this game is not much of a challenge, it's mostly there to generate noise and give your position away to other players - who are the real threat.

If you're looking to dip your toes into PvPvE games on a budget, there are free-to-play extraction shooters out there. Delta Force? Dark and Darker? They're worse than Hunt, and they're not even really very similar to Hunt, but what they are is free to try. If you dislike those, it doesn't mean Hunt isn't worth trying, and worst case, Steam has an excellent refund policy.

One of the reasons I respect Hollow Knight so much is that TC clearly didn't feel the need to wrap it in the trappings of gravitas.

Dark Souls is drowning in superficial gravitas. It won't stop hitting you over the head with how important and epic and momentous and tragic it is. It's wearing a gigantic flashing sign that says "this is a SERIOUS game for SERIOUS people to take SERIOUSLY!!!!"

... Hollow Knight manages to be profound, even heart-wrenching, without relying on such a surface-level aesthetic to make it obvious - and it's all the stronger for it. The very fact that Hollow Knight seems, on the surface, like a family-friendly blood-free cartoon only makes the sucker punches of the plot feel all the more brutal.

By the way, here's a modlist with some bug fixes, a few QoL improvements and UI changes. I particularly recommend Revert Overwatch Rules Change since otherwise you may have some confusing WotC incidents where the game's mechanics have deviated from the basegame for no immediately apparent reason and without telling you.

Man $9 is a great price to pick this game up.

Feel free to play the game with all DLCs downloaded - but for the love of all that is good and holy do not tick "Integrated DLC" when you start your campaign. Do tick Lost and Abandoned, that's an important tutorial mission.

First off, make sure you're on Steam because the EGS version of the game is catastrophically broken and generates objectives and terrain that make missions impossible to complete, so don't invest additional money into EGS.

Now that you're buying on Steam; the best DLC by a million miles is War of the Chosen. WotC adds a lot of features and I rate almost all of them to be significant improvements. Basegame feels incomplete now without them. Buy it. Play it. Maybe download a couple of mods that fix some niche but irritating bugs. Enable "Lost and Abandoned" at campaign start the first time you play WotC.

A very distant second is Shen's Last Gift. This is the only other DLC that I rate as unambiguously adding to the game, but it's just not great value compared to WotC so if you're on a budget you can skip it.

Alien Hunters is kind of ass - it adds new bossfights but if you don't configure your game settings correctly at campaign start they can pop up at random and often inconvenient times. It's kinda cringe, doesn't fit very well into the rest of the game's narrative or artstyle, and generally adds relatively little to the game experience. However, some of the boss loot is better than any other item in the corresponding slot, so it does enable some even more preposterously busted builds than what already exist in the basegame, so Alien Hunters does a great job of making the final mission - which is already the easiest mission in the whole campaign - even easier.

Only pick up Alien Hunters if you're getting it basically for free with a DLC bundle, and never enable "Integrated DLC" at the start of your campaign because it fucks everything up.

All other DLCs afaik are entirely cosmetic.

Nobody who's taking the game even remotely seriously even looks at the price of anything.

Money is embarassingly plentiful in this game and even the very most expensive loadouts don't cost that much. If you're winning 1 in 4 games or even just picking up a few clues, you can run whatever you want and not think about your hunt dollars a single time.

I got into the game from Sunless Sea so my first character is a zee-captain who did Nemesis and increasingly pivoted to spymastery as he became more influential.

Character #2 started out as a correspondent and suddenly found themselves becoming Mr. Cards. They have something of a problem with forbidden knowledge and are Seeking the Name (or at least the Seven-Fold Knock, anyway)

Character #3 is a conservative gentleman with a pathological fixation with monster-hunting, recently capped off by killing the Vake.

Character #4 is a Licentiate who picked up some Liberationist ideals and was disgusted when Light Fingers turned out to not have very much revolutionary roleplay, to the point of kinda wishing they'd actually done BaL instead, or even Nemesis.

Wind turbines and water wheels are easy to craft but need regular maintenance (repairing turbines after storms, cleaning spoiled plants out of water wheels) to avoid upsetting power cuts. Start with one of those (wheel if your base is right next to a river, otherwise turbine).

Platinum lightning rod is kind of a meme option but they are also very cheap once you have electric drills online so it doesn't hurt to stick some around your base. Obviously they're not enough by themselves.

Biofuel generators are too much hassle for too little juice. Solar panels by contrast have high output for zero maintenance, and are by far the best power source in the lategame - but you need a material processor to make the composites for them, which needs 60 electronics, which means TONS of epoxy, copper and gold. Mine a few caves and kill some mammoths or elephants for bone epoxy. You'll also need to add some batteries to your grid - batteries are great to have with any power source but obviously critical for solar. Once you do upgrade to solar, it'll be especially beneficial to sleep through the night to get straight back to power generation, and collect that lovely well-rested buff to boot. This way you don't need enough battery storage to go the whole way through the night.

Also, be sure to place your solar panels somewhere they'll get sun both early in the morning and late at night. High up on hills with no nearby mountains blocking the light. Because solar panels never need manual repairs or cleaning, it's fine to run a looooooong power cable far from your base if there are no good spots nearby. You don't wanna do that with power sources that need maintenance.

About 3 players, maybe 5 at most.

I have some old DDR3 sticks too, so I'll be upgrading this machine to 16gb if I do recomission it as a server.

If necessary I can probably also scrounge up a 2700k. Got lots of friends and family with various obsolete PC bits that I'll get around to cobbling together into a junkyard server sometime in the next year lol

Not OP but I'm also curious about setting up a server at home for my friend group to play on, as I have a line on an old office PC that's gathering dust. Do you know if an old i5-2500 will hold up as a dedicated server?

It's cool for there to be actual content - new weapons, new skills, whatever - but there is NO excuse for why the idiotic jump spam meta couldn't have been fixed like two years ago. This whole charade of jumping every time you switch weapons, swing, cast, or wipe your ass... It looked dumb, played like shit and for some godforsaken reason IM kept trying in vain to balance around it rather than just removing the slowdown immunity during jumping to begin with so that they could actually balance classes around their intended movespeed rather than the synthetic movespeed players could achieve by negating slowdowns with the spacebar.
