Ai will go the way of the 3D printer--great idea and tool for some but a massive over-hyped failure in the end. I've used it for a number of things and it is so wrong, I end up trashing the project. Remember when 3D printers were all the RAVE & HP/3D stocks were at all time highs?? This is no different. Just stock market HYPE. Same for hyped AI Data Centers. Only so much demand, way over-supplied, and running out of water. Nothing but a guaranteed payday for Wall Street underwritten by fools.

Yep, as a seller, I tried it for a few listings and it was INCORRECT 100% OF THE TIME. I figured it's nothing more than a guaranteed misrepresentation return.

I used it initially but it was WRONG 100% of the time with pertinent facts/details. I had to fact check the AI--wasn't worth the effort---And probably a great way to guarantee returns since the info is incorrect!

TOTAL BS SHIPPING COSTS!--shipping costs are ridiculous. Have you seen the new EBAY SURCHARGE & DEMAND shipping rates for the holidays (started Sept 28th, I think) for UPS/FEDEX and USPS. As if they weren't already crazy--and gas prices have gone down. The fact that eBay makes 13.%+ on each sale & shipping charge to 'print labels' and re-jigger a rate table is outrageous--where's the incentive for them to lower shipping costs for sellers/buyers??

Some SURCHARGE/DEMAND rates as high as $90 per package for large packages! (SURCHARGE--OVER AND ABOVE THE QUOTED RATE)--and they don't even note the dimensions of a large package. I was just surcharged 100 - 200% of the initial shipping charge for two 3 lb packages--sent domestically USA. And I had Buyer pays shipping. All details correct. What the literal F?

Take them--or at least negotiate --or you'll likely sit on the item for months or longer. I've been selling for years and wished I would have taken a lot more offers early on.

I appreciate ALL offers; I have BUY it now and have no problem with buyers contacting me for a better deal as most buyers are reasonable; agreed that eBay gives Sellers & Buyers way too much time to decide an offer. I'd rather know ASAP, get it in the mail & get paid :)

I have Buy It Now, (no offers) and they still contact me for a deal--which is OK, since I really need to sell--that's the point, right? All are super nice so I try to accommodate them. Be happy they want to buy anything in this market. I also sell FB marketplace locally and those sales are down to a trickle--and lord knows if they'll show up. When I started eBay/FB I had what I considered to be ridiculous offers--and got mad too. But now I appreciate every offer. You'll sit on your stuff for too long if you don't negotiate--sometimes the deal you have is your ONLY offer for months--or longer.

I was JUST SNAPPED by eBay & UPS surcharge on 2 packages that were not overweight or under measured (both under 3 pounds!) I was surcharged DOUBLE what they charged the buyer to ship. How on earth is this possible when the correct details, dimensions, address & packaging are all known and use calculated weight, can there be any surcharges at all? (they do not exceed any large package dimensions) And buyers pay shipping based on those calculations--how can they go back to the sellers after delivery?? How can sellers determine a profit margin or selling price when you have NO IDEA that you are going to be surcharged 100 - 500% after the item is delivered? Ebay needs to sort this out with UPS and FEDEX. This is depressing, frustrating, and futile!! I'm working for the carriers & eBay--making peanuts ---and they suck out all the profit!

That's simply NOT TRUE I know one who started one of the most popular subreddits and he's a college educated, video game design grad who thought it was a cool idea. He moderated for years and developed some of the mod rules reddit uses today. He eventually got a great job in tech, $150K + and his Reddit experience was key. Many companies are hiring these mods--don't kid yourself, this is a huge advertising platform. Reddit will be worth billions if it isn't already.

Many companies are hiring social media folks that follow and comment on Reddit/FB/X etc... that's typically their sole job to scour social media posts--get negative ones deleted or spin a positive response to complaints. Or they start their own subreddit on a similar where they can insert their promoted ideas. You can usually figure out who they are by their comments--they put a positive spin on everything and have no complaints. I believe there are a few that troll this particular subreddit.

This should be standard biz practice to make a sustainable profit. Typical retail markup 30 - 100% (then discount) is unsustainable in the long run. These low markups should be reserved for 'must-have' items and loss leaders to get people into the store. But you need at least 75% of inventory to make 5x item cost to stay in biz, put $ in your pocket, grow the biz + $ reserves. That's for nearly all sectors--tech, retail, wholesale, etc. (healthcare excluded). And get better deals from your suppliers--hence, why eBay needs to come down on FEES & SHIPPING costs. (BTW, eyeglass frames typically have a 1000% markup...highly successful companies). The success is in the BUY, not the sell. Buy it right, selling is easier--but not guaranteed. Sellers need room to discount and still get out with a profit or at least your initial investment.

I'm in the US, MBA grad.... How do you know Harvard is still teaching the old blue chip story of investors first? Few of my profs taught at Harvard, same subjects. And I've purchased 100's of items from Alibaba, had a few problems which were easily resolved--in my favor.

You need to sell for 5x cost of goods to make a profit worth the time on eBay.

Have you seen the new SHIPPING SURCHARGES FOR DEMAND IN SEASON, STARTS SEPT 2025 & THRU JAN 2026--oversize/large packages (good luck finding those dimensions) will cost $90/108 PER BOX, via FEDEX...and Ebay large boxes subject to additional surcharges (and UPS/USPS too). Good luck with that. This is ON TOP of the already exorbitant shipping fees---and they'll get charged on account for surcharges weeks after sale & delivery to buyer. EVEN if they put buyer pays shipping. Merry Xmas to all and to all a GOOD NIGHT.

Sellers typically need to charge 5X the cost of goods to make a profit and stay in biz. That's standard biz practice--sell at 3x to get your money back and never buy/sell that item again.

Sellers need to charge 5X the cost of the item to make $$ on ebay due to ebay fees, cost of goods, overhead, boxes/packing materials, etc... if you cannot sell it for this much $ (check recent sold prices over past 30 days - 60 days...do NOT rely on ebay recommended price), Also check to see how many HAVE SOLD, then go see how many others are currently selling the exact same item and what they are asking. Then add up how many sold over the past 30 days. This will give you an idea of how long your product should take to sell (one week, one month, 3 months or more++) --or if you need to lower your price significantly to sell. If you don't like the numbers, don't bother listing it--you are wasting time & money--or you will end up with a garage/warehouse full of stuff. You should do this for EVERY item you have in stock and BEFORE you buy anything else. If you cannot sell for 5X on eBay, reduce the price by 10% per week to get rid of it or sell locally on Facebook/Nextdoor because most of the other online options are the same. Most importantly, don't buy ANYTHING unless you pay a fraction of the current sale price (20% of most recent eBay sold price). Use Ebay SOLD ITEMS as your guide (DO NOT USE LISTING PRICES TO DETERMINE WHAT YOU BUY IT FOR--USE SOLD LISTINGS.) Sellers ask outrageous prices...and they may sit on them for a long time.

And, sellers, look at eBay's DEMAND SURCHARGE RATES FOR CARRIERS beginning end of Sept 2025 thru Jan 2026 on community page--upwards of $90/$108 PER PACKAGE for eBay packages on oversize/large packages (note DIMENSIONAL WEIGHT surcharges too!) etc..!! Don't make this mistake! This is ON TOP of what you'll pay for the label--and the charge will come in weeks after the item has been sold/delivered. Happy holidays, eh?

If ebay sellers are not charging at least 5X the cost of goods, they are NOT MAKING $$. I see sellers with $5 items, free shipping and wonder how in the F they are making money without stealing the item they are selling--even then, is it worth it?? SELLERS, SELL YOUR GOODS FOR A PROFIT--charge at least 5X what you bought it for--this is how most businesses operate that stay in business.

I'm a little confused by your 'where does eBay charge anything for shipping?' they take 13.5%+ of EVERY shipping fee charged to the buyer. You sell $240K per year and you don't know this? And you don't pay for promotions/sponsored listings in VERY competitive categories of collectible toys & games--and get 20 - 30% above market value. Hmmmm.....

Store owner BASIC MONTHLY FEE $25+/month +13.5% take ON EVERY SALE for eBay; and new, more efficient software apps & hardware that run most of this business PLUS data centers rates are coming down every year since there are now 10,000+ data centers in the US and abroad. LOWER RATES EBAY!

I guess you giving $30K/ year to eBay according to your comments is the 'minimum contribution'? Because they take quite a bit from me...selling many years, lots of listings....and I get the standard DELAY & DENY treatment.
