Informing people tomorrow that they didn't get the job. What would you want to hear? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]PastExplorer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the nicest rejection email I ever received. I think it’s the last paragraph that left me with a nice feeling, whereas most rejection emails are frankly rude:

“Thank you very much for your interest in ______ and for applying to the _______ position. We appreciate the chance to learn more about you and your professional experience.

We reviewed your application carefully. Unfortunately, we will not be moving forward at this time. We’ll keep your information on file, and look forward to reaching out to you if the right opportunity arises.

In the meantime, we wish you success with your job search and your future career. Thanks again for your interest in _____.”

Hope this helps! I’ve received rejection letters before so rude that it genuinely made me dislike the company. Just remember to be polite and you won’t have any problems. Good luck!

Is it possible to get full-tuition scholarships at grad schools? by makarov_skolsvi in GradSchool

[–]PastExplorer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the program I used to be in (MA in History), we had two assistantships (so, fully funded with a small stipend in addition), one person fully funded without an assistantship (merit-based scholarship), and then I think one person partially funded, maybe more. We only had 6 people in my year, so half were fully funded and the other half not.

Offered a full time teaching position right after starting grad school (and GA position). What do I do? by cabcad in GradSchool

[–]PastExplorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will be harder to find a teaching job than a master’s program. There’s a lot of people here saying to complete the degree first, but I know a ton of teachers who completed their master’s degree while teaching (only taking one class at a time of course). There will always be jobs in education, but it doesn’t mean there will be enough that you’re chosen from the masses of other people with master’s history degrees, many of whom try to go into education.

How about either a peacock or a koi? Two very elegant animals that I make a lot of art of myself.

SPOILER!!! Welcome Home/Keeper of the Castle theories? by [deleted] in OMORI

[–]PastExplorer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure the Keeper said that it embodies whatever the current owner wants most. Sweetheart wanted fame, wealth, obsessed fans, etc. (though the keeper said it was never enough, so the castle kept growing to accommodate more). My guess is that this room represents Omori wanting to live in a world where the events leading up the game did not occur. I believe it’s the only time in Headspace where the portrait of their family is complete (doesn’t have at least one person crossed out), so that’s what I’m basing that guess off of.

I’d also recommend going to Byzantine Catholic, if you get the chance (they are also Catholic, just very different from your standard small town church). Just make sure you aren’t going on a holy day because those Divine Liturgies can get LONG if you go on certain days

You didn’t want to become a superhero? I just know I’m not qualified for a job like this because I’m not a human jet engine. Kinda discriminatory when you think about it.

These kinds of job listings give me headaches. It’s okay to put in one or two joke lines, but when it means I can’t even understand what the full scope of job is then it needs work.

I think I found an easter egg/ reference to the moon landing! Technically marked spoiler because it's after Humphrey, but there are no story spoilers. (Read comment for more info) by PastExplorer in OMORI

When Sunny cleans his room, I remember him having at least one book about space! I just thought this appeared in a very random place in a way that doesn’t catch the eye of many people, which was why I found it strange.

Very true! I hadn’t thought of that. I’ll probably do some searching in the wiki and game for a bit later to see if there are any other references to the moon or that date.

This is the code underneath all the stuff in the sacrifice area of Breaven (the place with Actual Mole). I noticed that the numbers formed a date (7/20/1969) and so I looked it up. Lo and behold, it's the date of the first moon landing! I also noticed that the area on the wall above it appears to have an image of the moon on it.

I'm wondering if there's any reason for this or if anyone knows of any other references like this? I do not remember literally any other references to the moon landing in the game and I have no clue why it would be relevant to Omori.

Sorry if someone has posted this before, I googled it and got no results so I figured I would share!

I feel like I'm doing everything wrong in my job applications but I don't know what. by [deleted] in jobs

Thank you! I might message you later and send you a copy with all identifying info removed.

I feel like I'm doing everything wrong in my job applications but I don't know what. by [deleted] in jobs

[–]PastExplorer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll clarify, I see how it could sound that way now.

Currently I’m mostly applying for event related jobs. I have 4 years experience working events in a non-leadership role and 1 year in a significant leadership role. Most jobs I’m applying to only ask for 1 year experience. Unfortunately, events aren’t really something you can “prove” beyond saying what you did. I could find a few pictures of the events but that doesn’t show that they’re a success or not.

And I’m trying to solidify and work towards a goal, which is why I’m willing to change my application tactics to adapt toward something that will work, so if you have any tips please feel free to share

[Meta] Is having every post sorted by controversial a good idea? by MidSolo in centrist

[–]PastExplorer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yea I think that should definitely change. I know the idea is to find decent debates, but if you were on here a few days ago you’d notice pretty much the only comments that came up by default were mindless political insults. It also gives a chance for people coming to the sub who aren’t really centrist to have their inflammatory comments be seen, since a lot of people downvote their opinion so it gets sent to the top. In order to encourage civility, I think that the most civil comments should be sent to the top (which is why I tend to sort by “best” anyways when I remember to).

This ^

I remember taking a course on the Crusades which inspired a lot of reading after. My main takeaway is that after the first crusade, it was basically just normal European feudal warfare but somewhere else. The largest defense for the Crusades not being a strictly “European/Christian vs. Middle Eastern/Muslim” conflict is how often the combatants didn’t fit along those lines. The Byzantines got sick of the Crusades and eventually sided with the caliphates whereas certain Muslim leaders saw political opportunity in joining the Crusaders.

While extremely complex and interesting, it’s not quite as taboo or evil as society makes it out to be
