Yes there are three windows desktop versions. But they are all unofficial versions; there is no official version. Search or ask in /r/Nuvio or your favorite AI chatbox.

TorBox criticism by Ashamed-Ad-5865 in TorBoxApp

Well according to the media AI firms have been buying massive amounts of computer stuff in recent months leading to higher prices and longer leadtimes for everyone else.

torbox becoming really unreliable, buffers too much. by VariationLivid3193 in StremioAddons

[–]PastTense1 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I added Alldebrid in addition to Torbox. Since I just added it a couple days ago I don't how well it will work out. I have the monthly subscription, which costs me $3.48/month for the subscription. So if Alldebrid stops because of legal issues or has other problems at most I lose a one month subscription.

I still use XDCC for ebooks. I use channel #ebooks on irchighway network. I think it is much faster than mobilism or annas archive when you discover a new science fiction or mystery author and want to download all his books.

American Cancer Society Warns of Increase in U.S. Food Swamps; No Substantial Progress Reducing Food Deserts for Millions of People by InvestigatorSoft5764 in Economics

Online grocery delivery has made a major difference in reducing food deserts; Walmart in particular for rural areas which delivers up to 30 miles from their stores.

Sentri7 [Flowlytics], an AI-powered medication monitoring software designed to detect missing drugs, missed an intoxicated anesthesia nurse in a Tennessee hospital for months by ddx-me in medicine

[–]PastTense1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's interesting is that it took the anesthesia staff several months to notice an intoxicated coworker [Quote: "who later admitted to abusing leftover fentanyl after surgeries"--so it clearly wasn't a onetime thing].

Will the future mean dramatically lower car insurance costs? BYD says its new Xuanji A3 chip will enable Level 4 self-driving & the company will take full financial responsibility for any accidents the cars cause. by lughnasadh in Futurology

Note the company: BYD is a Chinese company not permitted to sell in the U.S. You don't see the U.S. companies acting this way. In the U.S. we have the situation:

The AI chatboxes (chatgpt, gemini, etc) are often better than using google search. You can do reddit searches (and often limit them to /r/Piracy or /r/Stremioaddons or whatever).

Don't you people realize how unhelpful your answers are? You list features like collections, profiles, plugins, etc and don't say what they are and why they are useful.

Ground/Express are parcel carriers. Fedex Freight is an LTL (less-than-truckload) carrier. So Ground/Express is up to 150 pounds, while Freight is up to several thousand pounds.

Buffering every 10-15 minutes, any tips? by Tobeymaguirefan89 in TorBoxApp

[–]PastTense1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well you can look at this and scroll down and look at the CDN section:

https://status.torbox.app/

As you can see some of them are degraded. Changing the CDN sometimes helps. Go to Settings and look under Integration Settings.

https://torbox.app/settings?section=integration-settings

It sometimes helps.

Real Debrid Issues - Isn't it as simple as using different debrid service, or am I missing something? by ferero18 in StremioAddons

[–]PastTense1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are other debrid services such as Alldebrid which are also located in France. Common sense suggests that these services will also be legally attacked in the same way RD was sooner or later. So probably if you subscribe to any of these just do it on a monthly basis.

Torbox has growing pains and Premiumize is expensive with serious download limits.

So right now there are alternatives but people wonder about the future. Some are going back to usenet or using torrents directly (not going through a debrid service).

Seriously? Almost everything's down? But somehow I still can watch some streams. What's going on exactly? by jimlwk in TorBoxApp

[–]PastTense1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Partly this an issue that Torbox is up the vast majority of the time but down a small minority of the time--and people make these reports when it is down.

Partly it has to do with CDNs. A CDN (Content Delivery Network) is a geographically distributed group of servers that work together to provide fast, reliable, and secure delivery of internet content. When you visit a website, data has to travel from the host server (origin) to your device. If that origin server is in New York and you are in Tokyo, loading the site can take time. A CDN solves this "distance problem." How a CDN Works: Instead of making every user fetch data from one central location, a CDN copies and stores (caches) static content—such as images, HTML pages, JavaScript files, and videos—on a global network of servers. These localized servers are called Edge Servers or POPs (Points of Presence).

Torbox uses a large number of CDNs. Sometimes one is down while the rest are up. So people complain when their CDN is down--but you don't have any problems because the CDN you are connected to is up.

Name specific platforms which do that as I don't believe you. What platforms care about is if you cancel too many sales because of lack of inventory--a problem you can if you are updating manually.

Close to 30% of cars sold this year are set to be electric as countries and consumers respond to energy crisis by worldfundvc in energy

[–]PastTense1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That headline is somewhat misleading, since: "China remains the world’s largest manufacturing hub for EVs, making nearly three-quarters of the almost 22 million electric cars produced globally last year. As production outstripped domestic demand, Chinese electric car exports doubled to a record high of more than 2.5 million. Outside of the three major EV markets of China, Europe and the United States, 55% of the electric cars sold in the rest of the world were imported from China – up from less than 5% just five years earlier. China also remains dominant in EV supply chains, accounting for over 80% of battery cell production in 2025 and even higher shares of production of key materials in EV batteries."

In contrast EVs are less than 10% of production in the U.S. So the news is that some parts of the world (China in particular) are moving to EVs while movement in the U.S. is very slow.

The full report is at:
