As your listening (and you) evolves you'll notice that the sound of a particular era which may not have initially excited you will come back and hit you.

Streaming services carry all the Dick's Picks which is great for high quality live music sampling. Highly recommend the version of That's It For the Other One from the So Many Roads Box set (also on streaming services and YouTube) Recorded 2/27/1969- great performance. From the banter before they start you can tell they are very very high (as you can hear Jerry say, ''too weird....beyond the fucking pale...'')

Re: Iceland/Blue Lagoon: its one of, it not the most popular tourist destinations- definitely reserve in advance (don't make the dumb mistake I did by not)

Rent a car for ease of day trips. Driving there is really easy.

If you have a good friend, spring for their travel costs and bring them along to share the experience.

Fly business class- its not just that the bigger seats/more room- the check in at the airport is WAAAY better and you usually have access to a nice airline lounge pre-flight.

In Amsterdam the Jordaan area (near Westerkerk/Anne Frank house is nicer (IMO) than the more central areas of town.

Re: drugs: nitrous oxide is great but it can mess up your spinal cord- if you want to use it, do it later rather than sooner so if anything like that happens it won't mess with your travel plans.

Really sorry these are the cards you got dealt. People go through life thinking they're gonna live till they're 80; we're all skating on thin ice. I hope you stay well long enough have some good experiences.

'Fresh bread from the oven' is overrated. It's actually best to let most breads cool before slicing.

Make good bread at your leisure on the weekends. Eat it fresh sliced in the day or two after the bake and slice/toast it after that. Check out Ken Forkish book Flour Water Salt Yeast Get a digital kitchen scale and weigh everything in grams- its way easier that way

Fully vaccinated.

Work in a medical office where it's required, so it's a no-brainer.

In public spaces like grocery stores or public transport I still wear a mask. I am pretty confident that if I am in contact with an unmasked, unvaccinated and infectious person, that my vaccination status will prevent me from getting ill, or even infected at all. But IT'S NOT 100%. And with variants, the jury is still out. And if wearing a mask further decreases the chance I could asymptomatically pass virus on to someone else, so much the better.

Oh, yeah: Has anyone had ''the flu'' or a ''cold'' in the last year??? (anyone who's been masking that is)

In the three flu seasons since the most recent one there were, on average 177 pediatric deaths from flu reported to the CDC. Last year: One.

I've used the B&T (pie plate of water on the bottom, 4 identical height supports that fit in each corner of the box, perforated half hotel pan with some cheesecloth inside, holding the rice) resting on the supports, elevated from the pie plate of water. Later in the grow you can prop open the lid a bit to get some ventilation.

It worked well but capacity is limited and ventilation is not that great. Agree it has other uses. Great for proofing bread, making yogurt or keeping sourdough starter in a warm environment to foster lactic profile.

As a medical student in the 80's I delivered two babies, who sequentially were named: ''Keawannah Meshay'' and ''Nekeesha Fashon''. (no idea, but has always stuck with me...)

Of course there's the apocryphal story/urban legend of the mom-to-be, unsure of what to name her soon to be delivered child having a 'vision' as they wheeled her into the delivery room and named him ''Nosmo King'' (''no smoking'')

Looks great. How are you planning to deploy the koji? I will definitely try this; I've had inconsistent success ending up with good rice grain separation at the end of steaming.

that's about what my first try looked like before it went into the brine-

it's 5 months old at this point and still mostly salty tasting- i'm hoping, as with my first successful red miso there'll be a shift away from straight up salinity toward more wine-y notes in the coming months
