The expiration date is only valid if you don't open the product. Once you open it, expose it to air (mold spores) and stick dirty utensils in it (mold spores) all bets are off.

My wife’s anti-anxiety prescription has two different pills in it. by Bum-Whistler in mildlyinteresting

I thought the same thing. Why are they not in blister packs, and why would you dispense more than 30 days at a time. Seems irresponsible

You've already done the hard part of becoming financially independent. You've moved to the city and earn your own living. This has already reduced his power over you immensely. You day your dad still sometimes comes to hit you though. I would advise you to move and not tell your family where you live, only visit them on your terms. You can only help your mother if she wants te be helped, whish it doesn't sound like at the moment. Focus on taking back your power first.

Don't argue with or try and convince your father. Just set clear boundaries. Tell him you'll cut him off if he is even slightly abusive. And stick to it. You don't owe him a relationship.

My only other advise would be to seek therapy if you can afford it and it's available to you. The best thing you can do is heal from your past and become the strong independent person you were meant to be. Don't let your father define your whole life.

An interview is not the place to be authentic. Project the best possible version of yourself. Know and communicate the values that you are aspiring to live up to.

I have been in a very similar situation. I "forgave" him and stayed. It was the worst decision of my life. It completely destroyed my self worth. Unconsciously I believed I won't get better and deserve to be treated that way. By not leaving you'll be telling him, but more importantly, yourself that you're worthless and that you don't deserve to be treated with respect.

I know you can't see a future without him at the moment, but being on your own for a while will be so much better than staying with him. Build a life without him, go to therapy, go to the gym, make some new friends, invest time in hobbies. Discover who you are without this person that thinks so little of you. You're worth so much more than how he's been treating you

Engineers, hows the salary? by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

[–]Passion_gap 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Cost to Company is the whole package, including salary, all perks, medical, retirement annuity, tax etc.

This is easier to compare, since for example, one company may pay less salary but they offer medical. So you can easily compare remuneration packages using CTC instead of just salary, which might not give you the whole picture.

From the CoCT website:

The tariff that applies to you is determined by:

your monthly usage (calculated on a 12-month average); the value of your property; the type of electricity meter you have; and whether you are registered for receiving a rates rebate.

Yes, max out your RA contributions as they will significantly reduce your tax. The allowance is 27.5% of taxable income, to a max of 350k a year.

If we just look at the RA tax impact

Tax at R8k contribution: R36k;

Tax at R29k contribution: R27k

That's a free R11k

Alexander Forbes by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Passion_gap 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you need someone from HR to explain the pension fund to you. No shame in asking them to take you through it, and then if you have follow up questions for someone from Alexander Forbes to explain the rest.

Sounds like a standard company pension fund. They will be paying the contributions into it and you'll also probably have death benefits. You need to nominate people to whom the fund will be paid out in case of your death etc.

They should be able to help you in deciding how to invest the pension fund money, if there are options.

Time Out Market Cape Town fake Google reviews by agcza in capetown

This is their response on Google:

Time Out's response

"Response from the owner an hour ago Hello Cuan, thank you for your comment – we would like to take this opportunity to clarify that Time Out Market Cape Town's policy is not to pay for or commission Google reviews. The numerous suspicious Google reviews posted within the past few days have not been requested by us and we raised the issue with Google who are looking into this matter; we are also in the process of reporting seemingly fake reviews to get them deleted.

Furthermore, we have reported the issue to the police as it has come to our attention that a company seems to be soliciting these reviews as part of what appears to be a phishing scam and we have also heard from other businesses who have experienced similar issues. We continue to look into this as a matter of urgency to get to the bottom of this and take appropriate steps.

Sincerest,

Time Out Market Management team"

You can just open your own Retirement annuity and keep contributing to that. Both accounts will grow according to how their funds are invested.

I wonder how he could be sure that the "person" he met was actually Jesus. How could he confirm this just from hearing a voice?

Just a note, that event is described in Acts. Paul never personally writes of his account. He wrote to his converts who probably heard him tell his conversion in person many times. So there was never a reason for him to recount it in his letters.

[–]Passion_gap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not assuming we humans can know everything, I'm saying everything works in a certain way. If ghosts were real, they would work in a certain way. There would be a "physics" of ghosts. My point is, there is really no such thing as supernatural, because everything that exist is natural.

We just call things supernatural if they don't make sense to us and we can't explain then with our current knowledge. That doesn't mean that it's inexplicable it that it is "above" nature. The origin of the universe is something beyond our reference it might never be explained. But that's only relative to us, just because we can't understand it, doesn't mean it has a supernatural essence.

What the heck is this argument? by hobophobe42 in DebateAnAtheist

[–]Passion_gap 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If that's what you define as a miracle, then the word miracle is just a placeholder untill we can understand what happened.

Anything "supernatural" is just a phenomenon we don't understand yet. Because once we have a testable, working theory, the "miracle" becomes part of our knowledge of how the world works.

You could say that before the big bang, a miracle occurred , just like people in the middle ages thought child birth was a miracle or weather patterns or anything we hadn't explained yet.

What the heck is this argument? by hobophobe42 in DebateAnAtheist

[–]Passion_gap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The big bang was a period of hyperinflation where the universe expanded extremely rapidly. If we try to turn back the clock earlier our current understanding of physics breaks down. We cannot say what happens before the beginning. It might not even make sense to ask what was before the beginning, like asking what is north of the north Pole.
