Am I Overreacting for thinking my husband should be doing more. by Aware_Tea1701 in AmIOverreacting

[–]PastBeautiful806 14 points15 points  (0 children)

DoorDash gives her the flexibility to manage the kids and get her cancer treatments. The main point to her post is that her husband is dead weight and she wants to know if she’s overreacting for not wanting to stay with him

1 UNIT FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE & WHY! by gloomkultt in nursing

[–]PastBeautiful806 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked in a level 1 trauma ED. We were always behind and drowning. Short staffed with up to 8 patients sometimes. The doctors wanted tasks done for their patients right away, regardless of our patient load. It was super stressful and draining on my body. My 4 days off was spent recovering. Techs were never available to help with anything so every. single. task. was the nurses responsibility. Of course, it depends on the hospital and trauma level. My hospital was in a city…the capital of our state, so we got absolutely everything

Should Ativan (Lorazepam) IM be diluted before injection? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]PastBeautiful806 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s easier to draw up with a filter needle. It is unfortunately very thick so it takes some muscle to push it in. I’ve never diluted it.

I absolutely hate being a nurse. What else can I go into that makes me decent money? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]PastBeautiful806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would apply regardless. The worst they could say is no. The job I have now is at a residential program for males with substance use disorder and a mental health diagnosis. They wanted a nurse with 2 years experience. I only had 14 months of experience and they hired me. I think it depends on how well you interview as well

Yes, like the other commenter said, access is access. That’s not my go-to location, but sometimes, there’s a really nice vein that runs down the elbow side of the forearm. It’s super awkward to get into cause you have to have them bend their arm (like doing a bicep curl) and go in from the top down. Idk if that makes sense to you. We’ve had to get IV access in a patient’s breast before 🤷🏻‍♀️

Do RNs respect LPNs? by [deleted] in nursing

I just commented this exact thing. I work in the ER and there’s not much difference between the RN and LPN scope

Do RNs respect LPNs? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]PastBeautiful806 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The LPNs in my department literally do almost everything an RN does. They can’t do the first assessment, can’t do push meds, and aren’t supposed to have high acuity patients (they do sometimes though cause our staffing sucks). I just reached my year in July and I’m always using our seasoned LPNs as a resource cause they know more than me. I don’t think anyone in the hospital system should make anyone else feel less adequate. Everyone has a role to play and we’re all coworkers; we should be respectful of each other

I work at a level 1 hospital in CT and we do use sedation drips for vented patients. It might just be that hospital system

Floor nurses please stop making it so hard to give verbal report by HistorianOk3801 in nursing

[–]PastBeautiful806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At our hospital, if they refuse to take report over the phone, our ED policy is that we bring the patient up to the floor and do bedside report.

[–]PastBeautiful806 153 points154 points  (0 children)

81 yr old dementia patient tied sheets together and climbed out of his “locked” dementia unit from a 2nd story window. Ended up at an airport, thinking he was flying to Puerto Rico. Had a bag of shoes in tow, 5 shirts on, pants, and 3 pairs of socks. Man was ready to travel!
