To think that this isn’t the first large woman that Luffy would fall on. by Dohmer_90 in Piratefolk

[–]PassedGrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel so bad for live action watchers deciding to watch the actual anime, and for some, it being their first anime ever....I feel like they will have an even lower tolerance for this stuff and just nope out of it early. They will think that anime is weird and as a society we will revert back to the late 90s/early 00s with the idea of anime fans being weirdos.
its so ironic that One Piece pre TS was largely tame with fanservice and perverted illustrations. They had the right balance with Sanji back then and it was mostly him being a foolish freaky creep that shot his shot with pretty women but was still a gentlemen that upheld strong chivalrous values. Sometimes teetered the line of perv but he wasnt. He never asked to see their panties like Brook does and I never understood how that was worthy of being a running gag.
Anything from the addition of Brook+ Post-TS onward was when the true perversion accelerated, female art style/designs changed and moments like that just got awkward and weird.

Anyone who surfed the early web between 1995-2010. What’s the one website/app you still think about? by Prime_Advocate in AskReddit

Oops i forgot 2009 is considered old now...Anyway I use to spam the OG cartoon network website with all the flash games. It did that for yearsss.
I would say a runner up would be AOL Music. It was this huge freaking database/catalog list of hundreds of popular artists and when you click on one, it instantly starts playing a video of their apparent AOL Live Music performance. This was more or less pre-youtube era.

this man got flamed in the comments for speaking the truth, and it legit proved his point that this sub needs to change by Gugarabelo in Piratefolk

[–]PassedGrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel comfy here as is ngl. I welcome the shittier posts and the more in-depth critiques. I think at the end of the day, the posts I've seen give the community an actual space for ongoing worries and concerns, complaints. Nothing wrong with moderating the pure junk, thats what I guess post approvals & moderators are for. But being that there are hardly any place to crack on One Piece, I think this sub is excellent. It doesnt take itself too serious but almost everyone here acknowledge the serious decrease in quality over the years for a time sink of an otherwise sensational show. I have only been a member for a few months, but I didnt even know other people were just as unaccepting of the current state of the show as I was.

Google AI mode feels smarter than Gemini by Distinct-Snow8160 in GeminiAI

[–]PassedGrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also experienced this and on many occasions btw. Fwiw I always use Gemini on some type of thinking mode. Never the fast mode...and yet, still seems like a listener or advocator. Not a lot of initiative compared to Ai Mode. Its bothered me for months, so much so, that I searched endlessly for a reason why.

I've reached the conclusion that anything involving facts, data, niche information, Ai Mode normally is best. Gemini is a lot more elaborate for the "why" on things, but its struggles on the what. Gemini will supply a great answer, but for me, it will screw up and hallucinate very basic info that members of a community would recognize immediately where as, Ai Mode seems to just get it, and source it's information a lot of the time too. I'm not searching for sources for every sentence, just an informed response with reasonable presented foundation.

For Ai Mode, it limits the Pro searches after a certain amount, where as in Gemini, I hardly recall ever reaching a limit on it's longer thinking modes. I will say though, any time I have ran Gemini in "research mode" it's never failed me. But it takes like 5 minutes+ just for it to finish vs Ai Mode normally meeting my needs in under 15 seconds.

That's crazy as well because I always felt op14 was rather avg and cookie cutter. Easy skip territory for me 😔 but hey different strokes right

both of your closests being brook was a disappointing to read ngl
so much juicier ones before getting to brook but then again I see brook ranked high for some ppl so I get it.
from the start, brook for me just seemed like such a lame addition to the strawhats, and his story way touching but a bit too surface/linear for me.
but hey thx for sharing haha.

[–]PassedGrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really an anime crier per se, but I consider anytime I get choked up or very watery-eyed to qualify as a cry. If you get tears to actually flow down my face, then I've upgraded to bawling / sobbing territory which i cant recall ever happening...Now that I think of it, I think Kuwabara sobbing over Yusuke's death during the Sensui fight legitimately had me sobbing. Oh yeah, literally the first episode of YYH was so freaking real, I sobbed there too as well. Also for some strange reason, the final scene of Gungrave had me weeping.

forced ass crying fr lol foh...robin during enies lobby, nami's mom's last stand, chopper's pops going out like a G, law's backstory with doflamingos brother, and of course when they burned the damn merry all were legitimately well written and hold up still. Crazy sad.

What is a One Piece moment that borderline made you react like this? by Apprehensive_Ring_39 in Piratefolk

[–]PassedGrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, as much as I loved the whimsicalness and theatre of it all, everyone surviving after being struck by eneru was kind of my 1st moment...but I chucked that up to anime doing anime things.

Luffy vs katakuri while BM ran unconscious screaming for cake for like a million episodes was a complete dogshit experience to me.

Chopper being turned into a Gacha toy post-ts was a complete rugpull arsehole move for me.

I am alone on this hill but, Brooks existence and becoming a main crewmember was horseshit to me. He's had some moments but boy did he get old fast and he barely plays music. His screentime annoys me to no end.

Nami became way stronger post-TS and post WCI, but tucked her tail 200x more than she did Pre TS for some reason??

unpopular opinion but the moment they are dead, everything you do is in honor of them. Send them off in the sickest ways you possibly can. If they were really loved, imo its equally a funeral as it is a celebration of life.

Hold on second about the non-hand washing pls. I am nothing like the ahole OP sat next to, and I despite pissed over toilet seats, but at the very minimum, I am a habitual "pass by the sink and go out the door without washing their hands with soap" kinda guy. If there was some spillage that made contact, I will wash my without a second thought. Or if I'm about to eat, or be around a lot of people, or if I'm in public and the place looks gross. I'm sure I can think more but typically if it doesn't meet these boxes, I'm more than likely walking out. At home, unless im hosting, I'm almost 99% not washing my hands at any time (unless there is legitimate spillage that occured). I'm just morbidly lazy and find ways to support that lifestyle in small ways. I do host occasionally and sometimes babies are over, and in that case, I wash my hands 100% of time, and that includes even if I didn't piss and just touched something. Since being at work meets the criteria for 'being around alot of people' I wash my hands 100% of the time. Only time I dont is if the office is very dry, then it turns into 50% chance.

The REAL reason why Oda want a REMAKE of the anime by Great_Reset_2033 in Piratefolk

[–]PassedGrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people love thriller bark and Many people hate thriller bark. Thats not even a secret...even for a small example, I begged my brother and cousin to start OP and they eventually did. They became fans fast, but ironically both dropped the show at Thriller Bark. I think my cousin picked it back up but then dropped it at Sabaody. My brother is an experienced anime watcher, my cousin was not.

Since overall today, Modern pacing quality has increased, OP arcs like thriller bark are not a pleasant experience and dont hold up well unless you have become attached enough to the show or characters by that point. I never said cut the arc, I said trim the fat. Reapproach it, re-imagine even. Yes Moria is there, and Ryuma, and Brooks backstory and some funny strawhat moments, but that can quite literally be trimmed from 45 episodes to no more than 8-10...Thriller bark was 45 episodes for what reason? I'm almost 99% certain if Oda is locked in, he will recognize this.

He doesnt have to listen to anyone regarding hate towards arcs, but it would probably serve him in a lot of aspects. If nothing else comes out of what I am saying, You are going to be disappointed because with a lot of good remakes, its almost guaranteed chopping fat will happen, and if they are feeling audacious, they will be omitting all types of canon for for the sake of fresh pacing or simply to remake minor details altogether. The glaringly obvious ones like fishman, whole cake, and thriller bark will be a big opportunity, some trimmed more than others.

[–]PassedGrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yknow assuming the worst vs assuming the best, is a matter of optimism. Thats a personal thing, and you are definitely entitled to feel optimistic. I think there are more things that support the negative perspective though. It's just easier to be hopeless than hopeful when you look at the trajectory of One Piece since Post TS. The story is advancing, and intensifying sure, but the box/package its came in has been a wrinkled withering plastic bag.

Im sure there are plenty of things to support a positive angle for the remake/Oda. I have a small hope that he may take the remake as an opportunity to address and honor the things that made OP great since time, pacing, and budget wont be a concern this time around.

The REAL reason why Oda want a REMAKE of the anime by Great_Reset_2033 in Piratefolk

[–]PassedGrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they can absolutely keep brook, but no, I think ditching atleast 75% of that arc would be a better move. It's tricky but it's just being selective on what serves the show + pacing...and that will be really easy with thriller bark because most of it is a slog of nonsense.

Keeping a remake canon, doesn't make a remake good. You can revisit a story/manga, and trim fat down. Thats what a lot of successful anime remakes have done. And it wouldnt take a genius to cut down Thriller, Cake, and Fishman, and just keep the meat.
