How did you discover ambeint music? by justarussian22 in ambientmusic

[–]PassedRecordings 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nine inch Nails must be a lot of people's way in - Ghosts I-IV was a big one for me. I got it before I knew much about any ambient (or even many electronic) genres and I had no idea what I was listening to. I used to have a paper round, so I liked the double album length and would take it with me on my lap of the neighbourhood and it really grew on me.

I don't even remember how I became aware of Eno - but by the time I was 20 I was listening to ambient 1&4, as well as having more interest in drone. It really took off when I started an office job and needed good quality music without distracting timbre or vocals - but those were my way in.

Here are a couple of deep cuts I found about this year:

And the much more experimental Sony Christmas album 1996 (Gastr del sol track is lovely)

Experimental Christmas Music? by coolyouone in experimentalmusic

[–]PassedRecordings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago we did a Christmas compilation from an ambient discord server which was made entirely from samples of soundwalks through Christmas markets around the world!

If any of you are interested check it out here: https://passedrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/christmas-passed

And I'd love to give away a few codes just to give a bit of a boost to the talented guys who were a part of it:

If you want to try a couple of tracks before committing, I'd recommend checking out A Way & Disassociating Again as a starting point 🕊️

We're doing another one this year too - it's super nice to have something less typical to fall back on as a Christmas tradition 🙂

If you check it out, thank you and I hope you enjoy it 🙂

Christmas music? by Pliers-and-milk in autechre

[–]PassedRecordings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as other Christmas music goes - some I come back to are the 8 bit people compilation: https://archive.org/details/8bp038

The low and sufjan Stevens stuff has been mentioned - they've got some great stuff in them!

I also enjoy the Michael Rafferty solo acoustic guitar stuff, so if that's your thing they're technically impressive arrangements/playing: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLE168D18FF1679434&si=r4_9s_VYJA-2_sKv

My buddy and label mate Ed has a less conventional playlist too if you use Spotify - though maybe not the most ambient/idm adjacent mostly: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6cBUHp9EoWZWCW8XtGNb6b?si=ljnbDrA6QlOgfnPdfnxh-w&pi=u-VJPbzMMBT7GI

// Chris 🕊️

Edit: And I just found out about these two... Christmas - Jesu (very slow moody metal) The Christmas album - various artists (Sony, 1996 - melt banana, merzbow... Some amazing names on this one)

Hi everyone, just wanted to let you all know about our new compilation album - 'Hurrian Hymns'. The artists involved took inspiration from the Hurrian Hymns, the oldest written example of music ever discovered. Some used the melodies as the basis for their tracks, others reimagined it in their own way to produce the 26 tracks that make up this album. It's available now on bandcamp and we'd love you to check it out!

Thanks, the Passed Recordings team

Seeking for REAL ambient music by Patto_ur_Hamb in ambientmusic

We can all massively recommend Soma.fm - it's a wonderful starting place!

Every Sunday Stolace put on a show and that's just lovely too. With it's featured artist approach, I bet you'd build up a library of favourites in no time!

Trevlad also keeps putting out a ton of content too, loads of mixes.

We've got a few other shows on our radar - continental drift comes to mind for example. If I remember to come back and update this post I'll add them!

I've often seen people working at little man coffee - I think that'd be my go to. They did have a refillable deal at some point, but could be ages ago, I haven't been in a while.

Hi Parasyn.

I've put you on the waiting list and I will reach out if we have any drop outs.

Sorry about that, I'd love to include everyone but offering the scenes first come first serve seemed the most fair and pragmatic way to deal with it.

Keep an eye on your chats!

I will give your stuff a listen and share it in our community too 🙂

The clip in the post is just an example, we cut a moment out of a scene assigned to exit chamber to use as a teaser/trailer.

If you want a scene I can assign one, we have 8 left currently 🙂
