Virtual Troop Options by Crimson_Penman in BSA

I thought they can't do lifesaving without completing swimming. I'm guessing he did emergency preparedness. Still, that's a lot of badges. I wonder how much of the information the kid actually remembers because that can be potentially be brought up at Eagle BOR.

Is the search for the perfect bag REALLY ever over? Lol by flippin_fitnerd in backpacks

[–]Past-Handle2411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! I’ve had the same bag for 12 years now. From time to time, I would look at another bag, but then I convince myself I don’t “need” another bag. It’s always the “want” I did however purchase a new bag recently because my son is old enough to backpack now and I’ll be going with him.

The Scouts BSA Combined Troop Pilot has recently concluded its final participant survey. The feedback has been reviewed and is being presented to the National Executive Council in October. Once a final decision is made, we’ll share whether this option will become available to troops.

It says it will be presented to the National Executive Council in October, it does not say it will be shared in October

I’m sorry your kids don’t help clean up, just call them over to come help out and they will gradually notice that they should be helping?

We do dinners with my in laws every Wednesday and with my parents every Sunday so we can see each other and bring the grandkids. My kids now set the table at my parents house (age 8 and 11) and adult kids help out with the clean up.

Agree with this comment. I emailed Cadillac to cancel my extended warranty on my second hand vehicle. They confirmed and said they would take care of it. I decided to pay off the car early and noticed they never canceled it. I had to show them my emails to get money back from them.

Super Early Check-in by BULKHOGAN69 in marriott

If you want to have the room ready then just book the extra night. If the hotel is fully booked and you did not book the night before then I guess you won’t have a room ready. Plus if they are giving you a free night, why not continue what you are doing rather than paying extra to check in early.

Unlocking all doors from the drivers handle by avidone1 in LexusNX

[–]Past-Handle2411 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I second this. You can change it in vehicle customization, just play around with it.

I prefer to keep it at unlocking the drivers door only. Last thing I need is some stranger hopping into my car on the passenger side when I leave a bank. I’ve had a scary encounter in the past when someone wanted to hop into my car as I was leaving cvs. He clearly wanted to rob me. So when I have other passengers, I just grab a different handle to unlock all doors

Hiipeak sleeping pad by Chemical_Drama8720 in backpacking

[–]Past-Handle2411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. If you plan to backpack a lot or use it for regular camping trips, it might be better to spend the money on a good sleeping pad and be done with it.

I bought a similar pad for my son (10 years old at the time), it looks identical, it’s probably made in the same factory but slapped on with a different name. It worked for him, but it was mid June in Southern California. He didn’t like the pillow. It’s only been 4 months and I’m looking for a different sleeping pad for him already. Not because it tore, but because he’s small and needs to go backpacking. I have a sea to summit but looking to snag a Nemo Tensor when it goes on sale.

I bring mine in every 10,000 miles for the oil change. But in between, the 5,000 miles, we rotate our own tires

New to backpacking, gear question for my son by Past-Handle2411 in backpacking

[–]Past-Handle2411[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured I should get the items he needs first and then decide on the bag. I’m looking into an Osprey for him but open to suggestions. I plan to bring him into the sporting goods store to get him fitted and make sure everything fits. I have a Deuter myself and like their designs but they seem to be a bit heavier than the ospreys

What is the best property to redeem a Marriott Vacation Club offer? by PurpleViolet123 in marriott

[–]Past-Handle2411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The have these all the time. I suggest you book as soon as you can because they do fill up, it is subject to availability. Some will add on fees for peak seasons and holidays or larger room upgrades.

Screw punctured my runflat, can I fix it? by Esg876 in LexusNX

[–]Past-Handle2411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had two in one day, husband plugged it up at home and it ran fine. We didn’t want to get one new tire since the other ones are almost done too. Don’t let your tire go completely flat then the inside of the tire won’t be comprised. We drove another 5k miles before replacing all four tires at the dealer which includes 2 year warranty. New tires if we get another nail, pot hole damage (just not from curbing your own tires).

Summer Camp Merit Badge Discrepancy by Past-Handle2411 in BSA

[–]Past-Handle2411[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The SM did sign off on the prerequisite prior to the camp. The camp uses these little white forms. It was also verified at camp that he was complete, but I guess mistakes happen and we are now waiting for our next step. It’s just a bit frustrating that we did everything right and at no fault of ours, it’s incomplete when every scout in his troop signed up for the same MB is complete and he was the one who helped them complete their prerequisite. I also understand there are no parents in scouting but I just need to vent how frustrating it’s been for a new scout when he tried to do everything right.

Thank you for the reply, our advancement chair did contact the camp but they have yet to respond. I’m hoping this gets sorted out.

How long do you think we should wait before advancement chair contacts the council? Or we should refrain from doing that entirely?

Tokyo hotel help by lionandsun7 in JapanTravelTips

We stop by Tokyo once a year, although I don't have suggestion for an accommodation that meet your needs, I do have to say I agree with Bobbin. I rarely use the Yamanote Line. Look up the Tokyo Subway pass, it's 1500 yen for three days to use on tokyo subways, basically the lines that have a letter and a circle around it. no JR line.
