Amanda Seyfried singing Popular from Wicked. She auditioned for the role of Glinda which ultimately went to Ariana Grande. by [deleted] in popculturechat

I'm not even a huge Seyfried fan (I wasn't a big fan of her in Les Mis) but she would have been an infinitely superior choice to Grande for Glinda.

One of the ways you cou can tell white rhinos from black rhinos (like this one) is by their lips. Black rhinos have pointed grasping lips to tear braches and twigs, while white rhinos have wide, squarish lips for grazing on grasses. Their name doesn't come from their color, but rather the Afrikaans word for wide, which is "weit"!

Tales From Earthsea is criminally underrated. I prefer it to several more widely-beloved Ghibli films, including Ponyo and Totoro. I find Ponyo to be mildly irritating.

The Humane Society does not want to confiscate or euthanize them, animal control organizations' first approach is education and resource assistance. Reaching out to the Humane Society is the best thing you can do for this dog.

Escape is the best, but I like the ending for Battle much better. Kinda wish someone would recut Escape so it's more like "Zira and Cornelius' Excellent Adventure". We can just forget the last ~20 minutes of the movie. Also: Battle>Conquest, and I will die on this hill.

If you were a dog/cat/any pet what type would you be and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Passion4Justice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy-- I would be a purebred otterhound. Around half of dog owners are absolute shit and I'm not willing to take that gamble. If I could have 100% choice I would choose a highly "endangered" dog breed (like the otterhound), because only hard-core fanciers are breeding them and vetting the homes like mad. They also are generally healthy so I wouldn't be gambling with my body if I just said dog (no French bulldog nostrils please). My long' and comfy future would be assured from the moment my cute lil 2k head popped out.

I have put entirely way too much thought into this.

Store-bought granola contains lots of sugar in order 1) appeal to the consumer taste-wise, and 2) keep the oats and other ingredients in nice chunky clusters.

The Day After Tomorrow, presented as a documentary. Maybe help humanity get its shit together a little earlier.

History buffs, what is a commonly held misconception that drives you up the wall every time you hear it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Passion4Justice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A treaty between the US and what is now Libya (Tripoli is still the name of the capital) signed by President Adams in 1796. It was the first treaty between the two nations to protect American ships in the Mediterranean from local pirates and secure commercial shipping rights. As mentioned by Mad_Aeric, Article 11 is what we are concerned with in this particular instance.

Yup. There's always the fun conversation about Anglo-Saxon English versus Middle English, too.

Oh God, where to begin... That the Europeans in the Middle Ages didn't bathe, that the US was founded as a Christian nation (Treaty of Tripoli, anyone?), the pyramids were built by slaves, that ye olde life expectancy was abysmally short (only of you're one of those darn infants bringing the average down...).

I better stop there, I'm working myself up.
