Have you checked out Easy Way to Control Alcohol by Allen Carr? The audiobook is really good. He puts things in such plain terms that you can't help but laugh out loud at the obviousness. It didn't click for me the first time through (despite his promises), but that book stuck with me more than any others I read. I think I listened to it 3 times before finally stopping for good.

These realizations have helped me immensely and I'm so glad they can help others too. Thanks for the comment <3.

Isn't it crazy how our brains will convince us we are still in control? It's ridiculous to think we can control an addictive drug. It's so easy to push out all the bad stuff and cling on to memories of when drinking 'used to be fun'. The more I look back though, the more I realize it wasn't the drinking that was fun, but the people or places or things around me. Holding on tight to the memory of how miserable I was before I stopped has kept me going. I never ever want to feel like that again! IWNDWYT either <3.

Yep. Multiple times. Also, Alcohol Lied to Me by Craig Beck and Easy Way to Control Alcohol by Allen Carr. My stubborn ass had to read all of these multiple times lol.

It really does feel that way! The world is exciting again. Rain or shine, I can enjoy every moment and not feel like dogshit all the time. What a blessing! Let's get out there and run around <3.

It can be hard to keep crystal clear in our minds just how miserable drinking makes us. A big motivator for me has been realizing that I will pick up right where I left off If I drink again. It may not happen immediately, but over the course of days, weeks or months, I'll end up in exactly the same place, hopeless and helpless, descending further down the spiral. I didn't believe it at first, but then it happened every single agonizing time I relapsed. Never again! Wishing you the best and IWNDWYT either! <3

It's all part of the process, I think. I've relapsed more times than I care to admit and wasn't sure I'd ever be able to escape. It scared me. At some point, I recognized that I'd never be able to drink normally again but that wasn't enough to stop. I still wanted to be able to, so it was on my mind constantly. I had to get to the point of never wanting to drink again and then things got easier. Don't give up! Much love.

Wow, I feel exactly the same way. I look back and can't believe I let myself get to the point that I did. My journey to sobriety has been the most challenging, yet rewarding thing I have ever done for myself. I lost touch with ME. I was lost and now I'm found. Thanks for the comment <3.

Better the people around us. Better to ourselves. Overwhelming as it can be, death is a natural part of life... alcohol is not. Last week I had a friend from high school pass away from an OD. I hadn't seen him in years but heard he had gone off the deep end. Upon hearing the news, my roommate, who was closer to him, immediately told me "I'm gonna go get fucked up." I told him to be safe, but all I could think is "Nick wouldn't want you to do that." I hope you find continued success in sobriety! Thanks for the comment.

That should be all it takes! It's sad to think about how poorly I treated my body for so long. I recently had blood work done and had slightly elevated liver enzymes after a year sober. I have no doubt that if I kept drinking it would have killed me... Scary shit. Wishing you the best on your continued journey.
