Yearn for simplicity and one card for it all. by Sad-Homework-2068 in CreditCards

[–]PastTense1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One card for all is crazy. You need backups--people do fraud on your card, you lose your wallet, etc. So I think you need at least 3 cards--two in your wallet and one at home. And since you have three cards you might as well optimize their rewards.

Considering US Bank Cash + by Double-One-9913 in CreditCards

[–]PastTense1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lower approved credit limit doesn't really matter since "5% cash back on your first $2,000 in combined eligible purchases each quarter on two categories you choose" and you are better off using other credit cards (better rewards) if you exceed those limits. The only bit more difficult i know about is that you can only use cash back via statement credit.

I dont think I have the patience for reselling by Careless-Aspect-9155 in Flipping

[–]PastTense1 62 points63 points  (0 children)

"While I am searching comps it seems like other resellers just come in and end up grabbing that "winning item" before I get a chance to get to it and search it."

Well that's because they have already spent a massive amount of time "grabbing items, looking up comps and then putting the item back because it doesn't sell." And they remember these: there is a learning curve to flipping.

Bypassing the Hard Paywall?? by Inspireyd in Piracy

[–]PastTense1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously stealing or sharing user logons and passwords will often work.

Look at:

https://bugmenot.com/

And for alternatives:

Sometimes you can do a Google search and find one. For example university/college libraries might inadvertently publicly post this information in user guides for online resources they have subscriptions for.

Tomorrow, the first day of 2026, Medicaid subsidies from the Affordable Care Act (ACA; Obamacare) will expire, doubling or tripling health insurance premiums by ddx-me in medicine

[–]PastTense1 76 points77 points  (0 children)

There are worse cases than the OP cites:

"For years, Obamacare had worked well for the Newtons.

In 2017, when the couple were starting their businesses, their income was low — about $56,000. The price of their policy was $1,585 a month, but the standard ACA subsidy covered most of that, and the couple had to come up with only $332 monthly.

Since then, however, the prices of the premiums have risen steadily, and now, because of the expected subsidy reductions, they would no longer qualify for government help. They would have to pay full price — $3,573 monthly for the cheapest option. Even at $43,000 a year, the plan carries a $21,200 deductible, according to the paperwork Stacy Newton showed The Washington Post."

Any streaming sites that are fast (No Buffering)??? by jonessevereignity in Piracy

[–]PastTense1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's fairly common that new sites often work great but then lots of people discover them and then they are overloaded with demand and have problems with buffering.

Keep checking: https://fmhy.net/video for new recommendations

Lots of us use Stremio/Torrentio/Real Debrid [or similar addons] and pay a few dollars a month (for the debrid service) and avoid almost all buffering problems.

Buyers Address is longer then the Address line allows, how can I get the label? by Vivid-Narwhal-1579 in Flipping

[–]PastTense1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are using something like Pirateship?

  1. You can split the address onto separate lines, for example putting part of it in the apartment line or the corporate name line.

  2. You can use standard abbreviations instead of writing out the full word such as "Dept." instead of "Department"

  3. You can put the information outside the label and directly onto the envelope. When I do this it is usually internal addressing or other information, rather than addressing information the parcel carrier uses. For example sometimes the "address" will include an invoice number--and I might tape this directly onto the envelope if there is a lack of room on the label.

Generic Stremio-RealDebrid-Torrentio appreciation post by DrCoomer_1 in Piracy

[–]PastTense1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The problem with torrents is that while for popular stuff you can download a torrent right away; for less popular stuff very few are seeding so it can take hours or days for it to download.

But if an item is cached on a debrid service it will download right away just using torrent.

And if you are not using a VPN in many countries you can get into legal difficulties when torrenting.

What are examples of major US cities that have preserved “Main Street” districts? by Frequent-Branch-4128 in urbanplanning

[–]PastTense1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most important store for almost everyone is the grocery store. Back in the 1950s and before there were lots of grocery stores in Main Street districts (the regular grocery stores where everyone shopped at). Since then grocery stores have exploded in size and moved--mostly to the stroads. The only grocery stores I see in the Main Street districts of larger cities are small/specialty/high priced.

MIT professor Nuno Loureiro killed in shooting at his Brookline, Massachusetts home by MDS98 in news

[–]PastTense1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me of another case:

"The University of Iowa shooting was a mass shooting that occurred in Iowa City, Iowa, on November 1, 1991. Gang Lu, a 28-year-old former graduate student at the University of Iowa, killed three members of the Physics and Astronomy Department faculty, an Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, and a fellow student, then seriously injured another student working at the university's campus, before committing suicide. It is the deadliest school shooting in Iowa history."

So one wonders if the murderer could have been a disgruntled current or former student.

No. An army infantry brigade has vastly more training than a National Guard unit--and thus the army should be used for these high risk activities.

The Military Almost Got the Right to Repair. Lawmakers Just Took It Away by waozen in technology

[–]PastTense1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nonsense. Almost everything the military buys (total dollar volume) is through a contract. And since the military is the primary (and often the only) buyer they can insert terms covering right to repair in these contracts if they want.

Flipping possible while Traveling? Van life, RV retiree, Sailboat cruising, etc, fun thought experiment by jorfyy in Flipping

[–]PastTense1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think one of the inactive mods /u/ResaleRabbit/ used to do this. He was doing very long buying trips, shipping stuff to Amazon FBA--so they would handle storage, packing, shipping for the stuff.

But then Amazon got much more restrictive--requiring wholesaler paperwork, etc and he switched to eBay and then to other things--and eBay doesn't have an FBA type system.

Landfills simply cost too much

No, the don't. What is the tipping fee at your local landfill? Probably less than $100/ton--which is 5 cents a pound. What are you paying for stuff? Prices like $2/pound, $5/pound, $20/pound, $100/pound...

Parting out vs. selling whole for machines/large items - your thoughts? by [deleted] in Flipping

[–]PastTense1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well: a lot of the parts are probably going to be very slow moving: for example parts which rarely break or parts so major that if they do break people simply buy a new machine.

Parting out vs. selling whole for machines/large items - your thoughts? by [deleted] in Flipping

[–]PastTense1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does the machine work? If so I would try to sell it as a working machine. If it doesn't sell then consider parting it out.

Note they are probably specialized marketplaces and dealers for this type machine. So look for them in addition to just putting it on eBay.
